All these while i thought there are seperate project templates available in VS2008 and VS2010 as i used to see them in VS2003. Now it is missing. I have also seen assemplies(System.Web.Mobile) available in .net framework for mobile based web controls. I googled, i did not find any convincing results :(.
Do i need to use the same Asp.net WebSite template for both desktop browsers and mobile browsers just by considering the screen layout?. that is i should detect if the request is from desktop browsers use one type of layout and other for mobile browsers. If my understanding is right? how do i test those web pages for different mobile models?
I have one website over at utopiapimp.com. The website is used for a popular web based game. Some company internets don't allow the website to be accessed so I opened up another domain at utopiashrimp.com. Same website but a different iss application. Both have same database backends. They also both sit on the same virtual machine. I put my brand new code on shrimp and solve bugs with that code. I host the solid code on pimp. So I can't just forward the shrimp domain to pimp because I need a test bed.
The problem is that they don't share the same application cache. So my question is, can two websites share the same application cache? I really need to figure this out. I would rather not create a webservice and or a handler that one website needs to hit to change the cache on the other application.
I'm not familiar with WPF but I've seen things I like about it for web development. I wonder which advantages has developing a WPFbrowser application over asp.net (webforms/MVC) and viceversa. are there things you can do or use in asp.net you can't do in a WPFbroser application?

The idea is to use the logged in user credentials for invoking the web service (This is critical since the web service use the authentication credentials to assign the owner of the created or updated record) and for executing the stored procedure.When I am using VS.Net integrated web server the result is just fine (May be because this server starts under current logged in user account) The SQL Server SP returns expected results (Even when I execute them from Query Analyzer) and web service credentials is set correctly to the current logged in user. However when I host the application in local IIS it's not working as expectedly. The Sql Server stored procedure returns EMPTY dataset and web service credentials is set to empty.I am using
myService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialsCache.DefaultCredentials
Bothe the web service host virtual directory and my application virtual directory is using Windows Authentication in Directory Security of IIS.
I have a bigger ASP.NET based webapplication, which is structured into subwebs (as described on [URL]How can I share user specific information (user credentials, other informations) between these subwebs? The point is that the subwebs have all their own virtual directories and therefore different sessions. Are there other possibilities besides cookies to have a shared (user/browser session based) memory?
View 1 RepliesI am thinking about setting up a new domain to host static content on my website and have it cookieless just like Stackoverflow with their static domain. So before going ahead and buying the domain and setting it up I wanted to test it on my developement machine first under localhost (I have to mention that i am planning on having IIS running on my new domain for the static files). I therefore created a new application under IIS and disabled session state and forms authentication. When my main application needs resources like css, images and js , I use the path to the "static" application where they are hosted.
The problem is that when I look at the request and the response for the requested files, they still have the session_id cookie defined as well as the asp.net authentication cookie. Is it at all possible to accomplish what i am trying to do on a development machine or do i have to just go ahead and purchase the new domain which hopefully with make things right? I tried to read about cookieless domain but can't figure out what i might be missing.
I never host any web application on the development server.I learn the tutorial how to copy the file using file zilla FTP client.But question is raised, how can I link my sql server machine to Http development server.And how can I configure my database on the development server.What at all DNS setting is require?
Finally All I need is , upload a web application and SQL server database on development server.

View 2 RepliesI got these errors while trying to run a web application using vs 2008, The first error is this: >Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. >process ID=0x1130 (4400), Thread ID=0xe6c (3692). And when I press OK a second dialog reports this error:>unable to connect to the asp.net development server. I reinstalled, repaired and re registered msdbg2.dll and edited hosts file but still get this error. I need to debug an application but I can't. This error is on a 'Win 2003 server enrterprise service pack 1' with a vs2008 team system installation. What can I do to remove this error and run and debug my application?

At the moment, a co-worker and I are tweaking CSS, which means constantly changing and saving CSS files and then refreshing the running page in a web browser.Every few saves, the application restarts, causing a considerable delay while we wait for the app to start up, log in again, and return to the page we were working on. In an IIS production environment a CSS file wouldn't go through the ASP.NET ISAPI, but apparently when running with VS2010 and the developent web server this doesn't matter... or something.

Multiple domains will point to the same application. I wish to use the following code (or something close) to detect the domain name and perform the customizations:

I would like to test the functionality of the above using the ASP.NET development server. I created mappings in the local HOSTS file to map [URL] to 127.0.0.1, and [URL] to 127.0.0.1. I then browse to the application with the browser using [URL] (etc).
When I try to test this code using the ASP.net development server the [URL] always says localhost. It does NOT capture the host entered in the browser, only localhost.
Is there a way to test the URL detection functionality using the development server?
We have a largely asp.net web form team (With some Oracle developers thrown in).
Question 1:
Is it a good idea to start using asp.net MVC which will mean redevelopment of a number of standard controls for not much benefit.
Question 2:
Is it a good idea to hire developers where there most recent skills are with asp.net MVC?
I doubt there is any benefit adopting MVC now, given the 100+ applications in this suite of products, and the maintenance/rework this will cause. Given this, is there any particular reason to hire MVC developers, as they won't be hitting the ground running, which is what I need now.
