Jun 17, 2010i want my main index page to be a login page with a logo, n then redirect to my master page when authenticated.how do i accomplish this? isit possible?

So far so good, but now i want to create the logic to do the actual login. In a regular aspx page i'll do it in the cmdlogin click event, but as i'm in the masterpage, i'm not sure if i can do that. I actually tried to do it in the code behind of the masterpage, but it didn't work. What can do?? do i ahve to use the asp.net login control?

Jul 27, 2010I am trying to use two DropDownLists (Cities, Categories) in a PartialView that will be used in MasterPage, meaning they will be visble all the time.
I tried to load them in HomeCOntroller, but that didn't work. I got an Exception.
I read something about making a baseController that the other controllers will inherit from, I have tried that, kind of, but I guess i'm doing something wrong.

Two question:
Where and how to load the DropDownLists is the problem. I have tried to load it in the HomeController, but when go to another page then it says that the DDLs is empty and I get a Excecption. Why do I have to use two forms for the ActionMethod to trigger ?

Jan 14, 2010i am writing a login page in asp.net c# not using login control.i can create account and log in without problems as a user.the pages that require login has a separate master page.and i want to check if the user is logged in in masterpage page_preinit function but the problem is that child page event functions are called before masterpage's so i could experience a problem like session expire in child page before i get to check it in master page.is there anyway around this?

Accessing Session In MasterPage Load Event After A UrlRewrite
Jul 15, 2010Situation:In Web.Config we have CustomErrors turned on with redirectMode="ResponseRewrite".In Page_Load of our MasterPage we access the Session property of the Page.
Problem:When an Error occurs on any page the user gets redirected (via Rewrite) to our Error.aspx Page. There in the Page_Load of the MasterPage we access the Session and get an HttpException telling us to enable SessionState. But we have the SessionState enabled, definitly.
Question:How can we access the session after a UrlRewrite in the Page_Load Event of our MasterPage?

All of the following have been tried over and over again:
1.) Delete all existing .dlls
2.) Delete MasterPage File and recreate it.
3.) Delete MasterPage perform a clean rebuild then recreate
4.) Delete web.config file and recreate
5.) Delete web.config file perform a clean rebuild then recreate
6.) Destroy the entire project and start from scratch
7.) Before any of these steps were taken the project was built with Ctrl+Shift+B and again with F5
8.) Checked all of the namespaces to make sure nothing was conflicting
9.) Checked IIS7 to see which .NET Framework was being used and it is all listed under 2.0 and later at one point even trying to swithc it over to .NET 4.0
The problem is rather persistant, annoying, and frustrating and I would truly love to acquire some input on correcting this matter,issue occured out of the blue one minute working the next minute it errors out.

Nov 30, 2010I had a website project which worked fine. I have converted it into a web application project in VS 2010. Now when I start the project from VS my login page is never loaded because when it tries to load images, scripts, css all the requests are redirected back to login page.
However if I setup a website under my local IIS to use the folder where the project is the website works no problem.
I have created a test web app to play with. And it does pretty much the same. Login page cannot load an image because the request is redirected. Here is what I've got.

Setting Focus To Textbox In Login Control On Page Load?
Jun 15, 2010I am trying to set the focus to the user name TextBox which is inside an ASP.NET Login control.
I have tried to do this a couple of ways but none seem to be working. The page is loading but not going to the control.
Here is the code I've tried.

C# - Login And Authenticate Against The Email Address And Then Load The Correct Name In The User Object?
Mar 6, 2011I am using an email address as my "username" for Login. When a user logs in the User object that is created has the Email address as the name which is incorrect. The actual name is another field in the DB. How do I login and authenticate against the email address and then load the correct name in the User object?
I am using forms authentication with a custom MembershipProvider and RoleProvider.

I have a custom MembershipProvider that validates users by email address and password. It is called by the basic Login Control and registered in web.config.

Load Balancing Application - Connect (login) To Application The TPS Reaches Zero
Feb 24, 2011We have an ASP.NET application deployed on 2 Application servers with load balancer server. It is using INPROC state management. The ADO.NET connection pooling is enabled with 50 as minimum connections and 100 maximum connections.
In Load testing (using load testing tool) when the application reaches to 50 users no more users can connect (login) to application the TPS reaches zero. No errors are logged in application log related to application or database. The sessions are working fine.

Apr 12, 2010After reading a book I brought on ASP.net I fould the login controls to be very nice.I have set it up in my application so that customers can login using the standaard login controls and things were going smooth.But in my schema for my application I also have a table for customers (firstName, LastName, DOB, etc).And of course the customersID is used as a foreign key to tables such as Orders, Addresses (Home, Work, Postal).
The thing is how to i associate an asp.net login to a customer name in my table so that the CustomerID can be used through the application by knowing who is logged in.

I am getting endless loop when user logged in after some time page is displaying,
