I am creating a web app to basically allow the user to select multiple files, specifically pdfs that have already been created on a network path, and print whichever ones they want. Can someone point me to the best way to accomplish this? I have done a lot of searching, with no good results so far.

View 2 RepliesI am working with asp.net 2.0 project. I have a gridview in one of my forms which contains list of people who are late in payments. Now when I select an item in the grid and hit open it opens a letter to be sent to that person. The user can go and hit print in the letter form and the letter gets printed.
Now the user wants to select multiple items from the list and hit "print All" on the grid page and get all the letters printed silently for all the selected items in the grid.
I copied a routine to print gridview and modified it to print formview. The problem I have is there are two formviews. The second may be empty. When both formviews contain data the routine works fine. When the second formview is empty the routine prints only the first two lines of the first formview and stops.

What I have is a datagrid full on personel and their W-2 information for the yr. Currenlty i have a form on another asp page that I send the individuals to one click at a time to print ther W-2. Is there a way to send all the personnel to the form at once and print them all off instead of doing each one individually.

The gridview having paging also in it. How can I do this? I need serial number for each row for all the pages of the gridview in the print part.

The gridview can attimes have huge number of records.So when they save the file as a pdf, and the gridview cannot fit on 1 page...some rows of gridview are displayed on 1st page and then continued on next page no headings...So in order to allow all the text on one page and show the grid properly I have enabled paging on gridview. But now the problem is when they save the final page as pdf, they see just the first page of the grid.is there a way that user can save all the pages(gridview) in same file but separate pages or turning off pagination and displaying the grid on next page with heading repeat?

I have an application that uses resource files to display items in multiple languages. My app uses quote a lot of javascript and the alerts need to display in the local language. To do this, I have created an http handler which will read the keys and values of the culture-specific resource file and write them to a JSON array which is then embedded in the page in a script tag, the messages can then be accesses using, for exmaple:
Message.Error (en-GB = "Error", fr-FR = "Erreur")
The messages http handler works great in development, however when I run the application on a test server, I get the error: Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Resources.Alerts.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "App_GlobalResources.b0n9j90e" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. The code that I use to acccess the resource file is:

Where Resources.Alerts is the type that contains my multi-lingual definitions. The build action for the Alerts.resx file is set to "Embedded Resource". Any ideas why this works locally but not on my test server, am I missing something?
I would like to let user to select multiple records from a gridview and then click a print button to print a report (*.rdlc).
In the report, there will be a table to list the selected records row by row.

Using above code, I got succeeded in printing PDF file through command line. But it runs the Acrobat Reader and opens Save dialog box.
In my case, I want to suppress Save dialog box and save the file on other location using c# coding. I mean I want to save a PDF file behind the scene.

View 1 RepliesI've been asked to implement a security requirement that we instruct browsers not to cache sensitive data. This is all fine for the ASPX content using the standard instructions:

However when I set these headers for PDF downloads, IE8 won't show the PDF (haven't tried other IE versions yet, kinda moot, I need it working on all of them, even IEfreaking6). Seems to work in firefox 4 beta, but I haven't double checked that it's definitely not caching it. Here is the abridged version of the code I'm using to serve the PDFs:

I'm going to play-around a bit more, maybe forcing them to download as mimetype "application/octet-stream" might work, but that would stop the nice open PDF's in a new browser window from working. Has anyone had any success with preventing IE from caching PDFs from the server side and successfully displaying them?
Just to give a clear example about what happens. In one scenario user's can select a bunch of reports from a list, these are compiled into a PDF and the PDF is shown in a new browser window. With the caching enabled the browser window opens, but remains resolutely blank.

I am currently working on a project where I need to secure access to downloadable files. The solution I want to implement is to have two buttons next to each document. One that says Editable and the other read-only (depending on the users permission they will see one of these or both). The editable will work normally with the browser dialogue opening to say open / save the document. That is the easy part. The read-only button needs to open the document without caching anything (in temporary internet files) on the client's machine for security reasons or give the ability to save it to their local machine.
The best Idea I have for this is to convert the document to HTML on the fly and then redirect the user to this page. We can then turn caching off on the site so the HTML isn't cached (I know they can then right-click and save the HTML or copy the text,etc.. but that is deemed acceptable). Does anyone have an alternative solution than this (or have an easy way this can be achieved)? I don't want to install Office on the web server or pay heavily for a third-party tool like Aspose.

I have multiple PDFs coming from a report generator and I want to merge them to a single document. The merging process must run in a web site or WCF web service environment (Framework 4.0, IIS 7.5). Is there a component, open source or commercial, to accomplish this?In my process I get the PDFs as streams. If I have the choice, I would prefer a merging method, working directly on these streams - without file representations.
