View 2 RepliesI am trying to implement search in our various ASP.NET websites that are all located on a particular web server that we control. The server is running IIS7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 32bit. I do NOT want to go third-party by using Google/Bing/etc APIs. I want to have an in-house solution for JUST our website directories (and not worry about searching through other documents elsewhere).
I have looked at Search Server 2010 Express, but that won't work because it is 1) 64bit, and 2) too much overhead for the tiny bit of websites we are wanting to search on. There is a 2008 Express edition that is x86 compatible, but I still think its way too much to install and run for what we are wanting to use it for.
How can I put my own dlls on the web-site in the hosting assembly folder, if I hire an hosting space on some computers on the internet.
i.e : Using Plex, for Windows 7, Framework 3.5, ASP.NET.
Im trying to put a Asp.net web site online with ISS the web site is published but i dont know where to go from here.
View 2 RepliesI have never put a website online before so I want to know a few things.
I understand that you must buy a domain name like 'www.example.co.uk' to get to your site.
1) If I bought a domain name from www.123-reg.co.uk and used their hosting package, how would I get it online. I have already completed my website. Can I still put it on?
2) On their website, it says that you need to buy databases (I think) and add them to the hosting package? I have already got databases in use on my website. What does this mean?
3) Could you in brief sum up the steps of outting a website online.
I am trying to write a simple search form for our site. Here is my delima... I am trying to figure out that if there is nothing to search for in one textbox then search in the next textbox. The problem is that I dont know how to format my search string: For Example:

I want to use website search in my website. which one will be the best?
View 1 RepliesI created a website. I would like to include a search box that searches the whole website and returns the results.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to implement a search solution for my website and was wondering whether there are other good search solutions I can use apart from adding a Google search box
View 1 RepliesCode:
<div id="searchbox">
<form method="get" action="http://www.google.com/search">
<input type="text" name="q" size="15" maxlength="255" value="" />
<input type="hidden" name="sitesearch" value="ieee-sb.uwaterloo.ca/" />
<input type="submit" value="Search" />
</form>
</div>
I'm using this code to create a search bar that will search only on the website above. It works when I put it into a html file, but when I put it in the rightnav user control in the ASP.net application, it only refreshes the page.
i need acomponent to search in my web site easily like EasySearch or ultimate seatch
But all of them are trial
it is work in the localhost but not on the server
i had a situation in which i want to implement a search within my website, to search information of my wbsite only and giving the list of pages which contain the information requested for seach.
View 5 Repliesi m making website in asp.net and my website is not searchable buy search engine i use this in master page
<meta name="description" content="Trump Academy offers various Courses in Aviation,Ground Staff,Travel and Tourism & Hospitality"/>
I want to create a seach box as used in this website for searching topics and other information for my asp.net website.
How may I implement this.
I do not want to use google custom search.
This is the second time I've searched on this and came up not fully understanding why this isn't possible. Say you have one text box, but you want to be able for a user to search by "company name," "job number," or "Order No," So you put one text box and a drop down list where the user can select what field to search.
Here is what I would like to do Select [order_no], [job_no], [company_name] From [order_tbl] WHERE @var1 Like '*@var2*' (maybe not totally correct syntax, but you get the picture....and @var1 is set from the selection of the dropdownlist and @var2 is set from the text box).
What I do now is three separate SQL statements. If DropDownlist1.SelectedValue = 1 then do, if it = 2 then do, etc.
But when you have a large select statement with table joins, you have to make any changes three times, and it seems easy to make a mistake...not to mention if you have more than three choices, you have an SQL statement for each choice.
Am I misunderstanding that it isn't possible to do a variable field name so I can have one select statement to work with? And if it isn't possible, I just wish I could wrap my head around why, because it seems such a simple thing to do.
The website I am working on has a section where users can search for content they have digitally subscribed to. way to cross-check both data sets, the first being content that matches the search criteria, the second being the content the user has subscribed to. What's making this is a mess is how the data is structured. Here is an example...
We store all of our content in a "Content" table in our database. A piece of content, a "journal", for example, and all of its child records (volumes, issues, and articles) are all stored as records in the "Content" table, each with a ParentId of its corresponding parent record. So, A journal can have n volumes. Each volume can have n issues. Each issue can have n articles. A user can have a subscription to any of these, which would implicitly give them access to all child records. For example, if a user was subscribed to a journal, they would have access to all of its volumes, issues, and articles. If the user was subscribed to an issue, they would have access to all of its articles, but not the parent volume or journal.
Some users own over 30,000 records, and we have over 100,000 content records in the database. The Content table has relationships with several other tables that are used for the search. This leaves me with an expensive query to find what the user has access to, and another expensive query to search through all of the records to find search criteria matches. Some of our searches take 20-30 seconds and I would like to speed it up to a max of 5sec per search.
I tried running a query to get the ContentIds of everything the user owned when they first visited the search page, and then caching it to eliminate further database hits, but when I passed the list of ints into the query via a linq .Contains statement, I hit the SQL parameter limit of 2100, since apparently .Contains() splits them all out.
I have been asked to build an ASP.Net website that has a custom search, when the page is loaded it displays a gridview with a list of data, then when a button is pressed it takes the value from the text box and runs a stored procedure using the value, the gridview then databinds successfully displaying the new data. But the select button does not take the rows data it takes the data from the row corresponding to the data when the page is loaded, not from the search button.
The code for the search is below.
[Code]....
I am using ContainsTable() to perform a full text search on a field (of type varbinary()) and am I wondering if there is a good way to return an excerpt of text around at least one location where the keyword matched the text in the field.Example:User searches for "computer science".The following sentence exists in the varbinary() field: "This book is about computer science and other IT related fields."I would like to return an excerpt around the words "computer science", something like: "...book is aboutcomputer science and other IT..."
View 1 RepliesI have seen in so many sites on the home page there is a search option and after searching any word of the website it displays and in w3schools it navates to goolge with his reference.
How to write a code for the same and which control we should use.
I'm have on my web page a text search box which I want users to type in there favourite football team and this will display a gridview of the teams with the replica shirts I offer.
This is where I thought about creating a stored procedure to carry out this task.
I looked online for ideas but I not found anything as yet.
We're developing a web app with a home page that opens giving the user capability to do different searches. The search results are displayed in a grid. Each row has an open link. The user clicks it and another web page opens with all sorts of detailed info on the selected item. The boss would like to have the new web pages open cascaded the way you can in a windows app - each new window is on top and slightly offset from the last one.Can this be done with a web app? Is there a javascript solution or something in the framework that cann accommodate this?
View 3 RepliesI created a simple search form which populates a gridview from sql server. I use 'contains' on a varchar(max) field which has a full text index. I find if I do a search for "Mexico Argentina", I get multiple results, which is good.One thing my sql server stored procedure is doing is inserting the word 'AND' between words. I do this because I want all words to be found. So if the user inputs "Mexico Argentina", I am converting that to "Mexico AND Argentina"But if I have even one 'noise word' in the search string, I get no results at all. For instance, there might be a sentence in my database table saying "I prefer Mexico to Argentina" but if I put that sentence in, I get no results at all. The database is seeing my converted string:I AND prefer AND Mexico AND to AND ArgentinaAnd finds nothing.I also have another form, which does a more advanced search that allows 'exact phrase'. If the user chooses 'exact phrase', then I don't insert AND anywhere. Instead, I surround his phrase with 4 apostrophes - 2 before the phrase, and 2 after.So now the database sees:' ' I prefer Mexico to Argentina ' ' (I've put a space between apostrophes here to make it clearer to view.Now I not only get no results, I get an error message.

View 5 RepliesI did lot of R & D to implement website internal search in asp.net.
I have found a good article in code project
[URL]
It has some limitations
Search with special characters is not working.
Pdf and word documents are not searching.
Not able to high light the searched text.
If I am implementing this in master page then child title is not displayed in result page.
Requirement:
I need to implement search result should be like this [URL] In description the search text must be highlighted.
Note: I need to implement this with coding not any 3rd party tool (I know lots of 3rd party website which do free hosting but they will post there adds and logo). Moreover i dont want to use any database for this internal searching.
