i have a usercontrol named filebox (which wraps a fileupload and some related stuff) in a certain .net class i have need to use this type as a ctype but i cant seem to call ctype(aobject, filebox) or either ctype(aobject,Controls_filebox) (which is the correct name) how can i convert an object to this type?
I have build a UserControl with separate code behind file.In that code behind file i have defined some public properties in the Partial class of user control that was automatically generated. Those properties will initialize some properties of controls that are used in the control. Now, in .aspx page i used this User Control and initialized the public properties through code behind of aspx page for dynamic contents.
i have a user web control wich has the website menu. this menu is viewed through out the entire web site.
i would like to mark the selected link, on the menu with in the web user control,in some way (red background or w/e) the thing is, i cannot manage this from client side since there is a page_load on every click on the menu (witch brings up a different page). the only thing i can think of is saving the click to the session and then retrieve what was clicked and change the style accordingly via c# in the code behind.
I'm trying to create a user control class that extends Panel. Essentially, what I want to do is to have a panel that fires off an event whenever it's clicked upon.
So, I create something like this:
[Code]....
And then, in the ClickPanel.ascx.cs file:
[Code]....
I'm not exactly sure whether this would work as I haven't had the opportunity to test it yet.
The problem is that I can't have a class inherit from Panel. Creating a user control class requires that my class extend User Control - at least that's what the error messages have been saying up until now. The problem is that if I do extend it from the base class of UserControl then I lose all the functionality of the Panel itself and the entire thing is rendered pointless.
I'm working on a project that uses a master page. When the page loads I'm calling a class (which I feed and ID into) to get back certain values for a location that the user has selected. Things like town name etc.
On the home page I have a user control which has some statistics for that location too.
Is there a way that I can get the user control to pull values from the class invoked by the Master Page (which has already been fed the ID, hit the db and pulled back the values), rather than creating a new instance of the class within the user control and having to supply the ID and hit the db all over again? This is now I'm calling the class in the masterpage. I have a method "CheckForStoredLocation" that goes off and gets all the data I need.

I want to access a usercontrol in my class file not in aspx.cs.i need to typecast it using ASP.usercontrol_ascx type but i cant access ASP namespace from my .cs file..how to typecast the usercontrol??
I am part of a team that is developing a SharePoint web part. My task is to create a user control which will ultimately be wrapped in another class for presentation in a web part. Because of these requirements, I must fit all of my code in a single user control. To organize my code in the code-behind, I created a few private classes for the different objects which are represented in the database. I want to add some exception handling whereby if some sort of DB exception is thrown I can update a message on the page informing the user of the problem.
My problem is that the page-level controls are inaccessible from the private class where I'm issuing the query, so even if I catch the exception I have no way of directly accessing a Label control to populate the error. I tried to create a baseclass with an EventHandler defined, but when I throw events from the private class I'm not able to catch them for whatever reason. I'm far from an OOP expert Here is a snippet: ASP Code: using System; using System.Collections; [code]....
I have a class UserControlBase that inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl and my user controls inherit UserControlBase class. UserControlBase has some common functions that are used in all user controls.
I want to put error display funtion to UserControlBase as well so that I may not have to declare and manage it in all user controls. Error will be displayed in some label in usercontrol. Issue is how to access label which is in usercontrol in UserControlBase in function ?
I have a user control (uc1) which inherits from uc2. uc2 has a user control (uc3) declared in the markup. I am trying to access uc3 from uc1 but I get NullReferenceException. I thought due to inheritance uc3 would instantiate but looks like I am missing a step.
Clarification:
How does the child user control inherit the markup from the base class? The server controls in the base user control are null in the code behind of the base user control. Why?
I have created a user control which is inside a folder called Controls and the class is a partial class which inherits from Web.UI.UserControl. Now from my page which is one level up I just try to access the method inside the usercontrol and so trying to cast it as the type of user control. But I get build errors. It just cannot recognize that class. I get Type not defined error. But at times it has recognized the class. Dont know why it does that.
I have this Control directive in a usercontrol (i've changed the namespace and class name):
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" Inherits="Namespace.Path.To.ClassName" %> <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtComment" TextMode="MultiLine" ValidationGroup="comment" /> ClassName is a class that lives in a class library and this is the class: namespace Namespace.Path.To { public class ClassName : System.Web.UI.UserControl { protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox txtComment; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(txtComment == null); HttpContext.Current.Response.End(); }
Do we have to do something special to have ASP.NET partial classes aware of controls that are declared in our user control's base classes? The partial classes keep generating declarations for controls in the base class which mean the controls in the base class get hidden and are null.
I don't think I understand fully how ASP.NET does inheritance of controls.I have a user control, ucBase, which has an asp.net label in the ascx file. Code behind references the label and it works fine during run time if the control is not a parent for another user parent.
If I have another user control, ucChild, inheriting from ucBase, the label in ucBase's code is always null. ucChild has no controls in its ascx fileThe server controls (like the label) needs to be declared in the ascx file and not created programmatically. What needs to be done for ucBase to see its own controls when it's a parent user control?
I've got a web site that has a master page and that master page (mpMaster that has a user control ucControl1) which has a sub user control (ucControl2), this user control has a property which accepts a value. Now, I have a page that uses the master page and on this page I have another user control (ucPageControl), I need to find a way of setting the value in ucControl2 from ucPageControl. Is this possible at all?
I am trying to assign user control from another user control ..first time its binding control successfully but when we refresh the data its giving error
saying "Object reference is not set an instance".
how to refresh data from another user control ...
My senerio below :
1 Aspx page
2. User control
calling usercontrol databinding method from aspx page but once it get refreshed ,not allowed to bind it again..
All I would like to be able to do is include one user control within another! Is this possible? I have spent the last hour searching the internet and it seems that I can't find a single thing.
In classic ASP it would be something like: <!--#include file="EditProject.ascx"-->
I tried this but no luck!
Parser Error Message:
There can be only one 'control' directive.

I have a .NET 3.5, C#, Silverlight 3, and LINQ Solution. My issue is this:
When a User goes to login I want to set a global class User; it has the properties of UserName and SecurityLevelId.
Then allow them access rights depending on SecurityLevelId. The real problem occurs because this project loads App page which calls the Shell page which calls the Navigation class. On Navigation instantiation it actually instantiates 6 other pages BEFORE you even get to the Login page.
So how in the World am I supposed to set and check all this if the page is loaded before I even go to it?
I want to use a couple of instances of the same control on a page. The user control is intended to display a list of records in a repeater. The aim is that the second control will show a list excluding the IDs in the first control The control has a number of public properties, including IDsInThisList, and IDstoExclude. The query will exclude the IDs in the second property.
What I would like to do is get the record IDs from the first instance of the control (IDsInThisList), and pass them to the second contro as the IDsToExclude.
I have a test page where I am setting the properties of the controls in code. As you might guess, it's not working! The first control displays the top 3 items, as desired, but the second display the records 1-7, rather than records 4-10 because it is not receiving the IDstoExclude from the first control When I response write the IDstoExclude from the first control in my testpage, the string is empty. (if I do it from within the control, it shows the IDs)
How can I get the controls to fire in order and pass values to each other?
