May 27, 2010just wanna ask what is acceptable size of ViewState per page? What is the level I should start worried. Is there any objective measurement for viewstate size?

Sep 16, 2010I am developing a a web application of a general store where the operator has to enter the things what customer has purchased. Like daily usage item,or anything. So I have form in which I first ask how much item u wannt to register...(if he has 20-30 number of items then operator will enter 20-30 then in gridview 20-30 item are opened. With bind dropdownbox containing name of item ,then textboxs containing mrp, value, stock avail of that item. Here is the link for demo. [URL]. Is It Acceptable To Have Unhandled Exceptions In Web Applications
Jul 20, 2010I'm working with a third party vendor at the moment who has supplied an ASP.Net web application. The web app generates around 200 unhandled exceptions per day, which end up as emails in my in-box. Upon investigation it turns out that most of these errors are triggered by the GoogleBot web crawler indexing the site and triggering access to another third party web service, which is rate-limiting the requests. When a request limit is exceeded, the third party web service refuses the request, this results in an unhandled exception in the web server and an HTTP/500 status code. The exception looks like this:

The web app developer seems unwilling to handle these errors for reasons I don't really understand. Their approach is to throttle the GoogleBot until the errors stop happening (Google indexes quite aggressivley, generating around 5,000 hits per day). While I accept that throttling the GoogleBot would work, it seems like a cop-out to me. I've always considered unhandled exceptions to be bugs. Shouldn't the web app handle these errors? It is ever acceptable to allow an HTTP/500 to happen? What do the web developers out there think?

If i remove all the dropdownlist databinding, the speed is acceptable.
I though the connection to database is 8 X 10 = 80 times, so it cause a long time.

Dec 29, 2010I manage an open source project called Quick and Dirty Feed Parser and the objective of the project is to make it as seamless as possible to consume RSS and Atom feeds in .NET.
I ran into fairly early on in the development of the project was that some of the feeds I was using as test cases (namely the Hacker News RSS feed) used improperly formatted HTTP headers, and the HttpWebRequest class in .NET 1.1 and up promptly throws an "unsafe header" exception whenever you receive one of these headers in a GET request.
This change was added in order to put a stop to split-response attacks that were raising security issues at the time .NET 1.1 was released.
I can enable the "useUnsafeHeader" configuration option programmatically, but it does it across ALL HttpWebRequests in that application's context. I have users who've complained about QD Feed Parser being unable to consume valid feeds, and this header issue is why.
Right now I have my library set up in such a way that developers who use it have to enable unsafe header parsing themselves, although most of them aren't aware that this is the problem and it creates a support overhead for me.
I can simply have Quick and Dirty Feed Parser enable unsafe header parsing by default and force security-concious users to disable it, but I don't want to open up users who don't know any better to security attacks either.
Ajax Call Exceeding Acceptable URI Length?
Nov 18, 2010I have a ASP.NET MVC configuration, and I am building a reportgenerator. I am outputting a JQuery table, so that the user may sort and rearrange it, before fetching it as a PDF. My PDF component is .NET-based, and so I need to send the modified table back to the server via AJAX.
The problem is that the URI can get as large as 100k characters, making the server respond with a status of 414 (Request-URI Too Long). It seems that IIS does not allow URIs greater than some few thousand characters.
I admit that it seems strange to compose a URL that big, so I think I might be missing something. Is there another way to post the data to the server, or maybe possible to solve this in another way?

Oct 9, 2010Now here is the weird thing. First i am running it locally on the built in vs2008 web server.I load my control in fine, do a postback from a linkbutton, locally on my machine it all works fine, no issue.However when it goes onto my host, it falls over with the message:
Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request.Now i also load controls dynamically and use postbacks and things in the admin area of the site...and that works fine, however my front end just keeps failing? Apr 30, 2010I have been getting this error a lot lately with some of my users, and I had a couple of concerns with view state and I have read so many articles but I am still lost..
1. I use masterpage on all the pages and I need viewstate for some of the pages but..
There is a page where a user will fill out the information and then submit this data to a cgi server, and it is where I get most of the Client Disconnected errors, what would happen if I disable viewstate when they click on that button?
Now when a user browses from one page to another, does the view state from the previous page get deleted? If not how would I delete it?
Does the master page have its own viewstate? Would I be able to make sure none of items on my master page are using the viewstate?
C# - Page With ViewState Disabled Still Be Validating A Viewstate Field?
Sep 24, 2010I have a shopping cart page (Cart.aspx) that has a button that will (sometimes) post to a third party payment gateway, if payment is necessary. The payment gateway will process the payment and then do a silent post to my website (Order.aspx) so I can update the order status.
Order.aspx always throws an invalid viewstate error, even though viewstate is disabled on the page.
What's happening is that Cart.aspx (which has viewstate enabled) posts to the payment gateway, and the gateway will post it back as part of the silent post. Even though Order.aspx has viewstate disabled and validation disabled, it still tries to validate the __viewstate field it's being given.
I know setting EnableViewState=false will disable the rendering of the __viewstate field, but if another page provides the field, shouldn't it still skip validation? I tried calling ViewState.Clear() on the Page_Init event of Order.aspx, but ViewState is apparently empty. how to get around this? I don't want to disable ViewState on Cart.aspx (in some cases it may be necessary), but I can't figure out how to clear it on Order.aspx.

Oct 14, 2010I know the content palcehlder does not have a size ,I have a masterpage and content page, the master page has a table with a header, content area, and footer, header and footer are fixed size, content area is 100%. As the user sizes the browser the content area grows and shrinks and the footer stays at the
bottom of the browser window - perfect!
Problem: The contentpalceholder does not grow to fill the available content area. Now, the contentplaceholder gets its size from its contents, which in this case is a div holding a silverlight object.I was thinking I could hook the master or child page's re-size event and somehow pass that info onto the SL object, but as it turns out (and I'm surprised I never knew this) there is no aps.net page re-size event! (really?, wow.)
So is there a way to get a SL object hosted on a master page to size itself based on the size of the browser window?Or more generally, a way to size the contents (like a div or panel) of a contentplaceholder based on the browser? on a standard aspx page (not a master page) I CAN get the SL object to size itself based on the broswer, the problem seems to come from the fact that I'm hosting the SL object in a content placeholder.
I guess I could 'unroll' the master page into several standalone pages and have it work, but the menu is on the master page and I'm used to using them, plus it's already done...<sigh>
AJAX :: The Controls Inside TabContainer Size, Font Size And Location Changing After Page Refresh?
Dec 19, 2010I am using TabContainer with some controls on each tab (asp: labels, text boxes). When redirecting to the page that contains the TabContainer, the tabs and their content loads as expected, but when there is a postback, and the page refreshes, the TabContainer UI changes - the font size of the labels gets bigger, the text boxes become bigger and their location changes a bit (not aligned as before), and the tab header is partially hidden. I am using IE7.
I dont know if this is relevant but in some of the text boxes i use edit mask extender as well for date. Also, I have used a table inside the TabContainer for layouting the controls.

Mar 24, 2010I am using PageMethods to send a few parameters to a webmethod in my codebehind. The method runs a stored procedure and uses the results to build a string that I am returning from the method.
Everything works fine until I try to include too many records in my results..
Once the results I am trying to return hit about 70K, the pagemethod times out even though it is taking about 1 second to process the results.
Is there a buffer limit or limit on the size or results returned from a pagemethod and if so, where can this be set or changed?
Is there a setting in the web.config somewhere to handle pagemethod buffer size?
Security :: Caps Lock Is Off When Enter User Name It Prints In Capital Letters But Size Is Small size?
Oct 20, 2010In login.aspx I have used login control to enter user name and password, the problem is: even my caps lock is off when I enter user name it prints in capital letters but size is small size (when I copy and paste in note pad or msword it paste in small letters not in capital letters), when I turn on my caps lock on and type - it prints in bigger size as if I am typing in capital letters.
ex: 1. temp is my user name if my caps lock is off it shows like this TEMP (but size in smaller than 2nd one)
2. if my caps lock is on is shows like this as if I am typing capital letters TEMP
what do you think the problem is how can I fix it

Nov 29, 2010As I know, by default Cache is stored in the memory and to the disk at the same time DiskCacheable=true).When the cached response is removed from the output cache due to memory pressure, it still remains on disk allowing a much larger set of pages to be cached. In addition, disk cached pages survive application restarts. And this is already in ASP.NET 2.0.I dont't know in which order the caches are removed from the memory and readen from disk instead? I would like to achive, that caches with the minimal trafic, or the longest last used, would be removed first from the memory. Is there some settings to do that, or even by default works that way?

The Problem:What I want is that the size of the page that is displayed remains constant for a user and must be equal to the size of their browser's available display area and the content being visible by scrolling the div.Sort of like the header and footer remain at the same position and the content inside it is scrollable.

Where can I put these to bump them up? I've tried googling these settings, and I get sections of web.config that I don't have. I don't have a WCF client, either. Does this make sense to do from my web service, developed in VS 2010?
I'd like to just call his service without changing anything, get the error, and then go from there. I'm even getting that far because I got some other exception saying server was unable to process request, but it had nothing to do with exceeding a buffer size.

Feb 25, 2016My admin set innodb_buffer_pool_size=512M, innodb_log_file_size=128M, and innodb_log_buffer_size=1M although in mysql query show global variables its showing what the value is set. When i restart my system also its showing what we set the data.(It means we set log file buffer file size to max and its working fine.) but when i try to upload a file of 58 mb again its throwing error as The size of BLOB/TEXT data inserted in one transaction is greater than 10% of redo log size.
