Now I would have 4 such similar lists which I have to pick up from the audit table. When the user clicks on move back and move forward buttons he should be able to navigate through records in my list that I have fetched in the beginning . I can store itin a session or viewstate till it gets updated again. How do I achieve this.

Jan 8, 2010I have an ASP.Net app that retrieves a collection of roles for a given user. Each role is a string. There's rarely more than 2-3 roles for any one person.I wanted to store the colelction of roles in Session state to save the time accessing the DB on each request.I basically want to write code that checks if a given string exists in the collection to test if the user has that role or not.My question is...what's the best way to do this? Is an array the best collection to store the role strings in Session with? Or is a dictionary better? I figure an array will take less memory (I don't really need a key + value) although a dictionary might lookup faster.

State Management :: Secure Query String Or Session Variable
Aug 30, 2010Example scenario:
User login has a list of associated 'accounts' it has access to... this list of accounts is stored in a database table, say tblAccountAccessControl, something like:
login, accountID
userA, account123
userA, account456
userA, account798
userB, accountABC
userB, accountDEF
etc..
This info is used throughout the web application and determines the 'domain' of information the particular login has access to. For example there are many other tables that have the 'accountID' field and whenever a page pulls data from the table it only pulls data that the currently logged in user should be allowed to see, based on that tblAccountAccessControl data.
The security question:
Do I need to query the database every time I need to get this list of allowed accountID's? I was about to use a plain old query string to pass a particular accountID to another page but quickly caught myself as I realized that would be a major security flaw (the receiving page was going to use that accountID to grab info from the database, and there would be nothing preventing a user from simply typing in a url manually to get data from an accountID they are not supposed to be allowed to view). So I then thought I'll just store the list of accountID's in a session state variable so they will be carried with the user throughout the session.
But then I remembered there are tools out there that allow you to easily intercept and modify asp.net viewstate information and I'm not sure if that would included session state variables, but I'm guessing they would. Is there a way to create a secure query string? If I used session state would that session state information be exposed and modifyable by utilities out there? Am I just stuck having to query the database every time I need this info to assure security? What about encrypting it and then storing in session state variable (just thought of that one)?

Feb 27, 2011i'm having a gridview with textboxes and i'm allowing user to enter all the textboxes and when submit button is clicked, I'm constructing the Object and adding all the rows to LIST class.,After that i'm putting that LIST elements in a session. Everything is fine, But when i try to cast the session object to LIST type and pass it to XML serialization, I cannot see the elements in the list and it is showing LIST as NULL. I can see the generated XML string with ROOT and my classname as attributes without no data.

Requirements: Create a Web Page in ASPx that will do the following:
1)One label will provide a count of how many times Button 1 has been clicked in the current session.

State Management :: Session Mode State Server - Sending Asynchronous Request
Nov 5, 2010Customer were getting "View State Validation Error" due to worker process recycling at our production webserver and to fix that i applied machinekey and then move my Session state Mode from In Proc to State Server to retain session data and not kick out the customer to relogin. I had serialization issue with one object which has to be stored in session but when i moved it out of session i could able to resolve the issue.
But doing all these i was partly successfull in keeping the user in their session when Worker Process recycle event occurs.I was able to refresh the page or make a post back by clicking the refresh button and also able to retain the session values. But the Problem occurs when sending asynchronous request to server which we do periodically every 15 minutes from the moment the user logs in.The web page doesnot update data on website when sending asynchronous request.By Debugging I found at this particular code point it fails to make a postback which is required.

State Management :: Unable To Serialize The Session State In 'StateServer' And 'SQLServer' Mode
Dec 12, 2010I am new to .net 4.0 and am using EF Model and SessionState Mode=SqlServer and I am getting this error below:
Unable to serialize the session state. In 'StateServer' and 'SQLServer' mode, ASP.NET will serialize the session state objects, and as a result non-serializable objects or MarshalByRef objects are not permitted. The same restriction applies if similar serialization is done by the custom session state store in 'Custom' mode.
I checked the stack trace and its complaining about

State Management :: Recreate State Session Database In SQL Server 2008?
Apr 5, 2010Our ASP.NET App uses ASP State Session Management and has been rebuilt about 2 years ago [With .NET Framework 2.0]. We are currently in .NET framework 3.5 and have moved to SQL Server 2008 - but continue to use the same ASPState database. The State database has been upgraded to SQL Server 2008. Since then we have are seeing timouts/locks on ASPStateTempSessions table. I am wondering if we have to rebuild this database from scratch with some newer scripts?

Jan 21, 2011I'm using the following line of code to display the number of users currently logged on:
lblNoOfUsers.Text = Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline().ToString()
I'm still debugging my application so it's on the local server. As I debug and stop then debug again, eventually lblNoOfUsers.text turns to "0" instead of "1", even as I'm navigating my application. It only turns to "1" again if I log out and sign back in. It's almost as though Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline my login are referencing two different session states. How is this possible? Does asp.net create a new session state cookie each time I start debugging?
State Management :: Losing Session State In Global.asax File?
Feb 2, 2011I am trying to set a session variable in the global.asax file and keep running into the problem that the Session is null.
I am running my application in VS2008 and using asp.net 3.51.
Here is my code:
1. In my web.config file I have enabled the session state and added the following line;

></sessionState>
2. In the Session_Start procedure in the Global.asax file I set the session variable to a default value.

My problem seems to be that when the Application_Error procedure is executed the session state is lost.
Does anyone know why the session state isn't available in the Global.asax file.
