C# - AjaxControlToolkit's AsyncFileUpload Misbehaving When Deployed Online?

Jan 1, 2011

In case it matters, the following is inside a toolkit popup, which has an update panel in it.

<p>
<asp:Label Text="Picture" runat="server" Width="75"></asp:Label>
<ajaxToolkit:AsyncFileUpload ID="MediaPicture" runat="server" Width="200"[code]....

The javascript functions just block / release a submit button, to prevent problems during uploads.This works fine on localhost, but when deployed online on a GoDaddy server, I can't seem to upload files over a few KB, even when locally I could upload bigger files (~2MB)...I can't seem to find the reason for this behavior, could it be on the IIS? I read something about the app pool clearing before the upload could complete, could this be happening?

Btw, just in case, server-side I just take the picture out of this control

byte[] picture = MediaPicture.FileBytes ?? (string.IsNullOrEmpty(mediaID) ? null : Media.SelectByID(int.Parse(mediaID)).GetPicture());

There's some extra logic in there about whether I'm in edit mode or not, and if the current record has a picture, I'll take that over no picture, And then I store it on the database.

Use The AsyncFileUpload From The AjaxControlToolkit In A .Net 2.0 Project?

Jul 24, 2010

I have a project that for political reasons cannot be moved to a later version of .Net and would love to have a drop-in control for uploading files better than the old FileUpload control.

I'd like to use the AsyncFileUpload control, but it's not in the latest version of the toolkit that is supported in the 2.0 framework.

I've looked at some of the flash based controls, but integrating them would trigger a full regression test of the project I'm on (multiple weeks).

We've lived with the FileUpload control because our files are small, but the error handling when a file gets larger won't be unacceptable much longer.

I just found Uploadify. At first I didn't think it would work, but I checked out the forums any way. I found this link [URL] It works great. I can do whatever I want to in the upload handler.

Update Client Image After Uploading With AsyncFileUpload Control In AjaxControlToolkit?

Sep 23, 2010

I am uploading an image with AsyncFileUpload, it works well, but i want to show to the user the image which him just uploaded, but i am having troubles to make that work.I have tried the OnClientUploadComplete event which receive sender and args paramenters, but the second paramenter only have the file name (without relative url), lenght, but not the file name after saved on the server.I also tried ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock and call my own function in order to pass the url, but for some reason i can't select the img control with jquery, seems like that peace of code is executing in another instance of the page... not sure.

Ajaxcontroltoolkit - Ajax Toolkit AsyncFileUpload - "The File Is Attached Is Invalid" Error

Feb 22, 2010

I'm trying to use the AsyncFileUpload control from the Asp.net Ajax Control Toolkit (Sept 30, 2009 stable build: 30930) . I've created a demo application and the control works fine. Files upload and all is well. When I try to use the control in my real application, I'm always receiving an error stating "The file attached is invalid". The AsyncFileUpload control returns this when the file uploaded is null.

To isolate the problem, I created a new master page exactly like the master page in my demo app. I also created an aspx page exactly like the page in my demo app. The upload still fails with a "The file attached is invalid" error. I also compared the web.config for the real app and the demo app and couldn't identify any differences that should matter. The code below is the test code in my real app. This code is exactly the same as the functioning code in the demo app with the exception of having different class names and file names. The web.config listed below is from the real app with the appsettings and connectionstrings removed. Real App Test Master Page:

However when installing on a production Win 2008 Standard server it fails with the message can not load assembly as it has not been signed or the signature does not match. How come this works in one and not the other? The live server has symantec AV installed and running? If this the reason? Have a bit of knowledge ( as all devlopers do) of OS's but am totally stumped by this. If I could even replicate it on the development machine would allow me to move forward. Do i need full Vis Studio? Do I need to sign the DLLs?

MVC :: Website Gives Only Blank Pages When Deployed?

Aug 2, 2010

I'm finally at the point of deploying my ASP.NET 4.0 MVC 2.0 -based web application to the target system and I am getting blank pages for everything - even for the login page. The web application is starting up cleanly without exceptions according to the logs, but none of my MVC routes are ever followed. Instead I get a 200 OK response with an empty page. Here's my environment:

The web application is the root application of a web site. This web site is associated with its own app pool. The pool is set up for .NET 4.0 with a specific local non-privileged user (not the default Network or System user), and this user has read access to the entire web site's tree.I am including System.Web.Mvc as a "Copy Local" reference, which is then in the bin area of the site. I have confirmed that the installed .NET 4.0 already has version 4.0 of the Abstractions and Routing stuff.The web site directory is in the Program Files tree, but any data the application reads and writes is in a different tree, a subdirectory of ProgramData. The app pool's user has read/write access to everything in that subtree. Evidence: the program is logging successfully to a directory in that tree.The site uses HTTPS but I have verified via trace.axd that it is getting through that stuff OK.

Here's what I've seen so far that leads me to suspect a routing problem:

I have a common base class for all my controllers that provides them with common resources. I have a log statement in its constructor, so I should see that in the logs if any of my routes are hit.Nothing is logged if I just give my https://systemname:81/.If I do https://systemname:81/Home/Index, which should be equivalent, I get a blank page from Firefox with a 404 error. (From IE, I get the standard IE 404 page - equivalent meaning.) I do not get the logging in that constructor.If I do https://systemname:81/Home.aspx/Index, I get the ASP.NET default 404 page and no constructor logging.However, if I do https://systemname:81/Home/Index.aspx, I still get the ASP.NET default 404 page, but my controller base class constructor is executed, as evidenced by the log message.

Changing Web Service Namespace After Deployed?

May 21, 2010

unfortunate events we published a web service with the tempuri-namespace a couple of months ago and no one noticed (not in our company, not the companies connecting to the web service) even though it's live since that time and lots of companies (~25 i guess) already access this web service.Now I'm thinking of correcting that mistake and have the namespace fixed to a proper value.The only problem is that as soon as we would do it, all the programs and services connected to this web service would stop working. I can't really allow that to happen.Is there any way to fix the namespace for future purpose or to have the web service operate under two namespaces as one web service?What can I do to get rid of the tempuri-namespace and have it fixed without needing to synchronize the change with all the external companies?

Configuration :: When Website Is Deployed It Looks Just Slightly Different?

Apr 21, 2010

I'm experiencing a frustrating problem. I'm developing a website with ASP.NET 3.5 on a windows XP box. When a deploy it to our development server (Windows 2003, .NET 3.5 installed), I notice some forms look just slightly different. I am using the Ajax Control Toolkit as well and I have noticed that controls such as the Modal Popup look jacked up (they are not centered and the drop shadow is not directly behind the popup). Also, I have noticed differences in line wrapping and things like that. This is very frustrating because I think the site looks great and then I deploy it to give demos and some pages look screwed up. I am using the same version of IE when I view it on my local box and on the development box. Looking at the site on my local box (with IE8), it looks great. Looking at the site on the development server (with IE8 as well), it looks jacked up.
