C# - Calling WebMethod Via JQuery From JavaScript On ASCX, Needing Value Of Control?

Mar 3, 2011

I understand how to use jQuery to make an AJAX call to a WebMethod from a normal page, but I'm running into problems doing it from a UserControl (ASCX). Right now the biggest Issue I'm having is that the JavaScript for getting access to the groupDropDown control is not working. It seems that since this is a UserControl hosted within DotNetNuke, the ususal method of getting the CLientID is not working since it is nested down x number of levels. Here is what I have:

Javascript:

function validateEnrolledDate(src, args) {
var isValid;
[code]....

I'm now just referencing a TextBox:<asp:TextBox ID="dealerId" runat="server" CssClass="theDealer" />

The Text in the Textbox is being set in Server Side code, and it is visible on screen.The alert message is "undefined", so something is still happening so that it is not getting the value of that textbox...

Calling Jquery Function From Ascx Not Working?

Jun 11, 2010

I have an ascx which contains a submit button for a search criteria and I am trying to call a validation function in a js file I've used throughout the site (this is the first time I'm using it in an ascx).

Now I've just tried this:

<script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.3.2.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/jsAdmin_Generic_SystemValidation.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {

[Code]....

Now at first I was getting "Validate() is not a function" in firebug. Since I did that alert testing, I am getting the first alert, then nothing with no errors.

$(document).ready(function() {

The error is an ASP .NET error: Unknown web method TrackItemView. Parameter name: methodName.I've done this hundreds of times (seemingly), but I just can't see what I'm missing. I'm sure it's something small...

I have a page called main.apsx and on that page I have a multiview with a couple of view panes. In main.aspx I also have an have a buttons.ascx file with a few link buttons. When these buttons are clicked I want them to show the the selected view panels in multiview in main.aspx.

I cant seem to figure out where to put the action code for the link buttons. Do I put it into my buttons.ascx.cs file or into main.aspx.cs? I presume in buttons.ascx.cs, but if I do that, how will the buttons find the multiview control?

How To Call WebMethod For Control In Javascript

Jan 27, 2011

I'm trying to call a WebMethod (GetData()) for a control in a web page using javascript.

<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
//this selector needs fixed
$('<%= Control1.ClientID %>').GetData(); });
</script>
<tel:RadScriptManager ID="RadScriptManager1" runat="server" />
<tel:RadAjaxPanel ID="RadAjaxPanel1" runat="server" LoadingPanelID="RadAjaxLoadingPanel1">
<uc1:Control ID="Control1" runat="server" />
</tel:RadAjaxPanel>

The uc:Control code:
[WebMethod()] [ScriptMethod()]
protected void LoadData() {
//stuff happens here }

I can't figure out what kind of selector to use. I have multiple controls on the page, and I want to call them at different times. What kind of selector or what command do I use to run this WebMethod?

C# - Show / Hide Using Javascript On A Control Inside A ASCX Control In A Gridview

Oct 8, 2010

I have written a web usercontrol (ascx). Inside, there is a Panel that I want to show/hide on click of a hyperlink inside the usercontrol.

Normally, this is easy just by doing something like this (the onclick attribute is added to the hyperlink on prerender):

var PanelToShow = document.getElementById('<%=PanelInvoiceHasBeenCreated.ClientID %>');
if (PanelToHide != null) {
PanelToHide.style.display = 'none';
}

but because the ascx control is held within the gridview, the above will assess all the controls (of which there are many in the gridview) with the name 'PanelInvoiceHasBeenCreated'. The only time it will work is when there is 1 row in the gridview. Currently, with my existing code, if I click the hyperlink in any row, it shows/hides the panel in the bottom row of the gridview!

Therefore, my question is how do I get the actual, unique ID I need to show/hide on the correct control in the correct row?

Use The GridView (server Control) From A Webmethod And Call It Via Jquery?

Nov 26, 2010

I am currently working with ASP.NET and the person who designed the form has used all Server Controls for things like TextBoxes and Dropdowns etc when really they are not providing postbacks.. Some of the dropdowns and textboxes are values that I need only in jQuery so as far as I can see there are no drawbacks to coverting these controls to standard html controls rather than ASP.NET server controls?

I suppose I will need to continue to have my GetDataGrid button as a server control because I will need it to postback (and receive PageLoad events etc - all asp.net events) to update the GridView? Or would it be possible to use the GridView (server control) from a Webmethod and call it via Jquery?

Of course in my webmethod I would need to the instance of the gridview to add the datasource - but I don't see how this would be possible without being in the ASP.NET events - or maybe I wrong?

The other thing I thought of was changing the GetGridView button to a standard HTML and calling the javascript postback from the client click event?? This way it would do a real postback and I would end up in Page_load.

Taking everything into effect i don't want to the change the GridView asp.net control as it funcions well as an asp.net server control but i am unsure how i would do this.

I remember a document being available that said "how to use asp.net webforms without server controls" but i can't seem to find it. I suppose using webforms like asp.net MVC - but i can't change the project to MVC - its out of my control.

Jquery - Calling Javascript From Code-behind Using Ajax?

Feb 16, 2011

So I have this idea of creating a asp.net user control, to handle all forms of modal popups (whether it be error handling, forms, dialogs, etc).

I already created this before, placing the user control in the top master page, exposing it to all content pages, so I could do something like:

Master.Popup.ShowException(Exception);

And the usercontrol itself would have the necessary markup to look like a modal dialog, and in the show method just do a .Visible = true.

This is all fine, but I've started thinking of implementing a bit of style with jquery. I'd like for the usercontrol to have some sort of jquery animation on show. But I don't know how to go about achieving this, as I don't know how I would call that jquery function from the codebehind instead of the popup.visible = true.

Javascript - Calling Multiple JQuery Functions In Page?

Aug 16, 2010

I have a page with three HTML labels and their corresponding ASP.NET gridviews contained within divs. Now while learning jQuery, I am trying to achieve two things:1. Change the css class of the lables upon mouse hover/out.2. Slide up/down the grid div upon clicking of the labels.It looks to be working as expected, but I wish to know if I am doing it the right way.My complete jQuery code is:

$(function ColorChange(ID) {
$("#" + ID).toggleClass("gridLabel");
});
$(function ShowHide(GID) {
$('#' + GID).slideToggle('slow');
});

And I am calling these function from onmouseover, onmouseout and onclick events of the label controls passing in the label ID as parameter. As an example:

<label id="lblWebComp" class="gridLabelDefault" onmouseover="ColorChange('lblWebComp')"
onmouseout="ColorChange('lblWebComp')" onclick="ShowHide('gvDivWC')">
Web Components
</label>

Kindly let me know if this is the best way to achieve these effects? Don't I have to right the document ready function in the jQuery code?

<script type="text/javascript">

C# - Calling Method On Master Page From WebMethod

Aug 4, 2010

, imagine a Master page that implements IFooMaster with a method

ShowFancyMessagePopupTheBusinessCantLiveWithout(string message);

I am in a page that inherits this master page. Upon a checkbox being unchecekd, I want to show a message to the user that if they save it, they can't re-check the checkbox without some admin action.

I've been given feedback that I can't just use an alert('message'); in javascript because they want the consistent look of these messages.

Next, I tried to make an ajax call via PageMethods (as that's what everything else in this codebase uses) to show a message. My problem lies in this method being static.

[WebMethod]
public static void ShowSuperImportantMessage()
{
if(!checkboxICareAbout.Checked)
((IFooMaster)Master).ShowFancyMessagePopupTheBusinessCantLiveWithout("If you uncheck that thing, you can't recheck it.");
}

Since ShowSuperImportantMessage() is static, I can't access Master from within. The method on the master page looks more or less like this:

public void ShowFancyMessagePopupTheBusinessCantLiveWithout(string message)
{
lblGenericMessage.Text = message;
btnGenericMessageOK.Focus();
upGenericMessage.Update();
mpeGenericMessage.Show();
}
mpeGenericMessage is an ajaxtoolkit:ModalPopupExtender.

upGenericMessage is an update panel.The other 2 are obvious.

Can I do some jQuery kung-fu to show that stuff? I tried, but the solution complained that the controls I tried to refer to by ClientID didn't resolve since they were on the Master page.

quick edit: Before anyone tells me the architecture is a problem, or I shouldn't have put such a thing on a master page, or w/e...

I know the situation is not ideal, but I this is inherited code, and I can't drop it all and rewrite half of their web stack.

Control Within Ascx Is Null When Ascx Is Added From Codebehind?

Apr 14, 2010

I am having difficulties how to construct my question, but if I have to put it simply the situation is that I have categories of products. I have an aspx with a repeater on the left that lists the categories. And I want the products to be listed on the right. Category number is variable so I made an ascx with a DataList in it. When I try to do foreach category, ascx = new ascx(); then the DataList within this ascx control is null.

ps: what I want to do is to preload all the products (thre is not much) and hide the divs and fadein fadeout them using jQuery when a category div is clicked.

rightnow it is using jQuery.load(); and I don't like how the images load, cuz they download from top to bottom. Progressive gifs alsdo not an option. site demo is here [URL]
