I need to restrict multiple users from logging into my system. I am using Application_OnPostAuthenticateRequest event in global.asax to see if anybody is logged in. It works really well. But CSS is not loading and the screen looks horrible. If I comment out the code in that event, the page renders perfectly. What am I missing? What does Application_OnPostAuthenticateRequest has anything to do with CSS??
View 1 RepliesI know there is a couple answered questions on here regarding "request scoped" globals, but I want to nit-pick on something specifically and maybe squeeze some extra enlightenment out of one or two of you.I have an ASP.NET C# Website and a static Dictionary of objects (loaded from DB once on Application start). Each page request will need to do a lookup in the Dictionary (based on a key derived from the request url/etc) and get the appropriate object.The issue is I'm trying to maximize efficiency by reducing the lookups to the Dictionary per Request. Doing just a single lookup within a Page itself is easy enough and I can pass the object to sub controls, etc too.. but global.asax is separate from the Page and it also needs to use the object (in Application_BeginRequest and Session_Start).
So is doing a Dictionary lookup once in Application_BeginRequest, once (when necessary) in Session_Start and once in the Page negligible speed wise, even if there are many requests coming in every second?I would like it if I could just have a Request scoped global variable that I can easily call upon.. the only one I see available though is HttpContext.Current.Items and that is a Dictionary itself.Am I beingridiculously nit-picky with my concern over efficiency? or will these milliseconds (nanoseconds?) get me in the long run when more and more requests are being made?
PS. I currently only have around 100 objects in the Dictionary although this may increase in the future.

View 2 RepliesI am setting up a new website on new web servers that are running IIS 7.5, which is new to me. I have ran into a problem when deploying an ASP.NET app that is using the 4.0 framework. I get error messages about conflicts with the web.config file associated with the Default Web Site. The asp.net app defined in the default website is using the 2.0 framework currently. My 4.0 framework app is defined as an application under the default website. Both are using different Application Pools. I tried adding this to my 4.0 apps config file

How do I get around this web.config conflict issue? Update for error message: There is a duplicate 'system.web.extensions/scripting/scriptResourceHandler' section defined. The config file for the 4.0 app does not even have this section. The default website app does have this.
I am having some problems sending emails (using gmail). I have an application that allows a user to send an email, request info, etc. I want the email "from" address to be from the initiating user. I set up the settings in the web.config for the first time. Previously, I had always set up the info directly in the code. The email is sending just fine. However, the from address shows the user name correctly but the email address in the one in the web.config.ie. "User From Name <web.config from address>". In the code, the MailMessage object shows it correctly ("User From Name <User from address>"), and the SMTPClient From address shows the web.config from address. This is going to be confusing for the recipient of the emails to see the config address with the user name.
I tried removing the From address from the config(leaving the required userIDpw for the email logon, but no difference. I also tried removing the config mail settings completely and putting it back in the code. Still no luck.
How can I get the from address to be the valid email address in resulting email?
I downloaded and installed the AjaxControlToolkit.Binary.NET35.zip.I added Accordion, and add Accordion panels. Building the web site always fails. There are several error messages, like, Type 'AjaxControlToolkit.Accordion' does not have a public property named 'AccordionPane'. I have written an asp.net usercontrol with TinyMCE as a text editor for my web application.
This control is being used on webforms. When other control(s) perform a partial page refresh, the control no more remains a texteditor, is converted back to the same old textarea control. When updatepanel is not used, there is no problem.
Is this some kind of conflict between Microsoft Ajax and TinyMCE JavaScript or am I missing something ?

View 2 RepliesI merged my website tables with ASPNET.db tables using aspregedit.exe. Problem is the user id in aspnetdb user table differs from userid in website table in datatype. One is Uniqueidentifier and the other int. I tried changing the datatypes accordingly, but unsuccessfully. Do I have no option than to re create all my website tables to match the data type in aspnet.db database?
UserId in custom website table is int. UserId in aspnetdb is uniqueidetifier. UserId in custom website database is the primary key and FK in more than one tables, so thats extensively used in the custom database.
I've got two linkbuttons on a masterpage. It works fine on all pages apart from page I have a form where if I click on one of the link buttons, then the wrong javascript event is fired. It is firing the button on the form if I click on the button on the masterpage.

It appears that it's some sort of handler version conflict trying to instantiate the wrong version of the handler that in turn tries to load an older version of System.ServiceModel, but I haven't been able to trace this down.
Anybody seen anything like this before and have any ideas how to track this down further?
I've looked in ApplicationHost.config and the master web.config files for System.ServiceModel and HttpHandler references but no luck.
GridView bound to a SqlDataSource. GridView.AllowPaging is True. In one of the ItemTemplates I have a LinkButton with a OnClick event.Have a DropDownList for changing GridView.PageSize - done in Page_LoadEverything in of-course in an UpdatePanel.
The whole thing work fine (we are in test fase). The problem is that the LinkButton OnClick event is only being attached to the initial "PageSize" amount of elements. Fx. if I sat PageSize=15 in the <asp:GridView> then change the page size to say 30 from the DropDownList, the page size changes but only the first 15 LinkButtons fire the OnClick event when clicked.
I've tried to do the following:
Attached an "onchange" javascript client event for saving the selected value in a <asp:HiddenField> before postback. Problem here is that the HiddenField value is then only available on Page_Load. By then it's too late to set the new page size on the GridView because the attachemnt of events to the LinkButtons have allready happened - of-course only to the first 15 elements.Then I tried to drop the PageSize=15 in the <asp:GridView> and only sat it in the Page_load. The idea was that with no paging all the Linkbuttons will get treated evenly. That worked, but when I change the GridView page size and click fx. on LinkButton 25, the Click event forks fine but the GridView page size resets to the initial value (15) - no good.
how I can get all the LinkButtons to have their event working, even after I change GridView page size?
I have a simple sql server table with around 20 fields in it. I have created an asp.net page which shows the ecords in a gridview & then the selected record in a formview. There may be cases of multiple users editing the same record so i wanted to use the conflict detection in a sqlDataSource to inform users of the conflict. I managed to get this working where i replicated all 20 fields to create the equivalent original_XXX parameter.
BUT i was wondering whether it is possible to show all 20 fields but only use 1 (the date modified field) to check for data conflicts? I have tried to implement this in the following way:

But i've had no luck in getting it working. The conflict detection simply overwrites the changes instead of not allowing the changes and showing the specified error msg (in the onUpdated event). The examples and tutorials i've seen all seem to indicate that each field would need to be compared BUT why can't i simply compare a datetime field which records the last time a record has been updated? Surely, there has to be a better way of resolving the data conflicts than comparing every single field with it's original value?

The only way I have got around this so far is to put "COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" into my join. Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" and "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS" in the equal to operation.
I have not seen this error previously when doing joins, and it is a real pain. My only thoughts are that I have recently added the ASP.NET Security tables to my database - could this be causing the issue? Is there a conflict with collation going on? Although all my tables seem to be using the same Collation as the "aspnet" tables when I look at the extended properties of each table.
I signed up with a new hosting company that uses Plesk. I use Visual Studio 2005 It appears that my rootfolder must be named httpdocs, which means every website I create would have the same name. If I do nothave my aspx files stored locally in an httpdocs folder, then I cannot synchronize with the server when I usethe copyweb dialog. Also Visual Studio 2005 creates a folder using the website name in the C:Documents and SettingsuserLocalSettingsApplication DataMicrosoftWebsiteCache for storing website settings, but cannot have multiple folders of same name, i.e., httpdocs, so this seems to be a conflict with Plesk.
