C# - Container.DataItem Being Passed As A String Literal?
Aug 16, 2010
I'm trying to pass a string value to a javascript function from a LinkButton's OnClientClick event, but the function is receiving "<%# Container.DataItem %>" instead of the value. Here's the code:
OnClientClick="javascript:SaveQuotaGroupCode('<%# Container.DataItem %>');"
The container is a collection of strings. Why is it not evaluating?EDIT: This is located in a nested ListView. The datasource for the inner ListView is a property in the datasource of the outer ListView.

I have a ListView in which i have a function that creates images for users. I pass userGender,userImage1name,userIsImage1Aprooved values to the function in which i generate image.ie. if user has approved image i return it back, otherwise i return default image based on gender.y question is, is there any way to avoid passing 3 parameters to that function and to pass whole DataRow so i can get values of columns i need?In reality i pass about 12 parameters just made it easy for you.ie. i want to achieve something like that <%# GetImage(Container.Item) %> while in GetImage() i would be able to access Item("some_column_name") or C# version Item["some_column_name"].

I am trying to access the current 'active' top level node from a sitemap repeater from outside of the ASP.NET repeater used to render it, this is for CSS styling purposes as I want to place the child nodes on the subsequent row with different styling horizontally. At present I have the following code which I can't get to display correctly using CSS.
[code]....
I would like to display the child nodes on the next light blue element which I can do perfectly well from a seperate div if this was not rendered using a child repeater. In the image below Blog and Services are top level nodes and their subseqent nodes (2 for each) should be displayed on the light-blue row below. Is this possible?

I'm trying to populate the DataPager using Container.DataItem (I'm not allowed to use FindControl) but I get this error
'System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataPager' does not contain a definition for 'DataItem' and no extension method 'DataItem' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataPager' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

input type=..... value="<%= ISO3166CountryList.GetCountryByCode("IE", CurrentLocale).Name %>" />
I'm looking to replace the hardcoded IE with something like
<%#(Container.DataItem as PhoneNumber).ISO%>
No variations of what I've tried worked. How can I get a databinded value when within a <%= code block? Do I need to use an intermediary variable?

I am collecting user roles into a single dimension string array.
I have a repeater that its source set to that array. The repeater template includes list of checkboxes for the values in the array.The checkbox text is set to: Text='<%# Container.DataItem %>'
All is good till this point.
But I am trying to call a javascript function triggered by clickign a checkbox and pass it the container.dataitem, but the javascript doesn't seem to be reading the value and either complain about string not being in correct format or that treats the container.dataitem as a liter. This is the trial that didn't work (I tried many different things too):
DetermineVal(<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem) %>);
determineval is my javascript function
Can I do that with a single dimension array?

I am fetching some data from Db and displaying it in a textarea using jquery in the following way.$('#textareatest').val('<% =teststring %>').It is possible that the string 'teststring' can contain XHTML line breaks(<br/>).whenever the string contains <br/> I am getting the 'unterminated string literal' error.I saw a number of posts considering '' as line breaks and suggesting to escape it.I tried to escape the <br/> similarly,but it didn't work.

Split the input string based on the separator list passed. Returned string list should have separators in it.
.NET API needs to be implemented
string [] SplitWithSeparators( string inputText, string[] separators)
Input
inputText: passed string
RAMESH EMPCODE 001 SURESH EMPCODE 002 GIRISH EMPCODE 003
Separators: passed string[]
string [0] : TRINATH
string [1] : SHARATH
string [2] : SRIDHAR
THIS OUTPUT I SUPPOSE TO GET
Output
string [0] : TRINATH EMPCODE 001
string [1] : SHARATH EMPCODE 002
string [2] : SRIDHAR EMPCODE 003

In order to generate clean markup, I often resort to using code similar to this:
<asp:Literal ID="ltItem" runat="server">
<li class="{0}"><a href="{1}">{2}</a></li></asp:Literal>
And in the codebehind:
[code]....
Therefore my question:
Is this a common way to generate clean markup? Are there better alternatives? Is the databinding syntax approach preferable?

In ASP.Net, is anyone aware of a way to bypass Forms Authentication if a specific query string parameter is passed in?
Such as:
mydomain.com/myprotectedpage.aspx
...I would like to be protected by Forms Authentication (and so, redirected to login page)
mydomain.com/myprotectedpage.aspx?myBypassParameter=me
...I would like the page to render as normal

We have a service that generates a report (using word templates and a 3rd party library), and then returns a string in HTML. While this HTML isn't great - its formatted correctly in this string. We want this HTML to show up on a page - format intact. What we currently have done is set an ASP.net Literal's text element to this string. While this works, I have noticed that it has reformatted the HTML string slightly. For the most part, it looks like it generated a bunch of new CSS classes, and a new style element in the HTML. This HTML does not exist in the string thats being returned. I could filter all of this back out, but wonder if there is a better way. I assume that the Page itself is altering something. What is the best way to display this raw HTML back to the user? I can't directly use a Response.Write(string), because this page does have a few other controls on it.

I'm using a code-behind function (called TestFx) in my binding expression. I'm passing a string and the function accepts a string but I still get a runtime error saying invalid args.
But if I change the method to accept an object and inspect the value, "it's a string!"
ProductDescription:
<asp:Label ID="ProductDescriptionLabel" runat="server"
Text='<%# TestFx(Eval("ProductDescription")) %>' />
<br />

I would think that this would work pretty seamlessly, but I am having trouble getting the text from a textBox control in an accordion pane's content to pass into the paypal web payments https post.
If I put an amount in the querystring in my codebehind isntead of passing the text string and click the button in the accordion pane, it works perfectly on the paypal page. But for some reason, I am getting a null return in the text string when I try to make the amount in the querystring whatever the text in the textbox is.
I have tried putting the accordion in an update panel and got the same results....
Am I missing something the get the text from the textbox?
Here is my accordian pane:
<cc1:AccordionPane ID="AccordionPane1" runat="server">
<Header>
<a href="" onclick="return false;" style="color:#FFFFFF; font-weight:bold;">Donor</a>
</Header>
<Content>
<b>$150-299</b>
<asp:BulletedList ID="BulletedList2" runat="server" Font-Size="Small">
<asp:ListItem>Program Listing</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem>10% Off other productions</asp:ListItem>
</asp:BulletedList>
<div style="text-align:center;">
<asp:TextBox ID="donorAmt" runat="server" Width="100" Height="15px"></asp:TextBox> <asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" Text="Make Payment Online" OnClick="LinkButton1_Click" />
<cc1:TextBoxWatermarkExtender ID="TextBoxWatermarkExtender1" runat="server" TargetControlID="donorAmt" WatermarkText="Your Amount" WatermarkCssClass="accTextWM" />
</div>
</Content>
</cc1:AccordionPane>
Here is how I am getting the text string in codeBehind:
Protected Sub LinkButton1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim amt As String = donorAmt.Text
Response.Redirect("https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=XXXXXX@XXXXX.org&amount=" & amt & "&no_note=0&item_name=ALT Donor Level Annual Membership&sra=1¬ify_url=http://XXXXX.com/IPN.aspx&no_shipping=0&return=http://www.XXXXXX.com/donate/thanks.aspx&rm=2")
End Sub
Note: Some of the paypal string has been removed for privacy
