C# - Fire An Event Automatically After Barcode Scanner Input?
Feb 7, 2011
I have a textbox on an asp.net page. I use a barcode scanner to get the barcode number into that textbox. I need to then automaticaly fire an event directly after the text box recieves that input. the only event that is exposed is the TextChanged event which doesnt achieve what i need. I am using c# for the code behind.
I am creating a web application using c#. I need to access the values available in a barcode scanner and display it in the web page. The user has a Barcode scanner, which contains the Student Id's. The Barcode scanner is connected to the user machine. Is it possible to access the scanner and access the student id available in the scanner and display it in the aspx page. After retrieving the values and displaying it in page, the students id's available in the scanner has to be deleted.
I have a barcode slider which scan student ID CARD. When students scan their Student ID, the barcode reader generate the following:
BARCODE_NUM,LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME. Below is a dummy example when students scan their Student_ID into barcode reader. I get the following data from the barcode reader.
" %C9887688767876^Smith/John^5656656556565?;C9887688767876=3434354450000? " When the user scan their Student ID into TextBox1, i want to only display BARCODE_NUM which is C9887688767876 from the example. Also When the user scan their Student ID into TextBox2 , i want to only display LASTNAME which is Smith from the example. When the user scan their Student ID into TextBox3, i want to only display FIRSTNAME which is John from the example.
I have a ASP.Net application, that has barcode scanning functionality built into it.If a user is on regular computer like laptop or desktop, then I can simply connect the USB barcode scanner to the USB port and the barcode functionality works fine. But if a user is accessing the ASP.Net application over a windows mobile device, then how can a barcode scanner be connected to his/her mobile device?
I'm using the following codeproject to build an asp.net website and so far everything is good. My only problem is after the barcode is generated, a huge whitespace exist to the right of the barcode. I've been playing with this and am unable to resolve it. Details below:

Well, I'm sure this is not the first time to see this question. and TBH you can find this question answered on many other websites and blogs -not only here-
But I never saw a complete answer for this question, I mean no one talked about the advantages and the disadvantages. no one shared a real experience.
Although Quartz.NET seems like a good solution but yet, there's no enough reviews or a good comparison between the different ways to achieve such a thing.
As far as I read about it I found this are the possible ways of doing this :
Using a: Web Service, Windows Appliction, Console Application, Quartz.NET.
Examples of stuff I want to achieve with the scheduled or automatic methods/events are like archiving after a certain period, auto deleting/moving records in the database, setting a property of an object after a certain time, automatically run some methods according to my holiday schedule.
I hope you'd share your experience either with one of those approaches or share a new way of doing this.
I have one Datagrid with Footer. Footer Row Contains Input fields with one Button to add New Values. I have button click event but not getting fires. my code follows:
I have a button which has a click event but its not firing on the first click. I suspect its something to do with that i am in dropdown box control so when i click the Button the event for the dropdown box occurs (textChanged) but it forgets about the click event
Of course if i click it a second time it works.
Or if i click somewhere else first so that the event TextChange occurs and then click the Button the first time it executes..
Is this normal and what are more workarounds if any?
basically the TextChange event must fire but the button click event must fire as well.
All the events i am talking about are ASP.NET events.
here is some examples of the events i am using - both the button and dropdown
uxGetData is a button and uxToDate is a dropdown box
Validation controls are good to use but plz guide is there a way that I can prevent validation controls to be validate on input and force them to validate on button press ?

I have an input box for searching employee info (attached to a jquery autocomplete), and a box for employee number. The employee info queries multiple values (Lastname Firstname, Title, Clocknum) and returns them all as a string via the autocomplete. This is only if they dont know the clock number. The additional box is so they can search via clocknum as well.
Is there a way, to fire a method which populates a data control after clicking on or tabbing on the selected jquery autocomplete value?
I have to fill a date 00010101 into the text box on page load. But after loading it automatically change to 19010101 Min year is not 0001 How can i input 0001 as year
Can I fire a custom event in asp.net according to my needs ?
I am making a simple chat application for my website.
I am using cache variable to store my chat. When I submit my textbox cache variable updates and text is cache variable is displayed to both the users. Since , I get a postback , my page refreshes and I get an updated value of cache variable but the other user needs to refresh the page.
So, is there any method, which can check if cache variable has been updated and fire an event , so that , I can deliberately force the browser to refresh.
One more problem , I am want to list the online users of my website. ( I need to list all sessions currently active ).
I think , best possible way is to insert current date, time on database after every 10 seconds by all users. How can I get an event which can update a column of database every 10 seconds ?
I have an image on my page than can be changed from a fileupload asp.net control on the page, i want to provide and alternative to clicking the button by allowing the user to click their image. i gave the fileupload a class 'jqueryPhotoUploadTrigger' and it renders like this:
$(document).ready(function() { $("#clickMyColl").click(function () { alert("image has been clicked"); $('.jqueryPhotoUploadTrigger').click(); }); });
the alert does show so i know the script is firing when i click the image. i was just hoping the .click would fire the event on the button but it didnt. can i do it this way or must i find an alternative?
the Contactno is my primary key here....whenever i try to update the number it doesn't get updated while all other values get easily updated..i know there is some problem with WHERE clause in my query but i cant figure out what to write instead of this??? and i know firing a sql query is not considered a good programming method ?
I have a Web Form that contains a Web Control. This control has several buttons on it and one in particular requires that I click it twice before the Click Event fires. The settings are all the same for the buttons but just not sure what to look for.
I have a DropDown which is bounded to an ObjectDataSource. On its data bound event, I am adding "--select--" value on the 0 index. I have a LinkButton on the page and on its client click, i am selecting different item on drop down (using JavaScript). Suppose there are 3 items like --select--, option1, option2 and option3 and now on link button's client click i selected option3, now if I select the default value "--select--", it does not fire the SelectedIndexChanged event. If I select any other value then it fires. Why does it not work for the default value?
