C# - HttpWebRequests Sends Parameterless URI In Authorization Header
Jun 24, 2010
I'm connecting to a web service from .NET, like:
var request = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create(uri);
request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("usr", "pwd", "domain");
var response = (HttpWebResponse) request.GetResponse();
The authorization header looks like:
Authorization: Digest username="usr",realm="domain",nonce="...",
uri="/dir",algorithm="MD5",etc...
^^^^^^^^^^
The server returns (400) Bad Request. A header send by Chrome or IE looks like:
Authorization: Digest username="usr", realm="domain", nonce="...",
uri="/dir/query?id=1", algorithm=MD5, etc...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
We suspect that the difference in URI is causing the web service to deny the request with a 400 error. Is it possible to make HttpRequest send out an Authorization header that includes the full URI?

I am using ASP.NET MVC 3 and am trying to do something that should be really straight forward...
My application uses Forms authentication and that is working perfectly for controllers/actions. For example if I decorate either a controller or an action with the attribute below only members of the administrators group can view them:
[Authorize(Roles="Administrators")]
However I have a folder under the default Scripts folder called Admin. I only want members of the Administrators group to be able to access scripts within this directory so I created a new web.config in the directory with the following inside:
[code]....
However no matter whether a user is a member of the Administrators group or not they receive a 302 Found message and are then redirected to the login page.
If I change the web.config to allow user="*" then it works. It also works if I add an allow users="Username" for a specific user I am testing with.

When a user attempts to directly visit the url admin.aspx, and they are not an admin, they are redirected to the login page. However, the user then attempts to visit ViewWeek.aspx, it indicates that they are still logged in. Why does this ASP.NET authorization boot the user to the login screen, yet keep the user logged in? I'd rather it just direct the user to the default URL specified in the forms tag.
Here's my Forms Authentication:
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms name=".ASPXFORMSAUTH" defaultUrl="ViewWeek.aspx" timeout="50000000" />
</authentication>

I am trying to add Canada Post shipping information to my website. Canada Post has this link to a sample site showing what to send. [URL] I have worked with Canada Post support and they have no sample code for C# or Visual Studio. Can some get me started on how to send the above information from a button click event?

I know you are all going to answer "use a debugging proxy server like Fiddler" but it's not that simple.
Here's my situation: I have some code that runs on a server, in an ASP.NET page code-behind (aspx.cs), which (among other things) establishes a connection to another server, grabs some stuff, and then formats it and returns it to the browser.
The problem is that the other server is doing the wrong thing, and so I want to be able to pass a debugging flag into the page (via the query string, e.g. ?debug=true) so that it will print out the completely raw HTTP request that it is sending to the other server so I can see what the heck is wrong. This code is running in several places so I want to be able to just pass in this flag on dev, staging, or production and just see the request, without having to figure out whether the production servers can talk to some proxy server that exists somewhere, etc.
You would think that it would be easy to do this, right? So I feel like I'm crazy or something but I looked at the reference for HttpWebRequest and its parent class WebRequest and -- nothing. No can do. You would think Microsoft would have thought of this. The closest thing is that you can access the "Headers" collection but when I tried it, it omitted some really important headers like "content length" -- so it must be "lying" to me (I know it's lying, because I know for a fact that the remote server is returning a 200 status -- the request is successful, it's just returning bad/different/wrong data)
Here is the asked-for code example:
HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://www.whatever.com");
req.Method = ... whatever ...;
... other setup for the request ...
/* At this point we are about to send the request.
What does the raw HTTP request look like? */
HttpWebResponse resp = (HttpWebResponse)req.GetResponse();

Our team has recently implemented a role permission based authorization so that we can have granular control. This is similar to what Rockford Lhotka suggests herehttp://www.lhotka.net/weblog/PermissionbasedAuthorizationVsRolebasedAuthorization.aspx I have also read about the Claims based authorization which to me looks very similar to what we have. Can some one put in simple terms what the advantages of claims based authorization are.

I have been struggling with an issue with the Detailsview that I'm using only sending null values to my sqldatasource update. I have seen people on the forums with this problem before but none with my specifics. Essentially, I'm creating a master/details scenario but using ajax updatepanels. A Gridview holds the master records and upon selection of that record the Detailsview is populated and brought up in a modal box. This works fine to display the data in the Detailsview. But upon update all nulls are sent back. I've evaluated the NewValues collection in the Detailsview OnItemUpdating event, and see all nulls. I read a posthere that talks about the KB article KB941155; which states a problem with .NET not being able to find a bound control in template situations:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941155I wasn't sure if this applied to me since I am using Master pages. A couple of other notes. I am using BoundFields in my Detailsview, as well as a sqldatasource with a stored procedure updatecommandtype. The DataKeyNames are being set correctly as well.

I've set up a strongly-typed View and a controller method to save the object represented in that View. The object in question is from a class that uses named parameters with default values. This is not a database object, but rather is the intermediate object that is used for the display and user input. It gets translated into a database object in the service class. Anyway, when I attempt to save the object, I get the following error:
System.MissingMethodException: No parameterless constructor defined for this object.
This is kind of aggravating. I can add a parameterless constructor to the class, and then everything works just fine. I just don't understand why it is necessary. I'm new to named parameters with default values, but the reading and such that I've done has described that method calls with default values do not have to have a 'no-parameter' implementation. You can just call the method with any or none of the parameters specified and everything works as expected. If there is a 'no-parameter' implementation and no params are passed, then that one is used, since it is more specific than the one with default values. Is the behavior somehow different when this is used in the constructor of a class? Why would I have to include a parameterless constructor when I have all the values accounted for? Is the runtime creating an object on the fly as the save method executes, which requires this? The method is like this:
[Code]....
I'm wondering if the object is instantiated by the runtime in order to populate the method parameter, and then assigned values from the form collection. I suppose that would make sense, but I do not understand why this causes an exception. For what reason would a parameterless constructor be required?

Does anyone have any good examples of how to make Unity 1.2 or 2.0 work with ASP.NET WebForms?
I thought I had this figured out, but evidently I'm missing something. Now I'm getting the error; "No parameterless constructor defined for this object". I remember getting this error a couple years ago, I and just don't remember what I did.
Obviously Unity isn't working as it should because somewhere along the way I've forgotten something.

Scenario:
I have a Gridview where I want to handle the Sorting in a custom control that I've added to the header.
I've added this control to my GridView's Header via OnRowCreate event handling. I want the Sort Expressions to persist session to session (via Webparts Personalization)
Here is what I have for adding the custom header control to the GridView Header
[Code]....
This works out well for adding the control, but I can't get anything to persist because these controls are creating initially via postback (per the event) and re-created on all subsequent postbacks. I can't add an If(!IsPostback) because the controls are initially created on the gridview's postback (well at least thats how it's acting when I put it in there) If I were to add this control via the ASP page, not via the Codebehind, I would be able to persist the control. If I try to treat it as though everything is setup correctly, and assign my custom control's controls to [Personalizable], I get a runtime error telling me that I can only have webpartzones in or before Page_init (I'm guessing this is due to when/where the
gridview hits the OnRowCreate event). If there is some fundimental logic I'm missing, or best practices that I'm moving away from,

In my ASP.Net (2.0) Web Service implementation (The implementation class derives from
System.Web.Services.WebService with WebServiceBinding confirming to WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1 .
The SOAP response sent out by the Service has two elements missing :
1> The XML header itself : (<?xml version="1.0">)
2> The opening and closing Envelope tags with NameSpace ("<S:Envelope xmlns:S=http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/>" and "</S:Envelope>" ).
This results in "breaking" of my client unless the above mentioned headers are inserted at the client end, and my intent is to avoid bypasses at the client end as far as popssible.Is this the default behavior ?
