C# - Javascript Added Input Control On .net Postback?
Jun 23, 2010
What I'm trying to achieve/plan, is whereby a page loads with a set of inputs, e.g. TextBox, Radio List etc. Taking TextBox as an example, there is a button for the user to "Add" another textbox to the page (in the same group), e.g. Member1, Member2, Member3 etc etc.
Two questions:
I could add these with Javascript, however the resultant "save" on postback would not get these inputs? If so, how? The form needs to work without Javascript as well, so postback to dad another control is fine, however if I click the "add" button again, it will only ever add one control.
protected void btnAdd_OnClick(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
holder.Controls.Add(new TextBox { ID = "txtControl1" });
}

I have an input box that I don't want postback to occur on someone striking the enter key
I want the javascript event to take place instead.
<input
type="text"
id="addressInput"
onkeydown="inputenter()"
autopostback="false"/>
function inputenter() {
if (event.keyCode == 13) {
seachLocations();
return false;
}
else {
return false;
}
}

I'm trying to removed the added controls. Here's the mark-up that adds upload controls to the page:
<%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="_Default" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" [URL]
<html xmlns=[URL]">

<form id="form1" runat="server" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<p id="upload-area">
<input id="File1" type="file" runat="server" size="60" />

<input id="AddFile" type="button" value="Add file" onclick="addFileUploadBox()" />

<br />
<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text="Label"></asp:Label>
<p><asp:Button ID="btnSubmit" runat="server" Text="Upload Now" OnClick="btnSubmit_Click" /></p>
<span id="Span1" runat="server" />
<script type="text/javascript">
function addFileUploadBox()

if (!document.getElementById || !document.createElement)

var uploadArea = document.getElementById ("upload-area");
if (!uploadArea)

var newLine = document.createElement ("br");
uploadArea.appendChild (newLine);
var newUploadBox = document.createElement ("input");
// Set up the new input for file uploads
newUploadBox.type = "file";
newUploadBox.size = "60";
// The new box needs a name and an ID
if (!addFileUploadBox.lastAssignedId)
addFileUploadBox.lastAssignedId = 100;
newUploadBox.setAttribute ("id", "dynamic" + addFileUploadBox.lastAssignedId);
newUploadBox.setAttribute ("name", "dynamic:" + addFileUploadBox.lastAssignedId);
uploadArea.appendChild (newUploadBox);
addFileUploadBox.lastAssignedId++;

I have a GridView of thumbnail photos within an UpdatePanel, with clickable icons in each row which each load a User Control containing a small Google Map into the relevant row. The idea is that the user can geotag (by clicking on the map) any photo in the GridView.
In the map User Control, there is some Javascript initialising the map:
function initializeMap() {
if (GBrowserIsCompatible()) {
var map = new GMap2(document.getElementById('Map'), {size: new
GSize(336, 200)});
// set the map controls, set the centre, etc.
}
}
Problem is: I don't know how to call the initializeMap() method. Because it's dynamically added to the page, any attempt to link it to the calling button by "onClientClick=initializeMap()" for example, gives a JS error, saying the method isn't defined.
I've tried
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "initializeMap", "<script type="text/javascript">alert('Here'); initializeMap();</script>");
but I don't think I'm on the right track with that one either.

I have an input box for searching employee info (attached to a jquery autocomplete), and a box for employee number. The employee info queries multiple values (Lastname Firstname, Title, Clocknum) and returns them all as a string via the autocomplete. This is only if they dont know the clock number. The additional box is so they can search via clocknum as well.
Is there a way, to fire a method which populates a data control after clicking on or tabbing on the selected jquery autocomplete value?

I have a control which has an ImageButton which is tied to an OnClick event... Upon clicking this control, a postback is performed and the event handler is not called. AutoEventWireup is set to true, and I've double checked spelling etc.... We haven't touched this control in over a year and it has been working fine until a couple of weeks ago.
We have made changes to controls which load this control... so I'm wondering, what kind of changes could we have made to stop this event handler from being called? There is quite a bit of Javascript going on, so this could be the culprit too...

I have a a dropdown on a page
<asp:DropDownList ID="drpName" AutoPostBack="true" AppendDataBoundItems="true" runat="server" ></asp:DropDownList>
and I on occasion want to add items to it using javascript/jquery.
When I select the items that have been added and it does a postback I get the following error:
Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.

How to get a postback on a button added dynamically

I have added a listbox, and on page load I populate it with a few items. Then I have added Javascript code so that the client can click a button to add more items to the listbox. But when the page is postedback I am only left with the items that were loaded from the page load....
Is this the way .net operates?
I was reading that if I need to get all the items in the listbox, I will need to add a hidden field and write out the items in a CSV format, and then use that hidden field to work out the items in the listbox..

I have a page with 4 fixed Tabs. Tabs 1 and 2 are always in position 1 and 2. However, the users are allowed to create their own tabs and add their own html content. I do this by creating a new tab in codebehind and inserting it into the tabcontainer AFTER the frist 2 and before the last 2 tabs. There could be several of these. EX: "F1 | F2 | U1 | U2 | U3 | F3 | F4" where F is a fixed tab and U is a custom tab.
As long as ALL tabs are visible then everything works fine after postbacks.
Based on user settings I sometimes hide fixed tab 1. Everything loads fine the first time. However, on postback The content on fixed tab 4 (always the last tab) is displayed on the bottom of EVERY tab (fixed or custom). It is still displayed in fixed tab 4.
A little background on the code:
Since the tabs are added dynamically they do not exist on postback and must be re-generated every time. This is done in Page_LoadComplete. I have tried it on PageLoad and it behaves the same way.
If I do not re-generate the pages on post back then the problem goes away - as do the custom tabs.
The only thing I could find was from last year, and was supposedly fixed (http://www.codeplex.com/AjaxControlToolkit/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=16321

I have a formview that when in insert/edit mode, has a dropdowlist and a linkbutton. The linkbutton opens a popup with another formview that allows the user to enter new items that are required to be added to the dropdownlist. When the popup closes, it adds any new items to the dropdownlist options (there may be more than one item added). The purpose is to prevent having to have my users partially add/update a record, go create a new item for the dropdownlist then have to come back and edit again since any new items won't be known until they are needed.
At first, I recieved the 'invalid postback or callback' warning and began reading up on the issue. Though there were several forum posts and web articles, most seemed a few years old so I thought I would find out if there were any subsequent changes that might help me out. I'm using vwd2005/ASP.Net 2.0 and do not have ajax (not available on my corporate web servers). In the page directives, I disabled EnableEventValidation but then I found that while other controls were updating, the value set in the dropdownlist was not and I had to make 2 edits anyway. Since new items in the ddl won't be around when it is rendered, i've read that I can't make use of registerforeventvalidation. ps. i have thought that i could save my viewstate, browse away from the page instead of use a popup, then restore the viewstate, but I'm concerned about being able to update the ddl while retaining the viewstate.

I am using the following code to create calendar controls on textboxes that have been dynamically created using cloneNode. The problem is that in IE it seems to add the behavior twice to the textbox causing it not to work. Is there a way that I can remove this behavior before it is added in ie only to prevent it from being added again? This works perfectly in firefox
var rawDateControlID = ctrlPrefix + 'txtStartDate' + tblPatientMedicationsRowCount;
var $tstCalendar = $("#" + rawDateControlID);
$create(AjaxControlToolkit.CalendarBehavior, { "id": $tstCalendar.attr("id") + "cld" }, null, null, $get($tstCalendar.attr("id")));

I have a Web Site project, and within it I have a user Web Control defined in an ascx file.The control is added to the Site.Master, and it shows up correctly on the page and everything is fine.I need to override some of the control's fields on one of the pages that derive from Site.Master.
// In OnLoad:
MyControlName control = (MyControlName) Page.Master.GetBaseMasterPage().FindControl("controlID"));
The issue is that MyControlName doesn't register as a valid Type on the child page. If I add a second instance of the control to the child page directly, the above works as needed, but if the control isn't placed directly on the page, and instead is only defined in the master page, the type is undefined. The control is not in a namespace, and is defined within the project, so I don't know why it is having such an issue location the appropriate type.If I put a breakpoint in the OnLoad, the type listed for the control is ASP.my_control_name_ascx, but using that does not work either. Why can't the child class reference the correct type? Can I fix this?
