Jul 6, 2010
I have this page where in i have a ModalPopupExtender. Now the panel that shows up as a ModalPopup has 2 buttons namely "Invite" and "Cancel". My problem is that when i click on either of the buttons postback does not occur and i am unable to run my server side code.
When i click on the "Invite" button it simply hides the ModalPopupExtender control and does nothing!!

I have a Panel extended by a ModalPopupExtender. Within the panel is a button that uses javascript to display the width of the panel. I have two other buttons: one to show the popup and one to trigger a postback. All the controls sit within an update panel. Before triggering a postback I can show the popup and the button to display the width works fine. After I cause a postback, though, it always reports 0. Here is the page I have:

I work with ModalPopupExtender (ajax control toolkit) asp.net
that is to say that a popup appears which contain one panel with 2 DropDownList (DropDownList1, DropDownList2)price starting from DropDownList1 the DropDownList filled due to the code behind.
My problem is that when I click on the DropDownList1 ModalPopupExtender that contain the Panel is gone because of AutoPostBack = "True" of DropDownList1.

I'm using what I believe is a pretty common/boring/generic implementation of a ModalPopupExtender. I'm using client-side JS to show the dialog when the user clicks a link, and hide it if they click "cancel". I only do a postback if they truly want to save the data.
I can click the link to show the dialog, then click the cancel button to hide it, then click the link to show it... ad infinitum. If I decide to save the data via a postback, everything works well, and the dialog is hidden as a result of the postback, all as expected.
However, once the postback completes, my client-side JS show() never works again. Any attempts to click the link fail quietly; no error messages, the dialog just never shows again.

I would really appreciate if someone can find out what's wrong with this code.
Here is my question. I have textboxes in a modal popup extender (City, state, zip) and there is an image button search for searching the address from the database. All this functionality is within a control (.ascx file). This control is added to the page where it needs to be displayed and is being displayed when a user click the Address button (the code for it is not shown here). The method ShowAddressSearch() in the control is being called from the page and it displays the popup.
When the user enters any of the 3 values and hits search a server event is fired up and the result should be displayed in a grid. What is happening is, when the user hits the search button the server call is made and the data fetched from the db but the modal popup closes itself here is the code for this. I would really appreciate if someone can find out where and how popup is getting closed.

Is something like this possible?
Dim iCounter as Integer
Dim iQuantity as Integer = 10
Protected Sub btnFoo_Click Handles btnFoo Yadda
For i as Integer = iCounter to iQuantity - 1
//do something with AsyncPostBackTrigger until iCounter = iQuantity - 1
//then trigger a full postback
Next
End Sub
I am new to the concept and feel like there must be something really easy that I am missing.

On my page: a Button1, a ListView1, a Panel1 and inside Panel1 an ImageButton1In the ListView1_PreRender-Event the property Panel1.Visible = false or Panel1.Visible = true is set.1. After first loading of the Page Panel.Visible = false ist set in ListView1_PreRender.2. After the postback click on Button1 the criteria for the visibility of Panel1 are evaluated, thus setting in the ListView_PreRender Panel.Visible = true.

I have a script that runs during the Page_Load() event which checks a database table to make sure that the user is still owns the lock on the page. If they no longer own the lock, I disable all the controls on the page and display an
error message. My thinking was that by disabling all controls during Page_Load() I could prevent any PostBack events from occuring. For example, I have a button on the page called "Save and Quit"

I implemented the AsyncFileUpload control on a web page. This web page requires uploaded files to appear in a gridview. The gridview contains the following columns: "File Name", "Confidential" Check Box, and a "Remove" button to remove the uploaded file.
Since the AsyncFileUpload postback does not do a full page postback, I need to "force" a postback on the OnClientUploadComplete event of the AsyncFileUpload control in order to render the gridview after uploading a file. In the OnClientUploadCompleteevent, I use javascript to call __doPostBack. In this postback, I only bind my gridview and display the file information (I don't re-save the file).
The problem: On the AsyncFileUpload's first "partial" postback, the file is successfully uploaded, as expected. On the second postback that I force with __doPostBack, the file is re-uploaded. You can verify this by using Google Chrome, which displays the upload progress. The behaviour is as follows: After selecting the file, the progress increments from 0% to 100% and the file is uploaded. After this, the __doPostBack executes, and you can see the upload progress increment again from 0% to 100%.
How can I make sure the Gridview is properly populated, but that the file is not uploaded twice?
I attached a sample solution which contains the issue:

I have three buttons that open the same form in a Panel using ModalPopupExtender. I need to be able to pass a set value into a hidden variable within the panel so that the information can be used when the form is saved. eg. User clicks a button to download brochure A and a different button to download brochure B - I need to pass the ID of the brochure to the form. Is there a way of doing this client side from the button clicked?

I'd like to use a modalpopupextender in my asp.net page to show a sub form. But it only has to show on specific conditions. Those conditions are determined in a piece of javascript code. So, most importantly, the modal popup doesn't have to show on a button click. However, if I leave the property TargetControlID empty I get the following exception: The TargetControlID of 'ModalPopupExtender1' is not valid. The value cannot be null or empty. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details:
System.InvalidOperationException: The
TargetControlID of
ModalPopupExtender1' is
not valid. The value cannot be null or
empty.

I try I cannot seem to find a satisfactory solution. As far as I can tell from the documentation a ModalPopupExtender should be able to reside inside an UpdatePanel. However, I simply cannot get it to work. After the first refresh of the UpdatePanel I get errors of various kinds depending on what I've tried.
What I'm trying to accomplish is having a button inside an UpdatePanel which launches a popup. Another button inside the UpdatePanel causes a partial postback. And finally a button within the popup has to cause a partial postback. I have tried at least five different approaches to this problem and finally I gave up and went with a very inelegant solution. I don't think my requirements are all that strange, am I doing something wrong?
First I tried this:
[code]....
This works fine until after the first postback when the Cancel-button (Button4) starts causing synchronous postbacks and the textbox starts to fill up with commas. I also tried the same as above but placing an UpdatePanel within Panel4 (the popup) - no go. Then I tried causing the postbacks in javascript launched from the ModalPopupExtender's OnOkScript - still it starts failing. I tried another couple of attempts
all of which failed. Finally I decided to move the ModalPopupExtender outside the UpdatePanel, add dummy buttons and a bit of javascript to launch and hide the popup. Although this satisfies my UI requirements it just plain wrong from a design perspective and it annoys me that I could not get the extender to work inside an UpdatePanel. Has anyone succeded with placing a ModalPopupExtender in an UpdatePanel with the requirements I stated above? Or should it be added to the list of controls that's just not compatible with the UpdatePanel?
this is my final solution:
[Code]....

I am trying to add a ModalPopupExtender to a page I am using. But every time I try to add the ModalPopupExtender, it show an error on the bottom left of the IE page saying Object Not Supported.
I have put in the minimal amount of code required to use the modalpopupextender (i.e., just controlIDs) and it throws an error. If I comment it out, I get no errors on the page.
Stranger still, the Object not supported error states that it's at line 916, character 1, yet viewing the source only shows 343 lines of code? I have been trying to figure this out for a day now with no luck. I follow every tutorial I can find on the web for the modalpopupextender and everything is great until I put in the actual control.
