I am developing an application that will have 200+ sessions at any given time. I am also relatively new at asp.net development. This application will be hosted on a remote server along with its SQL Server 2008 database. Each session will constantly use SQL select, update, insert, and delete commands. Do you think it would matter if I used server-side logic to perform all the SQL commands, passing parameters back and fourth? Or should I do some more research on client-side database manipulation? Would it be too much load if i used strictly server-side?
I am unsure on how to perform this task, what i need to do is make a gallery with tagging. I need this as it is a requirement for the project. Each user will have there own gallery and be able to upload and delete images from there gallery. I already know how to insert and select images from a database. I will then display the gallery using a data repeator with paging, I am sure i can google an article for data repeator with paging.
My challenge is, when the user wants to save a image to there gallery, he must 1st upload the image and then i must some how display the image, when the image is displayed, i will have a text box where they can add tags, this textbox will save in the tag table for that user_id, picture_id and the tag will have an id also. I am unsure on how to do this When he clicks save, i wanna insert the image into the table, and the tag. If he does not click save, then nothing should be saved. Now the 2nd part.
In the data repeator, i want a modal window to popup when they click an image, this modal will have the image and the respective tags that where saved for this image, I am unsure how to this.
I am new to databases and linq, so my problem may be considered trivial. I currently start all my db requests in each class with:
DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext()
Then I proceed to make whatever linq request I need within the method and carry on with the main application logic.
Now, two interesting queries:
1) I believe I have seen people wrapping db usage within 'using'. Such as:
using (DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext()) { ... }
If this is correct, then doesn't it mean that my class can't use a member 'db' variable anymore, but rather those db requests need to be made within each function call? Also, what exactly would happen if I don't use 'using' within the calls?
2) Running my app with SQL Profiler enabled, I see lots of connections opening and closing. Does this means that each
DataClassesDataContext call makes a separate connection? It seems inefficient, so is the right way to actually make the DataClassesDataContext object a static within each class being used?
i developed one asp.net application.i published the application in iis server.then by using that url i am testing the application in my system the design is coming fine. But in other systems the design is vary.both the systems are having IE8 Browser and both are same versions.
why the designing is vary can u pls let me know.
and also button styles all are different changing in system to system.
A sample linq query from MSDN: var expensiveInStockProducts = from p in products where p.UnitsInStock > 0 && p.UnitPrice > 3.00M select p; Does this query select EVERY column from the database table immediately, or does it return some sort of pointer that retieves the actual column data on demand? ie. If there are 50 columns in my table and I only use a single p.UnitsInStock in my actual code, then am I retrieving 50 times more data than I expected?
I am wondering what the most efficient method is for retreiving a single cell of data from my database. I have a price table in my DB that I just need to look up one price at a time. Currently I load a dataset and call ds.tables(0).rows(0).item(0) for the value. I just want to make sure this is the best way do this.
My kind webhost (1and1) royally asked me to go elsewhere to do something like this.
I have 2 sites. One of them was developed by a .Net programmer. Now I am contracted to implement a PHP site and fetch data from the .Net site.
There is an ASP.Net form that a customer fills and when they hit submit, the data gets stored in SQL Server DB. How do I also store the same data in MySQL parallelly? I cannot directly use some database connectors with ASP.Net since MySQL connectivity is not supported on 1and1 Windows hosting (biz account, no less!).
What I thought of is to publish an RSS feed of entries in ASP.Net site and routinely scrape that data into MySQL on Linux host. It is an overkill, I know. Not efficient.
Analysis and design C# application with pure object orineted feature .
for example
I get all the requirement for the user, How to analysis the system , keeping future changes in mind , design and system with pure object oriented feature .
in Short : design system with pure object oriented feature so that it flexible so that in future new version can be launch easily
i want to design a stock financial report system and fortunately i hooked in the database design part. The report is made up of different sector and under the sectors thier are companies. All sectors have some unique entry fields which makes it different from the other. for example banking sector is different from insurance sector because there are entries that differ. My problem is how to create a non-redundant database that features all the sectors and companies. the idea i thought is to make a table for every sector and i found out that with these idea i wil have some relational issues for example in each sector i will have company id as primary so in establsiing relation i will hav constraint.
how to design a non-redundant databse with respect to these subject.
how can i implement tagging in my asp.net website using visual basic. is there any online video tutorials? and how to show older tags or give new tags to any contents. secondly i want to know how to implement cloud tagging?
The say why of tagging this stake overflow is using right now. when we put the mouse on tags text box it suggest some older tags and also we can enter new tags.
I'm trying to create an image gallery where you can create tag on the photo like on facebook.Does anyone knows any free library to do this... I have already searched on google but i don't be able to find anything :S
I am working on a web app that displays customer orders. When the app runs in IE 8, some of my transaction ID and invoice numbers are getting converted into a graphic. When you hover of it, It says to "click here to call this Skype number in Namibia". In Firefox, it displays correctly. Here is a screen shot:This app is going to be used by external customers, so I don't have control over their browser settings. I need to programmatically prevent it, somehow. Is there any code I can put into my web form to prevent third party DLLs from doing this?Is this related to IE 8 or is something that Skype is doing?
I want to design a database of chemical material. As every body knows that the chemical material has more than 20 variety of features such as color, molecular weight, temperature, pressure,pH, etc. I learn that all of features was designed into description item in some database, but I think it is not an easy way to research. As a good SEO principle,I expect material can be searched by many items, could you tell me how i improve that design,
I've just finished my database design and now i'm going to start implementing it in SQL Server 2008. Since i'm creating an ASP.NET Web Application i would like to use Membership Provider to manage user access to the application. In other projects (more simpler) i used Membership but always with its default parameters.
In this recent application i need to use custom user data for it to work properly.
So, what i would like to know is, how can i use my 'Users' table in my DB with .NET Membership Provider?
how to design following small webproject and database .i am totally new in this area.
I need to quickly develop a system so that everyone can access the status of the job going online into the system
Activities
Move the job between work centers when it's completed.
Transfer button. So when design is done we should be able to click the transfer button and move the job from Design to Procurement
Here are the work centers.
plan cerement TST Shipped Each work center should have due dates User will have to update manually due date for each work center and this will be different for each job.
I have a ordinary Category/Product database relationship Design structure.
Now i wish to add a sub category to this architecture.
for example, Cloths Category needs to be sub divided - Women,Men,Children categories. Also what about other Ctegories such as: Car,this also has sub divisions: Model,Type.
My Products table contains ProductName field together with generic field for Size,Colour and Price fields.
How do you therefore incorporate this sub division into the existing Category/Product relationship model and is there a model example?
In my web application I want to log certain user interactions etc, like "User ABC joined Group XYZ" Therefore I want to set up a logging mechanism that logs into a Mssql database. I'm now trying to find a good database design to achieve flexibility.
First of all, I don't want to log strings like "User ABC joined Group XYZ". I'd like to separate the content "ABC" and "XYZ" from the template. So I'm looking for a templated logging database.
Something like this: table: UserLog
IDLog int primary key [code]......
I think this database structure would give me enough flexibility to add/remove/edit specific log types (like 'User ABC did something else'). For example I might want to add some information to a specific log entry for future entries. Therefore I create a new UserLogTemplate that references the same UserLogType. That is how I would achieve downward compatibility.
I am building a page that displays a product's details, with the information being called from an MSSQL database.I would like to be able to have a variable number of features listed for each product, so for example, Product A has a list of 3 features, Product B has a list of 7 features, Product C has 2 features listed etc.I would like to avoid having a lot of NULLS in my database, and would prefer not to restrict the number of possible features listed. Is there a common way to tackle this problem? Is it simply a case of setting up a table just to store features?
I'm in the process of re-writing an existing survey application that is currently using nested repeater controls to display questions and answers. The application was not designed with future enhancements in mind and its a pain any time a new question has to be added to the application. The repeaters currently contain questions, answers, and controls(texbox, radiobuttonlist, etc.)
Is the repeater the correct control to use for this type of application? What is the best way to design this type of application and table structure? Are there any new controls or features in VS2010? How to design this application the correct way and make it more flexible?
I'm looking to create a survey with a Radio Button List and a submit button and then I want to store the result in a database. Not sure how to do design the database columns or handle the click event to write the survey answer to a database.
for years now I have had a problem with trying to design the best database design for an internal email messaging system for a website.
I would have thought that this would be a fairly easy thing to think of at this point in my development history but it still eludes me to no end.
What irratates me even more is that I would think i could find something online giving more detail about it but i have yet to find the right search term to use
