C# - Nesting A SharePoint Webpart Inside Of User Control?
May 4, 2010
I know it's usually the other way around, but I have some extenuating requirements that must be met (read as "No one bothered to do the research and now I have to bail them out")
I have a standard user control (ascx) that is to be imported into a SharePoint 2007 website. Due to a design constraint, a sharepoint web part that is also needed has to be nested inside of this user control.
So in other words, the user control would have to look something like this:
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="foo.ascx.cs" Inherits="foo" %>
<div id="container">
...snipped...
<!-- SharePoint web part goes here -->
...snipped...
</div>

I am new in sharepoint development. I have 2 webparts attached on a page. The first webpart (MyTestingWebpart1) basically it does only inserting of data and the other webpart (MyTestingWebpart[2]) displays the records from the database. Now my problem is when I try to click on the save button, somehow I don't know how to refresh the webpart that displays the newly inserted record. Is this possible?
I have added a query at the page load event of MyTestingWebPart[2]. Both of the webparts attached are web user controls.

Login control is nested inside the div element.
aspx file:
[Code]....
a) As far as I know, the width of a nested element (Login) should by default be constrained by the width of a parent element. But that isn't the case, since Login is always expanded to its full width, no matter how small is the width of a #parentE element. why Login
doesn't have its width constrained?
b) I'm also getting some inconsistent results: if I change the value of "right" property to 200px, then element should be closer to the right edge by one third, but is in fact closer to the edge by 50%. If I then change the value of "right" property to 100px, then the element is only few pixels removed from the right edge of the browser ( while it should be 100px removed from the right edge )

I have built a few custom applications that run on WSS 3 using the Visual Studio 2010 Web application template. When I compile the application, Visual Studio creates the assembly file in the bin directory which I copy over later to the production server (another machine) with WSS 3. The compiled application dll file is copied into the bin folder inside the virtual directory of WSS and runs fine in there

Never worked with Sharepoint, but need to add a WebPart to display a PDF document. How does this work? There is currently some code to add a ReportViewer (SSRS) WebPart, but I need to replace it to display a PDF file (from disk). The PDF file is from a local/network path that is not served publicly. I need to get the PDF content streamed in a web part, setting the content-type along the way. If it helps any, my thoughts are to respond on a different URL (page in the same site), that simply takes some token (get params?) and streams a byte[] and sets the content-type as application/pdf - I could well be completely off the mark. You will need to be quite specific with steps and code/sample/links in the answer.

I have a problem on adding a webpart to sharepoint page.
I have a blank page in the sharepoint, and I have a custom control uploaded to the site, on adding the webpart the the sharepoint page I get the following error:
"Attempted to use an object that has ceased to exist. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80030102 (STG_E_REVERTED))"
I get that error even if the sharepoint page is totally blank and so is the web part.

I need to create a repeat region area where I display the Area as a heading and then listing the cities within that area.
I can achieve this using a gridview and nesting one inside another using this tutorial: [URL]
But I really need the ability to customize the page that only a Listview offers. So does anybody know of a good tutorial to do this?
Note I'm Using MS Access for the datasource of both City and Area tables.

We have a web part on which we display some data in a grid. We are exporting grid's underlying datatable to Excel and displaying Open - Save - Cancel dialouge box on click of a server side button.Following is the code we are executing on click of server side button.
this.Page.Response.Clear();
this.Page.Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=MyTasks.xls");
this.Page.Response.ContentType = "application/ms-excel";
this.Page.Response.Write("...here goes my well formated html....");
this.Page.Response.End();
Problem is that when i click on Cancel in the diaglouge box then dialogue box to Open/Save excel disappears but all the server side buttons placed on my web part becomes non responsive, on click of any of those buttons their server side click event does not get fired

I'm developing an ASP.NET user control in VS2008 that writes to a SQL Server 2005 database. I've published the control to a SharePoint 2007 MOSS page using the SmartPart addon. The control consists of a few text fields and a submit button that writes the contents of the text fields to the database. When I test the control in the Visual Studio debugger, it works fine. When I try to submit data from the SharePoint page, I get the error shown at the end of this post. Last time I saw this, it was a database permissions error, but I've granted my site's default application pool read/write access to my database. Does anyone have any idea what else the problem might be? Also, how can I double-check the credentials that the SharePoint page is using to access the database, since I still suspect that this is a permissions issue?

I have a web user control that represents a simple message box. It is used to display simple messages like "Item has been deleted", or "The item was saved successfully".
On the other hand, I have another web user control that represents the item in the form of an editable form (I made this a user control because this is used in two different pages). I want to embed an instance of the message box user control inside the editable form. I am writing this right after the @Control directive:
[Code]....
Instead of using @Register directives, I register the user controls in web.config and so far this has worked just fine.
With the above markup, the project compiles, but whenever I try to navigate to a page that contains this construct, I get an HttpParseException exception. Furthermore, Visual Studio states that the tack w7rc9:MessageBox doesn't represent a known control.
What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to read the data from XMLDataSource into a gridview (in asp.net). It works when I perform below logic:
Dim ds As New DataSet()
ds.ReadXml(Server.MapPath("LoadData.xml"))
GridView1.DataSource = ds.Tables(0)
GridView1.DataBind()
and I hardcoded the resultant hyperlinks inside the GridView with some name using the following exp: (and it works).....
But when i embed the griview inside a webpart , configure the datasource, I am not able to read the data from the XMLDataSource. I get the following error: The DataSourceID of "GridView1" must be the ID of a control of type IDataSource. A control with ID "XMLDataSource1" could not be found.

In classic ASP it would be something like:

I tried this but no luck!

I have created a Templated User Control (see:

It has one template <ContentTemplate>. Inside that template, I've defined a couple of server controls with their properties = '<%# Bind("colName") #>'.

I have an ASP.NET 4.0 application with some simple user controls. The user controls work fine on the design surface (VS.NET 2010), but when they're loaded during application execution, nothing shows up.
Futhermore, the various child controls of the user controls are null when referenced inside the code behind for the user control.
The code behind for the user control executes as expected, but any reference to child controls are null.
It's like ASP.NET is never parsing the ASCX to create the instances of the child controls.
