C# - No Trailing Slash In Hostname, HttpResponse.RemoveOutputCacheItem Doesn't Work?
Feb 19, 2011
I have an action for which the output is fairly static, until another action is used to update the datasource for the first action. I use HttpResponse.RemoveOutputCacheItem to remove that action's cached output so that it is refreshed next time the user loads it.Basically I have an action like this:
[OutputCache(Duration=86400, Location=OutputCacheLocation.Server)]
public ActionResult Index()
{
return ...
}
[code]...

This is a near identical problem I am having to that of this query, albeit mine is a Web Forms scenario (using routing in .NET 4) as opposed to MVC.Add a trailing slash at the end of each url?The solution that someone mentions there is only half provided unfortunately as the link to the complete solution is broken.At the moment, any trailing slash from my page routes is removed when I get the route url.This is especially problematic when I want to use the following type of inline syntax on my web form:
<a runat="server" href='<%$RouteUrl:RouteName=Posts %>'>
Again here the trailing slash is removed, despite it being present in my route table.Can anyone please help provide a clean, efficient solution to this problem? Ideally, like the 'nearly complete' solution provided in the other Stack Overflow thread I've put above?

I am trying to sort out a trailing '/' problem I have. Below is what I have in the web.config. I think I need to add a line in the add input section. If he server receives a direct request for an image say /images/image.jpg then it is rewriten to /images/image.jpg/ - this is a major problem as I have customer 404 error pages to deal with all the page requests. I have had 1000's of exception errors because of this yesterday.

I am currently using Visual Studio 2008 on XP Pro SP3. Developing against http://localhost/ everything including debugging works fine.I need a second website on my machine. IIS 5.1 only allows one website at a time so I used the JetStat XP Pro IIS Admin tool to create a second website. This runs by stopping the Default website and starting the other have added the new website name into the Hosts file and mapped to 127.0.0.1.

I'm writing some code in which I need to use my own HttpResponse object to capture the output from a method on another object that takes an HttpResponse as a parameter. The problem is, this other object (which I cannot modify) calls HttpResponse.End(), which causes an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception to be thrown. What can I do about this?
Dim myStringbuilder As New StringBuilder
Dim myStringWriter As New IO.StringWriter(myStringbuilder)
Dim myResponse As New Web.HttpResponse(myStringWriter)
someObject.doStuffWithHttpResponse(myResponse) ' calls myResponse.End() and crashes
Here's some more complete information about the error, thrown from the following code in a console application:
Dim myStringbuilder As New StringBuilder
Dim myStringWriter As New IO.StringWriter(myStringbuilder)
Dim myResponse As New Web.HttpResponse(myStringWriter)
Try
myResponse.End()
Catch ex As Exception
Console.WriteLine(ex.ToString)
End Try
Here's the text of the exception:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at System.Web.HttpResponse.End()

I am a new to WCF. I have written ajax to use a web service before, but on this project I am trying to use ajax to WCF.After I build the project and wcf using ajax, I receive the return successfully. But, 10 or more minutes later I don't get a return, the ajax calls the error function, and the fiddler returns nothing.
If I rebuild the project without any source modifying, I receive the return successfully again.

I'm attempting to import, using VB.Net, a spreadsheet from some other users than myself. In the spreadsheet with headers, the numbers I'm importing are in the first column of the spreadsheet (Excel 2003 to 2007). I've defined my datacolumn for the column with the numbers as a "string". What's happening is the trailing zero is dropped; so 1.1 and 1.10 both appear as => 1.1.My code is attatched below.I know I'm missing something, I just don't see it!I've tried both; MicroSoft.JET.OleDb.4.0 and MicroSoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 but neither seems to make a difference.

I am trying to save an updated xml file to a url like this:
Quote:
//save the output to a file
xmlDoc.Save("http://www.example.com/HomeNewsLinks.xml");
But I get this error: URI formats are not supported.
Did some google search on this and it seems I need to use client.uploadFile method, but I am not able to find how to declare/define filenamexxx (below) and how to pass a username/password.
Quote:
WebClient Client = new WebClient();
Client.UploadFile("http://www.example.com/HomeNewsLinks.xml", Post, filenamexxx);

I am following though the examples in Professional ASP.Net MVC 2 and one of the examples doesn't work for me.
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Edit (int id, FormCollection collection)
{
Dinner dinner = dinnerRepository.GetDinner(id);
if (TryUpdateModel(dinner))
{
dinnerRepository.Save();
return RedirectToAction("Details", new { id = dinner.DinnerID });
}
return View(new DinnerFormViewModel(dinner));
}
I understand that it's suppose to take the values from the FormCollection, and then update the dinner object with it, bit I don't see the collection get referenced anywhere.

Ok forced to use IIS7.5( begin puke puke puke end) and of course nothing works. Let's take it from start.I created a project and i started IIS7 and created a new website,added the host and checked the security permissions of the folders.I saw most of the features are done automatically so thought this won't work the first time.
I looked at the application pool and changed it to use 32 bit app's (it is a vs2008 app on server 2008 64),i cannot enable isapi but i don't know if it's needed.What else,ehm,checked authentication for anonym also ip address was left to any,ah and changed the port (it's not running on 80) and also checked the binding's set to that port and also used 80 port + myport for a test and also 80 alone just to piss me off more.
Let me state here that the same application works perfect on IIS6 with just using the host i want and my port and of course changing the security.
Also the 2008 log is very useful, showing logs of 3 hours ago. So is it something i must do or the admin messed the dns redirection to this machine.

I have a listview in which I use a pager control. When I have more than 1 item in the list view, I want the user to be able to click on the appropriate page number and go to it. Simple right?, right now the first time the user clicks on the page number, nothing changes. If they click on it again, it goes right to the page. It doesn't matter what page they click on, it ALWAYS requires a second click to display the data item.
I am using VS2010 C# as the code behind.

I know that UpdateProgress doesn't work with PostBackTrigger, but let me explain what i'm trying:
I'm generating a PDF document (Crystal Report) with ExportToHttpResponse that will be downloaded automaticaly by the browser.
So while the document is been generated, i'd like to show the UpdateProgress just while i'm waiting the doc is being generated, doing the UpdateProgress(or some label) to disappear.
