C# - Read Validation Message From External Library?

Jul 26, 2010

I created a Global Resource file for Error messages and I am attaching the associated message to the validator control as following.

<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RVTest"
CssClass="ErrorMessage" runat="server"
ErrorMessage="<%$ Resources:ErrorMessage, RequiredFieldTestKey %>"
ControlToValidate="ReqFldTestTextbox"> </asp:RequiredFieldValidator>

This is working fine.

Now I am planning to move all the Global Resources to a different library let say MyResourceLibrary and created a resource file with name ErrorMessage. I have added the reference of the library to my ASP.NET project and trying to acces the message from my library as follwong.

<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RVTest"
CssClass="ErrorMessage" runat="server"
ErrorMessage="<%$ Resources: MyResourceLibrary.ErrorMessage, RequiredFieldTestKey %>"
ControlToValidate="ReqFldTestTextbox"> </asp:RequiredFieldValidator>

But this is not working.

Architecture :: How To Add Reference To External Library

Sep 9, 2010

I have a Class Library Project that I'm using in another Web application project. I've noticed that this has just copied the Class Library DLL into the Bin folder of the Web Application, and also that if I make some changes to the Class Library and rebuild the project, I also have to rebuild the Web Application for the changes to take effect there.

This kind of defeats the object why I'm creating a Class Library as I'm hoping to put some generic functionality in there that will be available to a number of different web applications.

Can A Web.config Read From An External Xml File

Mar 9, 2010

I have to duplicate some settings (like connection string) between a web.config file that a WCF host uses and a web.config file that a web client uses.

In the interest of not duplicating, can I have both the web.configs read from a separate xml file? The two web.configs can be entirely in different solutions/projects so I guess this is not possible, but wanted to get other's opinion.

PS: I do understand I can use a database to store all the config settings.

MVC :: Validation From The Enterprise Library?

Sep 13, 2010

I have a question about validation. Basically how the MVC framework is setup it can use DataAnnotations. It calls TryValidate in a controller which does some other black magic, and poof, you have a ModelState with validation results. Now to extend this validation you can create a validator and then provide custom validation on both server and client side. Here is the problem... what if you dont want to hard code all of the validation in the classes? I would like to use what Microsoft has already provided in the Enterprise Library [URL]for validation. I will be using both DataAnnotations and configured rule sets. Of course I could just put the code in each action, but that is so 1999. As I see it the MVC framework falls short by not allowing us to use the config for such things. Why is the validation so specific for MVC? Why could it now have used the Enterprise Validation? I wrote my own abstract controller and put in Enterprise Library validation and it worked GREAT!!! So why am I here? Well, surly there must be a better way... do I really have to write my own controller abstract class to change the validation?

So if you think you know how to solve this problem, you must provide a solution that does this:

Uses DataAnnotations AND Configuration RulesCan validate the SAME in a console application (could really be any non-web app) and MVCI do see that MVC 3 adds a little more support for validation which was really needed. It supports IValidatableObject, which allows you to validate the whole Model... its nice, but now we have 3 ways to do that same thing... granted the former 2 (DataAnnotation on the class, and a Validator for the DataAnnotation) could not pass the error to the correct place in the view. Now if we could just support all of this validation in a place what any type of application could use it. In my use case I will run validation on the MVC app, perhaps some other apps, and on an ESB.

Web Forms :: CDO.Message Object Error Loading Type Library / DLL

Jan 8, 2010

It has a part where it sends new users their first password in email.. and yes I'm getting that annoying cannot access CDO.Message object error traced back to the "Error loading type library/DLL" message. but I remember that it used to work fine with my old computer I started the development on.

1. It isn't a permission error.. like most cases (tried granting admin access to the ASPNET user)

2. I have the required dll files registered (checked them several times and even reinstalled them a few times)

3. Tried putting only that piece of code in a new application to be able to experiment.. Started commenting out blocks of code until it finally "worked" (I didn't get the error). So it seems like I only get the error if I add a mail field (which is bad since I need those for authentication..)

Validate A Single Property With The Fluent Validation Library For .Net

May 17, 2010

Can you validate just a single property with the Fluent Validation Library, and if so how? I thought this discussion thread from January of 2009 showed me how to do it via the following syntax:

validator.Validate(new Person(), x => x.Surname);

Unfortunately it doesn't appear this works in the current version of the library. One other thing that led me to believe that validating a single property might be possible is the following quote from Jeremy Skinners' blog post:

"Finally, I added the ability to be able to execute some of FluentValidation's Property Validators without needing to validate the entire object. This means it is now possible to stop the default "A value was required" message from being added to ModelState. "

However I do not know if that necessarily means it supports just validating a single property or the fact that you can tell the validation library to stop validating after the first validation error.

Read An External JSON File Using Json.NET On Page Load?

Dec 29, 2010

I have a text file named gisQuery129.json that is created using Json.NET - [URL] There is an example on how to create a JSON file and I have done that successfully, but I want to read the file on a page load event and add the values to .NET textbox controls for input values in a query. The created file looks like the following:

{
"myData": {
"randomNumber": "129",
"Application": "MyMapApp",
"FeatureId": "ALL",
"Feature": "ALL",
"spatialQuery": "FEATURE_ID= '11111' AND REQ_SEQ_NUM= 1 AND RAND_PARAM= 129 OR FEATURE_ID= '22222' AND REQ_SEQ_NUM= 2 AND RAND_PARAM= 129"
}
}

I want to read the data in the above sample JSON data and then populate my textboxes something like this:

txtRandParam.text = "129"
txtApplication.text = "MyMapApp" and three more text boxes after that.

Unable To Read Config Settings From External Config Files

Sep 1, 2010

We are experiencing some strange behaviour on one of our ASP.NET web servers (Windows 2003 64-bit). After some activity, two third-party controls are unable to run correctly. One is log4net (it does not write error messages out) and the other is a menu control (it displays eval message instead of picking up its license). The one common thread is that both controls pick up their config from external config files (linked to from web.config).

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this or experienced this in any way. Is it related to file/folder rights? The server has been running fine for a while and just started exhibiting this behaviour. Perhaps it occurs around the time the worker processes are recycled.

WCF / ASMX :: Read And Modify Soap Message (Programmatically)?

Apr 1, 2011

I have a web service running somewhere... I have added a reference of the same in my project. I had used SOAP UI to check the outgoing and incoming SOAP messages.

Now what i need is to MODIFY the SOAP message after it has been created (I wont be creating the soap message manually,) modify as in, I mean to insert some element into the header (such as public key etc) and encrypt the contents present in the body.

I have tried a lot of googling and have come to conclusion that i may have to use the SoapExtension Class.But i just dont understand how to do it.

There are method like ProcessMessage(... which require SoapMessage as input parameter. Now how to read
a generated SoapMessage is still unclear to me. I dont want to read the Soap message using tools (fiddler, soapui etc). I wish to read it programmatically.

The Summary list will however be shown first when the form has been validated.I need both the ValidationMessageFor and the ValidationSummary to be shown only when the form has ben validated.
