A DataListis rendered with <table> or <span> tags, which I don't want.I've set RepeatLayout="Flow" but that still gives me spans.I've set RepeaterDirection="Horizontal" but that still give me the tables.how can i get a simple datalist without all the spans tables?

I have asp.net label called NumberLabel.It is changed from codebehind(asp.net/c#) by calculating the number of rows in an sql server table called "MyTable". Every time a user open this page,the same code/stored procedure is executed to bring the number. Is there a way to to bring the same number for all users and change it only when there is an update in "MyTable".this will optimize a lot time,executions,(SQL server side and webserver side).Does asynchrounous c# exist?or doing that by ajax.

But if the Div ID is embedded within a DataList control(below), XXX becomes unrecogined in code-behind:

I am drawing a grid using HTML and each tr element has it's own id. I want to be able to remove a tr on a button click, but not have to redraw the whole grid to show that the row has been deleted. I can do this using .hide(), but the problem is that I need to call a function to stripe my rows after, and since the row is still considered there, the striping doesn't work properly.

I've also heard recommendations to use these as opposed to tables and would therefore like to familiarize myself with them properly (as opposed guessing how they work as I have been recently).

Is there some way other then keeping track of the # of columns in the table manually for me to set the colspan to be # of all the columns in the table-1? Preferably a HTML or CSS solution?

Let's say I wanted to find the name of a book that has the tag 'clowns' in it...how can I do this? 'clowns' is a substring of the tag for 'title1'...but how do I search for substrings? I have tried to use the "LIKE" keyword but obviously it doesn't work in this situation.

i have created a aspx page with the script manager, update panels and so on. Now, when i use some jquery functions which are included inside the head tags, when the page is run, i find the script tags generated inside the body instead of the head tag. i'm using visual studio 2005 only.

The problem with this,is that the regex does not distinguish between nested tags.Here is a sample of how I implemented this method:

Is there a way to apply your own CSS tags to <li> tags when using ASP .NET 4.0 menu control? For example, say I have an external style sheet that has tags "class1", "class2", "class3", and etc. I want to apply "class1" to the first menu item. Then if menu item is selected, I want to apply "class2" and if it's not selected, "class3". I played with various 'Static' styles, but just can't get it work. I finally gave up and created my own menu control that extends ASP .NET menu control and provides my own custom rendering. This works, but I'm wondering if there is a way to get it work with built-in menu control.
View 1 RepliesI have a page that uses a MasterPage. On this page, I have a DataList, which has a table. I assigned an ID to that table. I want to modify the properties of that table in my Code Behind. I'm having trouble accessing the ID using "FindControl". I've tried the following:
Dim MyTable as Table = DirectCast(DataList1.FindControl("MyTable"), Table)
I've tried accessing it via the ContentPlaceHolder ID..
Dim ContentPlaceHolder1 as ContentPlaceHolder = DirectCast(Master.FindControl(ContentPlaceHolder1), ContentPlaceHolder)

I'm sure the answer is probably obvious, but I am not seeing it.
I am using an MS SQL Database with a table that has a DateTime column stored in it.
When I try to bind the data inside this table to a GridView and/or DataList the date shows up as (for example) '2010-03-03T00:00:00+01:00'.
In my GridView I tried to format that datetime by using the following 'BoundField' tag;
<asp:BoundField DataField="NewsDateEntered" HeaderText="Date Entered" DataFormatString = "{0:dd/MM/yyyy}" HtmlEncode="False" />
This is still wielding no results and I have tried to recreate the table and so on.
I am using this code to fill my datalist:

It works and fills the datalist with the whole table. When this page opens the address bar is like [URL].Ii would like the datalist to show all contents in the table with this specific thread ID.
