C# - Silverlight Cannot See Webservice Class?

Mar 27, 2011

I have created a basic asmx webservice helloworld. In Winform I have added it as Webreference

and called it like this (Hello being a class inside the Webservice of course):

MyWebserviceReference.Hello hello = MyWebserviceReference.Hello();

Visual Studio 2010 accepts it.

If I do the same thing with Silverlight in the same solution referencing the same webservice, it does recognize MyWebserviceReference but not the Hello Class it says am I missing a reference to an Assembly. Why in Silverlight and not in Winform ? How to fix this ? Is there something more to do in Silverlight than in Winform than just adding a reference to the webservice ?

C# - Webservice Complex Types And Class Inheritance - Use The Properties Of The Base Class?

Mar 13, 2010

Using the following Webservice definition using aClientArgs as a complex type:

[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService]
public class Controller : System.Web.Services.WebService {
[WebMethod]
public void save_client(aClientArgs client)
{
// Save client data
}
}
Then defining aClientArgs as a sub-class:
public class aArgs
{
public string id = null;
public string name = null;
}
public class aClientArgs : aArgs
{
public string address = null;
public string website = null;
}
Returns the following WSDL fragment for the save_client args:
<save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">
<client>
<address>string</address>
<website>string</website>
</client>
</save_client>
When I'm expecting the following:
<save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">
<client>
<id>string</id>
<name>string</name>
<address>string</address>
<website>string</website>
</client>
</save_client>

So it appears that the .NET WebService is not treating inherited properties as arguments/variables for purposes of a web service. How do I get .NET to also use the properties of the base class?

C# - Calling Stateful Unmanaged C++ Class From .NET Webservice?

Dec 7, 2010

I've inherited a half completed application that seems to use a model that I'm not sure can reliably work.It is a ASP.NET webservice that on each call loads a unmanaged C++ .DLL using

[DllImport ( "kernel32.dll" , EntryPoint = "LoadLibraryA" )]
public static extern int LoadLibrary( string lpLibFileName );.
[DllImport(@"MyUnamanagedDLL.dll")]
public static extern string DoStuff( );

In the unmanaged C++ .dll it is using a singleton to hold state between calls.This is so that it only has to initialise once and load a bunch of slow stuff from disk and database rather than on each webservice call as this is too slow.

WCF / ASMX :: Default Values Specified To Class, Does Not Persist When Consumed From Webservice

Jul 29, 2010

I have web service with reference of BO library in same application. My BO contains classes with some private members and respective public properties.

All of these private members had default values in a perticular class say Contact.cs.Now when I consume this webservice into Windows Application, these already assinged values to BO does not persists in the Windows Application code.

Is there any limitation such that you can serialize the default values assosiated with private members ?

Even I have tried to assign these values directly to the properties in a constructor of Contact class.

How To Pass FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie From Data Access Layer Class To WebService To JavaScript

Jan 29, 2010

I am using DotNetOpenAuth in my ASP.Net Website. I have modified it to work with Facebook Connect as well, using the same methods and database structures. Now I have come across a problem.

I have added a Facebook Connect button to a login page. From that HTML button, I have to somehow pull information from the Facebook Connect connection and pass it into a method to authenticate the user. The way I am currently doing this is by:

Calling a Javascript Function on the onlogin function of the FBML/HTML Facebook Connect button. The javascript function calls a Web service to login, which it does correctly. The web service calls my data access layer to login. And here is the problem: FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie is set at the data access layer. The Cookie is beyond the scope of the user's page and therefore is not set in the browser. This means that the user is authenticated, but the user's browser is never notified. So, I need to figure out if this is a bad way of doing what I need or if there is a better way to accomplish what I need. I am just not sure and have been trying to find answers for hours.

Error CS0029: Cannot Implicitly Convert Type Media.WebService.multiValuedAttribute To Media.WebService.multiValuedAttribute[]

Aug 5, 2010

In Visual Studio 2008 I have a Class Library project (called Media) to which I added a Web Reference (not a Service Reference) to a third-party web service (wsdl). In the Class Library project a proxy class is created for using the service along with several classes for the types used in that service.

I also have a second Class Library (called Sync) that references the first one. And then I have a Web Site project that references the second class library. All of this is .NET 3.5

So Web Site > Class Library (Sync) > Class Library with web service reference (Media)

I want to step into the generated code, so I fire up the web site in IIS 7.5 and trigger the call to a method in the second class library (Sync) that in turn should call the web service proxy. I was fully expecting to hit the breakpoint, but instead got an exception:

Unable to generate a temporary class(result=1). error CS0029: Cannotimplicitly convert type Media.WebService.multiValuedAttribute to Media.WebService.multiValuedAttribute[]

Why is ASP.NET trying to generate a temporary class? Don't I already have the generated class from the first Class Library (Media)?

Mvc - Can Set A Custom Class As The Default Base Class For Controllers In MVC3

I'd like to inherit all my controllers from a custom base class that I write myself. I can change the line every time I add a new controller, but it would be nicer if I could somewhere specify the default value that gets set there. That way I wouldn't need to worry about forgetting this, and other people who get added to the project later on would have an easier time.

MVC :: Trying To Setup A Base Product Class That Will Be Inherited By A More Specific Class Later?

Dec 16, 2010

In my MVC project, I am trying to setup a base product class that will be inherited by a more specific class later. Here is my scenario. I have a table called ProductBase, it contains three fields, BaseProductId(PK), CatalogNum, and ListPrice. Every product in the system will share these attributes. Next, I have a table called Shirt, with three fields BaseProductId(PK, FK), Color, and Size.

I then setup an Entity Data Model that pulled in both of these tables and created classes BaseProduct and Shirt. So, in my model, I want to do something like this:

[Code]....

The main problem I have with this, is that if I do any kind of condition on CatalogNum or ListPrice, then my performance goes to crap. One of the main things we will want to do is something like this:

[Code]....

This takes an enormous performance hit, and I suspect it is because the partial class above returns to the database for each shirt.

The other problem I have with this approach, is that I cannot force the properties for the Shirt. What if I make a change to the BaseProduct? What happens when I have multiple product types, will I have to repeat this code? I assume I will need to make a change with the entity data model, but I am unsure where to begin.

How To Access Label In Parent Class Of Code Behind Class

For showing errors I want to put showMessage funtion in PageBase as well so that I may have not put it in every page and it will easy to manage this way.

Probem is that how PageBase class will access a control which is in aspx page in its child class (child class of PageBase) .

I dont want to pass control as argument to function in parent class, is ther any other way ?

Getting Child Class Type From Parent Class Parameter In C#

Jul 6, 2010

I am going to have multiple "types" of an object and I am really not sure how best to retrieve/save those multiple types without having a separate save/retrieve for each type.

My classes:

[Code]....

I hope this makes sense. I'd rather not add a "type" column as I have this in another part of my database and I am not really liking it too much

UPDATE

Here's more info/questions for clarification, if necessary.

I'm really at a loss for how to incorporate them into my repository pattern.

When I call getEvaluation, I want it to return an abstract Evaluation, but I'm struggling with this code. Same with Saving - any insight on this would be excellent

UPDATE 2

Database:
Evaluations
Id (PK)
Comment
EvaluationType1
Id (FK to Evaluations.Id)
Field
EvaluationType1
Id (FK to Evaluations.Id)
Field

So, in getEvaluation(int id), I need to figure out what type of Evaluation they want. Does this mean I should pass in a type? Same is true in saveEvaluation, But I can do a switch/function map to see what Type it is.

C# - Store Class Instance (helper Class) In Cache?

Jun 30, 2010

I have a class instance which is created by using Activator.CreateInstance() method. That class instance contains helper methods which are frequently used throughout the application. In order to avoid creating the instance multiple times, I'm just thinking about implementing an appropriate caching mechanism. The following consideration should be taken into account:

1) I can't use static class and methods.
2) There are around 6 instances (1 instance per class) per App Domain.
