How To Pass FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie From Data Access Layer Class To WebService To JavaScript
Jan 29, 2010
I am using DotNetOpenAuth in my ASP.Net Website. I have modified it to work with Facebook Connect as well, using the same methods and database structures. Now I have come across a problem.
I have added a Facebook Connect button to a login page. From that HTML button, I have to somehow pull information from the Facebook Connect connection and pass it into a method to authenticate the user. The way I am currently doing this is by:
Calling a Javascript Function on the onlogin function of the FBML/HTML Facebook Connect button. The javascript function calls a Web service to login, which it does correctly. The web service calls my data access layer to login. And here is the problem: FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie is set at the data access layer. The Cookie is beyond the scope of the user's page and therefore is not set in the browser. This means that the user is authenticated, but the user's browser is never notified. So, I need to figure out if this is a bad way of doing what I need or if there is a better way to accomplish what I need. I am just not sure and have been trying to find answers for hours.
here i have in 3-tier architecture , how to pass the data between DAL and BAL. i am using grid view to edit the data, when ever i click on the edit button all the corresponding fields should come to textboxes. i tried for delete ,it works fine bt not working to EDIT.
i have created a custom principal class, and a custom Identity.
named SystemIdentity and SystemPrincipal.
SystemIdentity class has some additional properties ( UserID, UserName, Age, ...)
in my Global.asax file I changed PostAuthenticateRequest event as bottom
....
i wonder theese questions answer now:
1. where i can assign the additional properties of SystemIdentity ( UserID, UserName, Age, ...) 2. which Identity is Authenticated by FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie? is my custom Identity, or GenericIdentity?
Problem: I am using FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(UserId, False)[Snip]Response.Redirect("~/login_pages/home2.aspx") ' Force round trip so that logon works OK to logon a user. It all works fine with other browsers, and IE7 provided that IE7's PRIVACY (originally I had written "Security") setting is Low. However it doesn't work when the PRIVACY setting is Medium (the default).
How do I solve this problem? I would have expected that FormsAuthentication.Authenticate(Userid, password) was the solution, but this doesn't seem to work at all.
I'm having a difficult challenge of passing a DropDownList Selected Value to a Data Layer having a Function containing 'cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CourseDDLid", CoursesDDL.SelectedValue.ToString)'. Visual Studio is indicating I need to declare 'CoursesDDL'. I tried accessing the 'Find Control' method but it did not work. Below are the codes for your review.
I am building a web site following the tutorials on asp.net. I am using dataset as data access lay, and writing classes to access the dataset. But the example is just basic ideas, how do I retrieve individual table column value in the business layer? For example, if I have a table called Product, I only want to find out what is the product name by product id. I did this in my ProductBLL:
public ProductBLL { public int GetProductName(string productId) { ProductDataSet.ProductDataTable prodData = Adapter.GetProductById(productId);
...
Is there a better way, or am I doing this correctly? Can anybody give me a reference to a more complicated business logic model?
I am new to this .NET what is the difference between N-Tier and 3- Tier Architecture. If they are same. How to pass the values from presentation layer to business logic layer.
For Example
I have 10 controls in presentation layer. I passing values to these controls. How the architecture works.
I've been attempting to walk through the "Creating a Data Access Layer" tutorial found I create the DB connection, create the typed dataset and table adapter, specify the sql, etc. When I add the code to the presentation layer (in this case a page called AllProducts.aspx) I am unable to find the NorthwindTableAdapters.ProductsTableAdapter class. I tried to import the NorthwindTableAdapters namespace, but it is not showing up. Looking in the solution explorer Class View confirms that there is a Northwind class, but not the namespace I'm l ooking for. I've tried several online tutorials that all have essentially the same steps, and I'm getting the same results.
My repositories throw exceptions (System.Exception) when some things go bad and I know this is bad practice.. so i will create a custom exception (DataException). My question is should this custom ex class be in the repository layer or the domain layer? Im thinking it should be in Domain layer where all business objects and repository interfaces live but just want to make sure.
i have websrvice class in this i declared a webmethod and a public property my problem is i want to acess service class public property in my asp.net web application after creating proxy object.
I know i've seen a tutorial for this, but can't locate it anymore. I have a class Employee in c# side, I also have a webservice where I pass in an ID# and an Employee object is returned. Now I want this object returned to Javascript code, I know I've seen it done before, can someone point me to a tutorial that shows something like this being done. I'm using the MicrosoftAjax.js file.
After watching learning guide in accessing Web Service from JavaScript I was doing the same thing in order to test it. And found out that in my JavaScript I don't have any WebService in my IntelliSense. Such thing happens if I create WebService and WebSite either in one common solution or in the different.
I'm trying to pass a javascript object array back to a vb .asmx web service.
I can't even tell you how many different things I've tried, so i'm confused more than when I started. Below is an example of the client side code I am using.
....
I'm adding my script reference in my vb page as follows, and can access other web methods fine.
....
how to be able to access these objects within the web service method. I need to be able to iterate though all the people from the javascripts array so that I can do some other functions, such as validation, adding them to a database, etc.
I'm new to web dev. and I'm using asp.net/C# to build a website. I currently have a class called DataLayer that I'm using to perform all of my database functions, and also store some queried information. I initially had this class as static, because that's how I wanted it to behave, but then realized that will be all kinds of bad for multiple users.
I have to make an instance out of this class in order to use it, but I need to maintain the same instance throughout several webpages for that user. Any thoughts or ideas on how to go about this approach? How to pass this object from page to page? Store in session variable, as a global object somehow?
In old style i used to return datasets to BOL (From DAL) and then to Website. but in 3.5 is there any new way to construct DAL. i heard about returning List<> is better than DataSet. I Got to build new DAL for my new project. if i should go for List <> aprroach can i use Linq to Sql technique or shall i go for execute dataset (using applicatio block libraries) and then fill data in List<> prior to return it back to BOL.
I am developing a web application in Visualt Studio 2008. I have a data access layer that is automatically generated using Visual Studio. After publising my site to IIS and tested it for several hours, two exceptions occured:
....
The connection string is stored in the data access layer in Properties.Settings and has not changed.Does anyone have a clue why these exceptions occur and how i can avoid them?
