How To Create A Submitable Form That Contains Dynamically Added And Removed Controls

May 20, 2010

I am trying to create a form that is made up of controls with values that represent an entity with multiple child entities.

The form will represent a product with multiple properties where the user will then be able to create options with multiple properties which in turn be able to create multiple option-items with multiple properties.

My question is what is the best approach? Can i use ajax to avoid postbacks and having to rewrite the controls to the page? If i dynamically add the controls in the form of table rows or grid rows will the data/control values be available in the code-behind when i submit?

This is an age old question.. the last time i had to do this was .Net 2.0, pre-ajax (for me) and i was forced to recreate all the controls on each post back.

I have about 10 different objects that get populated from user input. Instead of creating 10 different view pages, is there a way to dynamicaly generate the input form and have only one view page? What I am looking for is a run-time solution like the form generator in visual studio when you "Add View".

MVC :: Can Dynamically Add Or Remove Inputs On The Form

Feb 4, 2011

do have a very particular question and if you want to answer it go straight to the end. But I do welcome comments and advices hence the lengthy post. we deal with a lot of forms and some of these forms are quite lengthy and have many fields. We also have a requirement - in addition to top level fields - to be able to have variable number of repating rows - as we call them. For example, let's think of a customer which has name, surname and age while it can have zero or many addresses (say 0 to 10) so the user must be able to add or remove contacts from the form while filling it in.

MVC :: What's The Best Way To Create Form Fields Dynamically

Nov 14, 2010

New to .net and revamping a project from classic. In short, I am trying to create all the form fields in the view based on the database and want to figure out the best practice for .net. I've tried a few things but none seem very clean.

So basically select all the fields and data from the database and loop through each record creating the field type(text, drop down ect)/name/onchange event ect along with creating the basic layout, like putting in a column or group a set related fields.

I see how it can be done in the view itself, but there is a bunch of logic required that would be better suited for a function or class more than a bunch of if then elses in the view itself.

Just for context, it's for a real estate investment management project. So there are over 1000 fields that represent information on a house. What the end user see's is based on their choices and their security. Also, all the fields save with the onchange event which is tied to the name of the field. So everything is dynamic.

MVC :: Dynamically Change The Content Of The Form?

Dec 18, 2010

From ASP.NET Webforms I am used to change the content of the form dynamically during the postback. During the postback I can add textboxes, dropdownlists on the form. But I did not find anything similiar in MVC.

My problem is that I have a form a I would like to change the elements on the form programatically - the user selects the radiobutton or change the selection of the dropdown list and I would like to add some textboxes and so on the form = I would like to react on the user inputs dynamically.

Dynamically Created HTML Form

Dec 6, 2011

I am beginning to write a dynamically generated, database driven form. It will be split into several sections, each section having a "next" button, that will save the current section and proceed to the next.

Ive not begun yet but as its generated dynamically this will all be on the same page and either postback, or redirect to itself and the questions will be loaded into a repeater, choosing the input type based on whatever in the database.

My problem is that one section of the form works slightly differently.

I need to ask all the names and birthdates of everyone who lives with you, so I would need the form fields, an input button and then when pressed save the data and load into a repeater, which will have its own delete button as itemcommand.

Javascript - Dynamically Change Form Post URL?

Aug 24, 2010

I want to make the results of an ASP.NET form POST "bookmarkable", and I'm thinking of using query parameters to accomplish this. The idea is that a user will visit http://domath.com and they will type in a math problem, and view the results. The query and results are visible at http://domath.com?ProblemID={some guid here}The only part I don't really know is how do I change the target of the form URL since I'm using a POST instead of a GET..Here are the options I came up with, and I'm not sure what is practicalSubmit form as usual, server redirects to a URL with the new parameters attached Use a webservice or callback to get new URL. Javascript then updates form target

Web Forms :: Dynamically Change ContentPlaceHolder On Form Load?

Oct 29, 2010

I have quite a simple requirement, but strangely can't seem to find anything relevant & I'm not able to currently get it to work. I have created a master page with a a page header and footer, and left two contentplaceholders in it, one to add to the <head> html tag and one in the <body>. The idea is that users can then easily change the content or title of a page in a table without having to open an IDE of any kind.

The result is my page template looks like this:

[Code]....

Basically, I want the user to be able to paste all of their HTML into a DB table, and I will pull it out and put it into these placeholders. Most methods I've seen involve using extra controls, but surely there is a way to just enter text (that will be html) between the <asp:Content></asp:Content> tags on the Page_Load event?

Web Forms :: In The Aspx.cs Of The Form - How To Create A Table Dynamically In SQL Server

I put this in the aspx.cs of the form I am doing, but, since I haven't found a way to call variables from the ASP, I recreated them, still, even if I did get those, this problem would still exist:

private void DrawPicture(Bitmap bitmap)

System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image PictureFinger;
int PictureFingerW = 248; [code]....

The ImageURL doesn't take the image, but the URL. So, how can I save the image into a variable?

Web Forms :: Attaching A Dynamically Created Checkbox To The Server Side Form?

Jul 29, 2010

I am trying to allow for multiple selection check boxes that are created dynamically.

The Following code is written for each row in the dataTable (I print it as HTML code)

<input type='checkbox' name='multiCheck' id='chk{1}' value='{1}' runat='server'/>

however, on the server side (after postback) I can't read them from the Request Object. How do I "mark" them so I can read them at the postback?

protected void DeleteSelection_Click(object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e)
{
int multiIdsToDelete = Request.Form["multiCheck"]; <-- In the Future will be added to an array so I can do the delete for each row selected.
}

C# - How To Isolate The Form Controls In A Web User Control From The Rest Of The Page's Form Controls

May 25, 2010

I have a Web User Control I created for authentication. The web user control is inside the box below. Clicking any button (1 or 2) below works correct as it goes to the correct c# button click event in the code behind file. If I press enter on fields a or b it goes to the correct callback (button1's) if I press enter on field c it still goes to button1's callback, not button2's

How can I give my web user control a nice self contained for and view state etc, so it wont mess with the remainder of the page's form?

User: __a___
Pass: __b___
[button1]

Cannot Find Selected Value Of Dynamically Added Controls In Repeater / How To Dynamically Add The Controls

Jan 11, 2011

I am creating a survey page that has a list of questions and answers that can be radiobuttonlists, checkboxlists or textboxes. These controls are added dynamically to a Repeater in its ItemDataBound event using Controls.Add.

I've managed to render the page ok but when I submit the form and iterate over the controls in the repeater to get the selectedvalues of the radiobuttons and textbox values, FindControl returns null. What do I need to do to get get the selected values? I've tried iterating over the RepeaterItems but that returned null too. I've tried different types of FindControl but it never resolves the control types.

It works if I add a declarative DataBinder in the Repeater like this

<asp:Repeater ID="rptSurvey" runat="server" Visible="true" EnableViewState="true" >
<ItemTemplate>
<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Question") %>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>

However, I want want to dynamically add the controls but in doing this i cant get the selectedvalues when submitting. This is tha main structure of my code...

Web Forms :: Use Dynamically Created Controls Such As A Checkbox List And Fill The Values Dynamically?

Sep 28, 2010

I'm creating an quiz application which queries the database and extracts the questions and choices. I use dynamically created controls such as a checkbox list and fill the values dynamically. How do I do this? Right now I have these functions:

array_random_init(); this creates a 10 element integer array from 1-20 - extract_question(i): this extracts a question indexed at i in DB, I created the controls and set the appropriate text in this function. - validate_question(i); this is called by button_click and validates the question i according to DB.

I understand I have to recreate the controls in Page_init on postback, but what should it look like? Do I need to add "if IsPostBack" in page_init, or do I create the controls in page_init() and reset their properties in page_load when I use extract_question(i)? Also, I cannot seem to clear the selected boxes on postback, I added page directive "enableviewstate=false" but it doesn't work.

C# - Dynamically Update Attributes Of ASP Controls Dynamically?

Sep 2, 2010

In my aspx page, I have a number of drop down controls. I would like to update an attribute on each of the controls with "class=leftColumn" with the following line: propertyID.Attributes["nameOfAttribute"] = "false";
But instead of manually writing out each controlID and setting its attribute with the line above, I had hoped there was a way to go through and set the attribute on each control ID if it had class=leftcolumn. This is something I know is very easy with JQuery, BUT I need to do it with the code behind (C#) I was told this is not possible (i.e. to acquire a list of all the controls and then iterate through the list and give it the attribute or any other way. That manually setting each control like the above example is the only way in ASP.NET.
