C# - Combine Multiple DataViews Into A Single One?
Mar 3, 2010
I have 4 different select statements which i sequently assign to an sqlDataSource like this:
sqlNoutatiProduse.SelectCommand = select;
and i keep the results in different DataViews like
MySession.Current.dataViewNoutatiProduse1 = (System.Data.DataView)sqlNoutatiProduse.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty);
Is it possible to combine into a single DataView the results of these queries?

I've created a service (class library) that uses a few other class libraries within its solution.
When I try to use this service dll in a website the system requires me to also deploy all of the child dlls of the service to the website.
I'd like to combine the service dll and all of its child dlls into a single dll.
I found a reference to "ILLINK" on the web as a tool that's supposed to enable this.
Is there a tool built into the .NET framework that will do this? It seems like it would be a not-uncommon requirement.

I have a repeater like so:
[Code]....
Problem is, I also want to show the viewer the available number of spots in the room. But this requires somehow pull in either the current_occupancy / max_occupancy or in performing a calculation (e.g. max_occupancy - current_occupancy = actual_available) and then returning that with the room.
The end result I'm looking for is to return each room in a button control with text that looks like this:
"Room 1 - 2 Open" "Room 8 - 1 Open" and so on

I am trying to combine two datatables into single datatable... First table contains 3 columns[e.g: 'col1','col2','col3'] Second table contains 2 columns[e.g: 'col4','col5'] Both tables have the same no.of records[rows], but different columns. How to combine them into single table? I need DataTable with columns ['col1','col2','col3','col4','col5']. I am inserting through looping the both the tables and adding values into third table. I tried the Merge (DataTable.Merge()), but it is adding the records to bottom of first one, but i need it should be added to the side[as columns] to first table'

I have a stored procedure that returns 3 tables within the single recordset it returns. If I set a SqlDataSource to get data from this procedure, it works, but it only returns the first table. I want to have a GridView display the data from the 2nd or 3rd table using a SqlDataSource, but I can't figure out how to specify a particular table.
While there are some posts discussing this out there, I can't get a definitive answer about whether or not this is even possible (?). In a worst-case scenario, I can create another SP that only returns the 3rd table - but that creates a little maintenance headache that I would prefer to avoid.

I'm fairly new to all this, but have slowly been teaching myself C# and ASP.net MVC over the past year or so...I really tried to search for this, but haven't been able to find anything - it may be I'm using the wrong terminology!I'm using ASP.NET MVC2 with EF4 connected to a SQL Express db. Situation: Without getting into too much specifics, I have one table called 'Plan.' Under 'Plan' are several different categories that are related to a single Plan item [say Category A, Category B, Category C and Category D]. Each 'Category X' table has a beginDate, endDate and other details specific to that category.
I'd like to be able to create a summary page that combines all items from Category A, Category B, Category C, and Category D and sorts by beginDate - but only need a few of the columns [eg - begin/end date, name, id].

I am writing a currency converting module for one of our applications. I have a list of products, a list of currencies we are interested in seeing prices for, and a list of currency rates. I want the user to be able to select which currencies from the list they see in the GridView. I also want to be able to amend my list of currencies and include a new currency, without having to make additional changes to this module. So my GridView display has to be "dynamic". Essentially I am planning on ending up with a GridView that has the following columns:
Part No - Description - USD Price - AUD Price - GBP Price
The USD price would be static as it's our base currency, the AUD and GBP are user selected and could have potentially any number of currencies listed. I would normally use a DataSet and DataTables for this work, but I am sure there is a "better" way to do it using System.Collections.Generics. Right now I have all of the data I need in List collections, but there does not seem to be a way to define how these collections relate to each other, or combine these collections into one so it can be bound to a GridView. Should I be looking at something other than List to achieve this or do I need to go back to my original approach of a DataSet and DataTables.
**UPDATE / SOME CODE**
I will explain a little bit more about what I have setup so far.
1) List of Products & Currencies - These come from an SQL DB via LINQ, so they can be any of the System.Collections.Generics objects, e.g. List, IEnumerable etc.
2) Currency Rates - These I am pulling from the European Bank public XML file. I download the file, strip the data I need out of it and currently store that as a List object.
I could store the currency rates in the database table as well, but then I have to have some sort of background process that goes and updates the rates each day. This way the rates only get updated when someone accesses the report function (which is only going to happen occasionally). So I would rather grab the latest rates "on demand". What I know I need to end up with is some object that has the following structure:
PartNo - Description - Base Price - Currency Price 1, Currency Price 2, Currency Price 3
Where the number of Currency Prices is undefined, as it's based on what currencies the user wants the report to display. It's the undefined part that I am struggling with, essentially how can I create a structured object, that I don't know the complete structure of until runtime?

I have a form with many form fields and controls, with some offering an "other" if a value does not meet the needs for the user. How can I bind the sql insert so that it will take the ddl selection along with the txt field selection for the "other" value? Even if the txt field is empty it should not be a big deal since the ddl would provide something other than null. Since the column in the db does not allow nulls. I'm using asp.net (vb) 3.5 sp1

This question is for wrapping up work on a database driven AJAX AutoComplete Control that I am using to provide keyword hints to user on search pages. Each record has 6 columns for keywords where each column is for an advertiser to add a keyword. These are used in meta keywords tags, but I also want to use them for AutoComplete. The problem is that I don't know how to write a SELECT statement in Visual Studio that treats all 6 keyword columns as if they were all one column. I am looking for something like
SELECT (keyword1 + keyword2 + keyword3) AS Keywords
FROM (Merchandise)
WHERE Keywords LIKE @term
The only other thing I can think of the gain this level of functionality would be to combine them into a new table.

In a typical business application, a session is started and persisted across several pages. It is commited only when the transaction is complete. A good example of this is a tax preparation application. Once the session is started, it is persisted through session, cookies, or both. Nothing is written to file, or database, until the entire profile is complete and the refund/return is calculated. In such an ennvironment, is makes a great deal of sense to work with the structure imposed by domain driven design, and using a single repository to simple commit the session. However, there are times when this doesn't translate correctly, even when domain driven design is used.
An example of this is my forum project. While the entities themselves are good targets for domain driven design, I am not sure about the repositories. The basic structure is that a Category has many Forums, a Forum has many Threads, and a Thread has many posts. There are other things in there, but that's enough to describe what I want to get across. If a user has navigated to /Thread/Edit/42, and they have rights to edit it, all I am concerned about is fetching that record and displaying it. On postback, all I want is to be able to save it..................
