C# - Control Placement Of Control In Code Behind?
Apr 19, 2010
Is it possible to control the placement of a generated control in asp .net 2.0 (c#)?
So for example in my page_load I create a new Panel() and then do Form.Controls.Add(pnl). However I'm finding it renders right at the end of the form.
I would like it rendering as the first element in the form.

I have several checkbox controls on my web form that are not server controls (runat="server") How can I access these controls form my C# code? Can this be done with document.GetelementById from the server side using C#? Or some other technique?
I am not allowed to make these server controls (runat=server) because of a requirement.

Setting value in html control in code behind without making server control
<input type="text" name="txt" />
<%--Pleas note I don't want put runat=server here to get the control in code behind--%>
<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" OnClick="Button1_Click" />
Code behind
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!Page.IsPostBack)
{
//If I want to initlize some value in input, how can I set here
}
}
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Request["txt"] // Here I am getting the value of input
}

Essentially I am using a login control, and I changed it so I can add a radio button into the control. So in short I have
[Code]....
I am always getting a null exception error. Is there a way that to get that radio button list control without recursively going through all the controls in my Login Control? I prefer not to implement that solution given possible speed ramifications and coding ettiquete.

I've the Javascript code to do a confirmation before deletion of some records
function confirmDelete()
{
if(confirm('Delete all?'))
{
return true;
}
else
{
return false;
}
}
I've the button code here
<asp:Button ID="btnDelete" runat="server" onClientClick="return confirmDelete();" onClick="btnDelete_click" />
If i've the button outside an update panel (basically i'm using RadAjaxPanel by Telerik) it is working fine. But when the button is inside an ajax panel, even if i click OK for deleting the records the server side code is not called.

I have a master page that links to a CSS. I have read several blog posts regarding "liquid design" in an attempt to place my footer below the content. I have not been able to make this work thus far. Here is a snippet of code. The footer, which is defined as an element in the linked CSS, contimues to reside above the two columns. I think that the problem lies in the placement of my <div> tags but I believe that I have tried all possible variations and still the footer remains near the top of my page.

I have a custom DDL that lives in my Server control library. Currently I add this control to a table by strongly typing the name of the control, the customary way.
Control_Library.Report_NumberDDL newDDL = new Control_Library.Report_NumberDDL();
What I want to be able to do is dynamically create that control by pulling the control name from a table. So I would have the name of the control in my code, in this case "Report_NumberDDL", and I would like to then create the control without having to strongly type it.
Something like this, though I know this doesn't work:
string controlName = "Report_NumberDDL";
Control_Library."controlName" controlNum1 = new Control_Library."controlName"();
Edit:I tried to do this:
Type type = Type.GetType("Control_Library.Report_NumberDDL");
object control = Activator.CreateInstance(type);
But on the CreateInstance(type) I get a null value exception. So the Type isn't getting created correctly.

i'm trying to develop a ASP.Net control. If it based on System.Web.UI.Control id doesn't work correctly with Ajax.Net updatePanel. If I change it to System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl the it works fine with Ajax controls. What is the difference between them and how I implement it on Control based Control?

What is the best place for javascript that is specific to a partial view? For example, if I have a partial view (loaded via ajax call) with some divs and I want to turn those divs into an accordian, would it be better put the $("#section").accordion() in script tags inside of the partial view, or in a .js file in the function that retrieves that partial view and inserts it into the DOM?
Obviously, common methods I will be keeping in a .js file, however I am more talking about javascript very specific to the partial view itself. Most things I find on the net seem to say to put all javascript into a separate .js but nothing addresses the idea of partial views.

I'm looking much more closely at the idea of universal conventions over configuration for my projects (versus 'home-rolled' conventions, or grabbing from a variety of conventions).However, I'm not seeing much, if anything, about the preferred location of ASHX files in, for example, ASP.NET MVC projects (as well as Web forms projects).
Is there a recommended directory structure for these? Perhaps there's a published specification with a much larger directory structure accounted for?My personal convention has been to place these within a top-level Handlers directory, but I honestly haven't personally seen any other projects that really do this.I suppose, depending upon what it does (for example, generating an image), that one could argue this might go into the Content directory, but it seems this directory is generally used for static files.(Aside: One could argue that ASHX files are not needed in MVC projects, but based on questions posted here, it appears ASHX files still have their place in MVC projects.)EDIT: Ignore MVC projects, since I'm suggesting that as one example. How about Web Forms, then?

I learned from a long time ago and those habits stuck with me. So here is my question.With the code below I would like to not have to use the name of the control in this case it is cats. I would like to just use the code because the name of the control is already known. See I use Cats.Items etc. I would rather just refer to the name of the control that is within the sub. How do you do this? What is the technique called?

my application runs on the client side. I have to access a display on the asp page via javascript. I have the following code working properly:
ClientSript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "allMessages", "<script>document.forms[0].tbDisplay.value='Messages'; </script>");
tbDisplay is a "text box" asp:textbox control. I need to replace de 'Messages' for avariable. so instead of printing "Messages" all the time, I can change the information on the variable prior to display the message. how to change 'Messages' to a variable.
