I have two tables invoices and receipts
i have to show the alternate data of invoices and receipts in datagrid; condition is that
if Date column in INVOICE table matches with invoice columns in RECEIPTS table then the corresponding row of RECEIPTS table should come after INVOICES table row
if there is no match then INVOICES table next row will come, and
if there is match then then RECEIPTS TABLE row will appear

INVOICES:
Date Sales Client Amount Paid Status Notes
03/27/2008 Chinmoy Panda ETA Prospect 100 SENT qwwert
04/30/2008 Amit Sharma ETA Prospect 1000 FROZEN

I have multiple tables that are all linked back to a central table with foreign keys. I want to be able to create a new record in table 2, but I'm having trouble because I don't know how to create a new instance of table 2's record while referencing the ID of the record it will be tied to.
EXAMPLE:
Database: Collection
Table: Collection Field 1: id Field 2: name
Table: Book Field 1: collectionId Field 2: id Field 3: name
Now, I don't want to be able to create a book without setting it's collectionID, but I can't figure out how this should be divided in the controllers/views.
Should Book have a controller separate from Collection, or should the Collection controller have a createBook method, separate from it's own create method?
I want to call the createBook method (from it's own controller, or the Collection controller) from the Collection Details view.
When I invoke the create method of Book, how do I create a new Book that is instantiated with the collectionId set from the details view of the Collection item that was listed in the details view?
I should point out, I'm using the entity framework for my model, and I'm definitely new to this.

Basically i deal with two tables.i have a table T1 of the following format:id company_name i need to read this data and create a table T2 as followsi wrote the following code. it worked fine for retrieving data and modification but fails to insert the modified data into the 2nd table.the error is, it does not recognise the value for @token

Using vb.net 2003,asp.net 1.1
I have a usercontrol on a page with 2 dynamic datagrids
on it with dynamic custom buttons, I get a questionID from
the buttons and that is ok.
What I need to know is which one of the grids gave me the questionID
so I can transfer to an approriate page.
For Instance:
If gridone was the sender/commandsource Then

Else
Server.Transfer(pg2.aspx)

I currently have a data grid that exports to Excel on an ASP.NET page (which is used for reporting purposes) which works great until we put it under the stresses of a full scale production environment. With a multitude of users using it it seems to fill up the server memory quite quickly since the data thats being pulled is rather large. The requirements of the page are: The data needs to be queried and exported to excel, so theres no point to getting around that. I've noticed that xls files are rather large in comparison to their xlsx counter parts, using xlsx files would be fine for my application. I've noticed that xlsb (Excel binary) are even smaller(approx 25% the size of the their xls counterpart). Is there anyway to change my code to export to xlsb (first choice) or xlsx rather than xls? I think it has something to do with Mime Types but I'm not positive.

I have started creating a DAL and have successfully bound my adaptor and the query within the adaptor to a gridview.
In lots of the intranet type apps I code in regular ASP for myself I often have a few columns with little icons in that do various things for that rows identity, such as drill down to more details, overlay a graph, text the person via an ajax call, send em an email via ajax and so on.
I think Ive got the hang of styling elements of each row depending on the data but Im completely at a loss as how to add a column which would have an icon whos url link properties would be dependant on the data.
EG
ROW1 | Name | Email Address | ICONFOR EMAIL(with a querystring id matching the row id) | ICON FOR MORE DETAILS (with a querystring id matching the row id)
I realise I am probably looking at this the wrong way but its difficult when you are almost on autopilot doing these things in classic ASP.

i got a Food table and a Notification table. each Food has an expiry date. I wish to put all foods which are going to expired into the notification table. since user can create new food anytime, how can i update the Notifcation table once got any new food (but with near expiry date) added? and how to make sure the Notification table retrieve the nearly-expired food everytime (mayb update once everyday??)

I have a multi- statement transcation in my stored procedure, that is either inserting or updating records in table1 and table2.
table1 has a check constraint. Will the check constraint be checked only after I call COMMIT in above transaction, OR will it be checked before I call COMMIT when using INSERT or UPDATE statement?

I had a problem for a long time but now wonder how I will solve this. Perheps it is easy.
I have a <table> with two <td>. This <table> resides inside a GridView, so I FindControl like below. Now I need to do a calculation of height that if MessageBox1 have a height that is less than 306, then I need the MessageBox2 to have the remaining height.
For example if MessageBox1 has the height of 206, then MessageBox2 need to have the height of 100.
I think my problem is how to convert the height of MessageBox1 correctly and set the remaining height to MessageBox2 ?
