I work on an ASP.net app where I need this info. So I've put my app on a server and tried the code above and I get "Network Service" in the string opl. I need to know the current user of the PC who accesses my ASP.net app.
I figured this wouldn't be too difficult to do, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Is there a way to easily access the current item from a ListView data source? For instance, you can easily evaluate the current item's properties using Eval("propertyName"), but is there a way to access the object itself?
And if this isn't possible, what I ultimately want to do is get the Type of the object.
We have a web site which implements a central HttpSessionState management in App_Code like this:
[code]...
All of this worked fine ultil we needed to implement a time consuming process in a new thread... In the second thread HttpContext.Current.Session is null (we know its because the current context its different between threads) so everything fails :
Investigating we found that you could pass the session from one thread to another like this:
get the below error. My application was working fine until I probably modified something, but don't know what.

On our website users can sign up. The sign up controls (converted to a template) has the usual text boxes and then the create user button. When pressing this button the account is created. After reloading the website, the user can see his credentials in his 'my account' tab. Question: How can we access the newly created user (especially his userid) right after the create user button was clicked? Right now this does not work, we can only start accessing this after the page has been reloaded. But surely the account is created the instant the button was pressed. I have tried this:
But it looks as if the user is not yet logged in at this stage. Can this somehow be forced so that we can access the newly created userid right after the user has clicked the create user button?
I've got a web site that has a master page and that master page (mpMaster that has a user control ucControl1) which has a sub user control (ucControl2), this user control has a property which accepts a value. Now, I have a page that uses the master page and on this page I have another user control (ucPageControl), I need to find a way of setting the value in ucControl2 from ucPageControl. Is this possible at all?
IIS is utilizing the current logged-user's credentials to access an ASP.NET application. Is it possible to create a login page on the application and pass another users credentials, so that particular web app is run under a different user?
How would i be able to access the text inside the tags from its codebehind ("Some fancy text")? Was expecting it to be exposed through this.Text, this.Value or something similar.
EDIT:
I even get the following warning on the page where i try to user it: Content is not allowed between the opening and closing tags for element 'mytag'.
EDIT2:
public partial class mytag: UserControl { public int ItemID { get; set; } protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { } }
I created a user control in Asp.Net which I populate with <asp:Table id = "...." /> this table has columns that contain dropdownlists, textfields and other web controls. In the code behind I am not able to access these web controls, is there a way I can access them. or I shouldn't be doing that in the code behind of the user control? here is my ascx code markup:
I'm writing an application that will be accessed by different groups of users. I have one aspnetdb for logon; then depending on which group a user belongs to, I want to point them at a different 'content' database. Each user wants similar information, but unique to each group, so the schema of each database will be the same, but the content will be different. We're probably talking a dozen or so groups here.
What's the best way to achieve this? Would roles do? I could put each user into a specific role, group1, group2 etc, then check which role a user was in and use a connectionstring in the web.config file based on that. This seems like it would work, but it seems a bit of a cludge. A dozen or so connection strings doesn't seem too much of a problem, but it doesnt' really seem the correct use for roles.
I'm trying to access User.Identity from my master page so I can figure out which user is logged in, however I can't get it to work. If I import System.Security.Principal in my master page it makes no difference:
I am currently working on an application implementing custom localization features. I have created a number of web user controls for different activities on user designed pages. I wish make my webcontrols to check if the page using the control is a simple page or content page of a master page. In case of simple page we need to change page direction from ltl to rtl. In case of content page we need to change direction of master page.
Dim sWindowUser As String = ""sWindowUser = ExtractPureUsername(WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name) and sWindowUser = ExtractPureUsername(HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables("AUTH_USER"))
It ran properly in my development environment and I deployed it onto my 2008 server. The web site keep promoting me for user windows username and password. I entered my username & password but the site keep prompting me over and over again.
I'm using asp.net 4.0 with asp.net MVC 2.0 and the asp.net membership provider.
I need to terminate a the user session before I delete it. Otherwise if the user is still authenticated the next time it will visit a page null reference exceptions will occur when trying to access the user data and profile.
I get the Session.Abandon() method but what I'm looking for is the same on a user, something like user.AbandonSessions().
I've been developing an application based on nopCommerce 1.60. I'm developing on Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
I'm deploying the application to Windows server 2003 R2 (32bit) for staging and this works fine. It works perfectly and exactly like when I run it on the Visual Studio dev server.
I've just deployed the code to the live server for testing in that environment and I've got a real show stopper. NopContext.Current.User is always null!
The live server is Windows 2003 R2 64bit, and this is the only difference I can see. I've been through every page of the site settings in IIS on both servers and made sure every setting is the same, I've also done the same for the Application Pool.
am writing a web service in vb.net/asp.net 2, that needs user's name. It works fine when the url request is "www.mysite.com" but if any one has logged-in using "mysite.com" without a "www" and goes to the page that calls my web service, The HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name gives null. How can I resolve this problem?
I've got a website and we just had a huge jump in traffic. Now all of the sudden we're getting sql parameter errors left and right. We switched to a new sql server a few weeks ago and everything has been fine but the added traffic seems to be breaking us.
I have a data access class that is called when each user trys to logon. It runs through several tasks before finally updating the users last login date and forwarding them to the administration section.
What I'm seeing from the trace logs suggests that when I'm logging in the first several tasks are using my data (lets say user=birk pass=word). But at some point the accessor class starts sending over the data from someone else who's trying to login (lets say user=abcxyz)
Every connection we make to the server is closed when we're finished with it. I'm nulling out all of the accessor objects when I'm finished with them. But somehow different user data from different sessions are making their way into other peoples instances of the object.
I'm not using session/application/cache/viewstate to store the objects so I'm not really seeing how they could edit eachother... Its just really weird and I'm not sure how to even go about researching the problem.
This is roughly the accessor class... I trimmed out some of the parts that weren't reliant to the issue
I have created a web user control (MemberDetails.ascx) which is loaded dynamically on a page (Member.aspx) for my website. The control has some TextBoxes. I want to store the values inputted by a user in these TextBoxes to a database on the click event of a button that is on the Member.aspx page (i.e. not a part of user control).
I have looked everywhere for how to do this and all I come up with is threads describing how to expose public properties. I have a USER CONTROL in my Master page. It is a search box with a text box and a dropdown for search type (last name, account number, etc) and a search button. When the user clicks the search button, I open a new page that displays the results. How do I pass the values from the USER CONTROL search fields to the new page? I would post code, but I have nothing to post yet since I don't know where to start. I have tried exposing the public property of the user control, but I don't know how to retrieve those values on the results page.
When I use a Master Page with a Content Page, in the Content Page script I find that User object is defined, with Identity and IsInRole properties. However, when I enter script on the Master Page itself User comes up as "not declared".
I am guessing that User is embedded in some namespace that is automatically imported to Content pages, but haven't been able to track it down.
I have develop an ASP.NET website and I want store some uploaded files in a shared location in some different server. On that server one user has the access.
how it is possible to get the access of the shared location on the server with my Web site?
Im using forms authentication and im trying to get the current username. I tried using Environment.UserName but I am getting "ASPNET". But if i change my application to windows authentication im getting the true username that is currently logged on. How can I get the true username that is currently logged on in the domain using the forms authentication.
