I want to update a .dbf file from my .net application. I was able to read the .dbf file into a grid but not able to update the .dbf file from my .net application. I have used following code to read the .dbf file. Reading is okay. But, not able to update .dbf file.
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;
using System.Drawing;
using System.Text;
using System.Windows.Forms;
using System.Data.OleDb;
using System.Data.Odbc;
namespace DBFwin
{
public partial class Form1 : Form
{
public Form1()
{
InitializeComponent();
}
private void ConnectToDBF()
{
System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection oConn = new System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection();
oConn.ConnectionString = @"Driver={Microsoft dBase Driver (*.dbf)};SourceType=DBF;SourceDB=D:databases;Exclusive=No; Collate=Machine;NULL=NO;DELETED=NO;BACKGROUNDFETCH=NO;";
oConn.Open();
System.Data.Odbc.OdbcCommand oCmd = oConn.CreateCommand();
//Test.DBF is the dbf file which is located at C:
dSetup folder.
oCmd.CommandText = @"SELECT * FROM C:
dSetupTest.DBF";
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
dt.Load(oCmd.ExecuteReader());
//Adding a row..
//DataRow dtRow = dt.LoadDataRow();
DataRow dtRow = dt.NewRow();
//FIELD1 and FIELD2 are two columns of dbf file.
dtRow["FIELD1"] = 999;
dtRow["FIELD2"] = "RA-12";
dt.BeginLoadData();
dt.Rows.Add(dtRow);
dt.EndLoadData();
//Above code adding a row in the grid, which is fine.
//How can i update dbf file from this source code???
oConn.Close();
dataGridView1.DataSource = dt;
}
private void btnClick_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
ConnectToDBF();
}
}
}
NOTE: I have also seen that, a third party component Apollo component is availble to read, add, edit records of .dbf file from .NET application. This component is developed by VistaSoftware.com. This not a freeware. Could you please confirm, to update .dbf file whether i have to use this third party component or i can do it by my .net application.

I have a simple windows form app that I need to get the file path for. I am placing a config file in the same directory and I need to be able to get the path to that file.
I have used Application.CommonAppDataPath but that returns the path with 1.0.0.0 at the end.
and Applicaiton.StartupPath but that returns the path with indebug at the end
Is there anyway to get the path to just the main file directory without anything appended to the end?
We have a running asp.net application which is accessed by various offices of the client worldwide (around 42 offices in 12 countries). Now after 8 months of hosting it we have to include updations in 6 pages and addition of 15 new asp.net pages. Now is there any way by which we could update the existing upside without taking it offline i.e. stopping it ?
I have created create.aspx view page from Terminology controller create Method .Once terminolgy create operation is suceeded it has to update other table appterminolgy,by taking that termid ,appid is available.
I've got a web application with 3 layers: front, business and data. I'm using linqToSql for retrieving my data from the db. On the front end, I'd like to show the data that's being pulled from the database. In online examples all code is shown in the same layer. I'm wondering if it's good design to put a reference to the linqtosql classes in my front end so I can bind the results to my gridview, or whether I should use a different way. Since the user should be able to update the data, the easiest thing would be to use the gridview, connect it to the linq2sql datasource and bind it that way, but that would totally defeat my 3-layer structure.
I have an application which was running totally fine some days earlier. The problem began since the day i have taken SVN update from server. Its saying "error 404, file not exists", it just removes application name from url & only leaves "http://localhost/1980". Whatever changes i try in web.config it has no effect. It just stick to this error. I copied my previous web.config also but no luck.I tried to comment all lines which are redirecting user to any other page in case of error also. Its happening in my colleagues copy also.
FYI, all other .net applications on my system are still running smoothly. Only this application is not running. Checked the log & it says: 2010-05-15 05:50:12 192.168.1.2 3692 192.168.1.53 2869 HTTP/1.1 NOTIFY /notify 400 - Hostname -
my application is in Intranet, but in my application mail is trigger to the user, and in that mail (outlook) user getting one link of that application so that he can update "YES"
My problem is that when the user is not in office and he is using Blackberry, at that time intranet link will not work.........
so, any solution that anybody can update through internet.
This is part of a larger problem which has plagued me for a while now (see "EntityCollection already initialized" error with entity as model in Asp.Net MVC? for the entire picture).
But I found a web site with someone who had faced a similar problem and apparently solved it for his needs [URL]. I tried it, but had to make some modifications to fit my code, and the helper methods supplied by a tutorial by Steven Sanderson (see previous post).
I'm very close it seems, but not quite:
UpdateModel(consultant, "Consultant"); if (vm.Programs != null) //Unnecessary? Can it even be null if it's initialized from the model? for (int i = 0; i < vm.Programs.Count; i++) { Program formProgram = vm.Programs[i]; Program modelProgram = consultant.Programs.SingleOrDefault(x => x.Id == formProgram.Id); if (modelProgram == null) _repository.AddProgram(formProgram); else modelProgram = formProgram; UpdateModel(modelProgram); //Doesn't work. The modelProgram object does get updated with the correct property values, but it isn't saved to the repository... } _repository.Save();
Although this follows the example on the site above, and the modelProgram does get updated with the changed properties, these values are not saved to the database on _repository.Save() on the Consultant object, even though the modelProgram object is a reference to a Program object on the Consultant... What am I doing wrong?
I am using the Entity Framework by the way, if it isn't clear.
(BTW, if anyone has any input on the previous question and the whole picture, that would be welcome too, it is still unresolved).
UPDATE: There was apparently a mistake in here: UpdateModel didn't actually do any updating, I had just referenced a different object (the one in the viewmodel) for the modelProgram, so of course it had the right property values. I still want ideas for how to achieve this though...
asically the problem is this: I would like to manipulate a string (HTML) on the server and populate it in a tooltip done in javascript. The html part that I use is only <BR /> along with some texts, getting something like this:
Tooltip: "Information <BR /> 1 - info 1.... <BR /> 2 - info 2 ... <BR/>"
I do not want to disable ValidateRequest ASP.NET and would like to find a way to get list these items on separate lines. However, when running this way, returns the error "A potentially dangerous value was required ..."This problem began to appear after they entered the update panel in the application.
My web application goes onto several client servers and I wrote a simple VB6 app that when run downloads relevant files and copies them into the directory.If I wanted the web application to perform this update can I assume this is impossible, i.e. FTP the files and copy them accordingly?Also I am now pre-compiling my site each time using the aspnet_compiler and this seems to update every page, do I need to copy each page every time or simply the ones I've changed.
I get the error after uploading my ASP.NET solution to server:

I have tried the demo and the code example and it did not work. I was reading that some of the Twitter request uri's have changed and that some are not in use anymore, not sure what that means.
When I run the code it authenticates but when I post I get a 404 error on the Tweet_Click on this line - twitter.Tweet(txtTweet.Text)
On the demo it does not do anything when the button is pressed, the page only refreshes.
When debugging my application, I m getting an application level error in global.asax file. The Server.GetLastError() reads "File does not exist." but thats it. No more details on the filename or the location where the code is trying to find a file. I commented out the application_error method, with a hope that the exception would be thrown when the debug the application, but no errors were thrown. How do i find the source of the error, cos I want to resolve this issue by either putting the file that the application is looking for or by completely removing the code that is referencing the file.
I have a folder called GUI. Inside GUI thers another folder called PDF and inside this folder, there are some PDF files. This folder (GUI) is uploaded to the server too. Then I have a WebForm with some ImageButtons. When I click one of these ImageButtons, I want the file to open in a new tab. I tried with the following code:
[Code]....
As you can see, I build the path using the tooltips of the different ImageButtons. The ToolTip = File Name I want to open. When I try this in debug mode, it works. It opens the pdf file in a new tab. However when I publish my website and upload it to the server... it doesn't work... when I click an ImageButton I get the following exception: No application is associated with the specified file for this operation
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. I want to create a WCF Service to transfer data to our clients application(WPF). The Data I am trying to send is as follows.
ID Code Description unit Rate 1 104200000 LIVE GOAT NOS 25 2 104200000 LIVE GOAT2 NOS 25 3 104200030 LIVE GOAT3 KGS 10 4 104202030 Water LTR 5
and so on till ~ 11000 records.
What I have done so far is. Created a service which return a list of data.
public List<Classes.TariffData> GetTariffData() { var currentTariffData = new List<Classes.TariffData>(); using (var myConnection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString)) { const string query = "select a.ID,a.Code,a.Description,a.unit,a.rate,a.rate3 from tariff.dbo.tariffdata a, tariff.dbo.code_history b where a.id = b.id and b.endofvalidity is null"; using (var myCommand = new SqlCommand(query, myConnection)) { using (var ad = new SqlDataAdapter(myCommand)) { var dt = new DataTable("tariff"); ad.Fill(dt); currentTariffData.AddRange(from DataRow row in dt.Rows select new Classes.TariffData { Id = int.Parse(row["Id"].ToString()), Code = row["Code"].ToString(), Description = row["Description"].ToString(), Unit = row["unit"].ToString(), Rate = row["rate"].ToString(), Rate3 = row["rate3"].ToString() }); return currentTariffData; } } } } Class is as follows public class TariffData { public int Id { get; set; } public string Code { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string Unit { get; set; } public string Rate { get; set; } public string Rate3 { get; set; } }
If i Limit the number of data by using const string query = "select top 300 a.ID,a.Code,a.Description. The Service works fine. But if I remove the top 300 part I get an error. What is your advice if I want a service to allow our client applications to update their data by using WCF. (11000 records.) I am using visual Studio 2010. C# .Net 4.0
located in the system.codedom compiliers section of our standard web config. I investigated the problem a bit. (I also checked the namespace details on msdn to find out abit about it). Amongst many other solutions, I found this post recommending updating the FX_Schema.xml file on our server.
I looked through fx_schema file, and, as defined in the event viewer, the attribute "providerOption" is not in this schema! Here is the copy of the system.codedom section from the FX_schema.xml
