Can Get Started With Using WF 4.0 In Typical Website Scenarios?

Apr 5, 2010

I have developed for SharePoint and in those cases it is clear how workflow can (You have documents that needs approval and there are built in SharePoint workflows for this) But now I am doing standard ASP.NET web CRUD apps with WCF. I would like to find a way to get WF 4.0 invovled but I am not sure how to do it and never see any examples....

.net - Multiple Forms Authentication Scenarios On The Same Website?

Mar 23, 2011

Until now, I've always used straightforward Forms Authentication on my community websites, and that one method of authentication, with that one cookie/ticket has been used throughout the website (with varying roles per user also stored in the ticket). I haven't used the built in LogIn controls and instead have always just created my own login/registration form, and written the code to insert into (and authenticate against in the log-in scenario) my bespoke 'Users' table. So I've essentially just been utilizing the .IsAuthenticated() method (to determine if a user is logged in), referenced the UserData property in the ticket (to determine which roles the user belongs to), and set up the 'location' restrictions in the Web.config, so the log-in page is automatically shown for pages that require 'member access' etc.

With my new project, I will need user registration/login for the Forums/Community part of the website only. I then need an additional user registration/login for the Recruitment part of the website (not related in any way to the users that sign up/log in to the Forums/Community part of the site).I was wondering if this possible, and if so, how to go about it?e user registration/sign-in pages might look the same, but my underlying code would would create accounts/authenticate against different DB tables.

C# - Handing Complex Validation Scenarios In MVC?

Jan 15, 2010

I'm been working on a GetRuleViolations() method for my User class, but I'm getting a little hung up on on something:

What happens when different actions require different business rules?

My User table has the following columns: Id, UserRoleId, Username, and Password. Several actions involving User are possible (create new user, edit user, set/reset password, and log in), and the business rules for each are not always the same.

For example, when users log in, they are required to enter a password, but when admins create a new user, entering a password is not even an option. And in the case of setting/resetting a password, the password needs to be entered twice, and the two values need to be an exact match. What is the best way to handle this complexity? Is there some kind of design pattern to allow the right GetRulesViolations() method to be selected for the right circumstance?

Architecture :: Handle Different Login Scenarios?

Mar 23, 2010

I need to handle 2 different scenarios.1. Webapplication in a Servercenter. A user can authenticate against a companydatabase with an user account that is stored inside the companytable. We provide services to different companies, and every company has their own database. A management database contains the relation of company to database and server. A user need the companyname, username and password to logon.2. Webapplication on a company serverThe services are hosted on hardware inside the companynet. There is only one company to handle, so that a user doesn't need a companyname for login.Whats the best approach for this problem?

Typical File Size Of Temporary Files, Folder?

Jul 23, 2010

I know this is a bit like how long is a piece of string question, but I'm wondering how big some peoples ASP.NET Temporary Files folder, gets. I wish to move this folder to a RAM DISK so I'm trying to see how big this should be set, to.

eg. <compilation tempDirectory="R:ASP.Net Temporary Folder" debug="false">

This is only for my DEVELOPMENT Machine (to help speed up compiling -> temp crap goes to ram instead of the Disk).

Is 256MB big enough? What about file uploading? where do those files (temporarily) go?

Complex Process Of Making A Typical Housie/Bingo Game Ticket?

Aug 9, 2010

I'm trying to create a typical Housie/Bingo Game ticket in Asp.net 2.0 (VB). But, not being succeeded. Ticket contains 3 row with 9 columns. Total 27 blocks, and it must be only 15 should be fill outta those 27. and each column contains value like 1st column should be between 1-10 and 2nd must have random values between 11-20.. It doesn't matter how many blocks filled in each column.. 1 is must, no single column should be blank, all 9 columns must be filled, some have all 3 blocks filled, some have 1 with total of 15 blocks filled in whole ticket. with random numbers..

Guys here was the typical housie ticket specification.. Please help me out generating a ticket like this. I've tried but, not being that much succeeded, I get whole column blank and validating columns.. takes extra load on system. please find me the way to make it.

MVC Getting Started Video Tutorial

Jun 22, 2010

I'm new to ASP.net and used the on-line demo under the getting started section to try and build my first MVC app. [URL]. This is a great video and is just the kind of thing I need to help me learn as I hate reading though books! However I have gone through this tutorial 3 times now and I can't get it working. Well, I follow it step by step and get the following error. The only difference is that I am using Visual Studio 2010. Being new to this I need to become familiar with all the standard error messages but at the moment they are all foreign. This is my FriendsController.cs I'm not sure if I need to post the other files as I know the database is setup ok.

The error message is:
Error 1 'HelloWorld.Models.FriendsDB' does not contain a definition for 'Friends' and no extension method 'Friends' accepting a first argument of type 'HelloWorld.Models.FriendsDB' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) C:UserssleoniDocumentsVisual

MVC - Getting Started With Linq And SQL Procedure

Mar 3, 2010

Today is my first day using ASP.NET MVC, and I'm finding it very intriguing. I only just started learning asp.net.

So basically I'm trying to call a procedure from an MSSQL database, and with it I need to send a paramater "PlaceID", which is an integer. This procedure basically just picks out a number of columns from different tables in the database. Here is the Linq to SQL code

The ultimate goal is to be able to retrieve all the information and return it as JSON with a function that will be available for a javascript.

I'm wondering what is the best way to proceed from here. I know I have to create a view, but I'm still unclear exactly on how I can call the procedure and make it store all the information. I could really use some help on this, some code examples would be excellent. I already wrote a C#.net function to convert a datatable to JSON using a stringbuilder, but I get the feeling there is a smarter way to do things.

2) When you create an API for a website. Do you host the api and the website in the same location? Or do you isolate the website from the API?

C# - DotNetOpenAuth: Webforms, Getting Started

Mar 1, 2010

I am trying to figure out how to get DotNetOpenAuth(http://www.dotnetopenauth.net/) working in my webforms app

I don't understand where to begin. I have an OpenIDSelector on my Login.aspx that lets you choose google or Yahoo. You can choose one, then a popup comes up, and lets you login. Once you login the program hangs because it is trying to do something with a database???

Can't I just use some control(like the OpenIDSelector) and get back that the user was authenticated, get their ClaimedID and handle the rest myself?

EDIT: Trying to get started with OpenID in Webforms? Go Here...
