View 1 RepliesI have an ASP.NET page that I would like to include inside of my classic asp website. The classic asp pages were originally written in Dreamweaver CS4.
What steps need to be taken? Will I need to convert all pages to asp.net or can I leave them alone? Will they convert easily if I have to convert to ASP.NET.

View 1 RepliesOn most of my asp.net web application I have at least 4 computers that I am constantly moving my application around to. My development PC at work, at home, a test web server for others to test then finally the production server. In all cases I am using a MS-SQL database that would be on a minimum of 3 (usually 4) different sql servers. I am constantly changing the connection string(s) in the web.config file. Now I have just learned about Entity Frameworks which apparently requires its own connection string.
As far as I know the only references to the connection string(s) would be the web.config settings for the asp.net membership and role provider settings and now the entity framework object. So I was hoping I could do some coding in the Global.asax unit under some function and "detect" which server I am running on maybe by its name or something that would be both constant and unique on all machines. Then programmatically configure the membership provoders and entity framework object to use the correct connection string.
The old school way is to copy and paste and the files.. so we don't want that anymore..
So I notice VS2010 has 'Publish'... Should I use file system and just create a shared drive on the VM and publish that way?? Should I FTP and set up FTP on the VM FTP server? Should I use web deploy?? But that seems to be made for commercial web hosting ?
I have read that the best way to secure images from being access would be to place them into a database rather than into a file system or virtual directory. Is this correct? I am creating a site that needs to have the images the user upload be secure as possible. I initially programmed the images to be uploaded to a database then I reprogram the site to have them store in to a file system/virtual directory. I'm still up in the air in terms of which one to use. Again, security is my primary concern.
View 4 RepliesI'm using profiles to save control settings of users.
I have a check box that enables them to 'enable' saving their settings.
rather than cycling through each parameter, and setting them to Null,
is there a way I can do something like:
Profile.Something = Null

I work with a ASP.NET UI framework that pulls fields for a particular screen off a database. These fields can be associated with particular data fields in another database for binding. The idea with this setup is that if a client needs a new column on a table, they can easily add it, and create a UI field that binds to it without any sort of application restart or recompile.
The problem I've always had with this is that it has meant I'm always having to work with untyped datasets in my code. Are there any ORM libraries for .NET out there that could easily accommodate the requirement of being able to access arbitrary columns in the table schema over and above ones mapped to strongly typed fields?
I am writing an ASP.NET web service and am throwing a SoapException with a message:
throw new SoapException("BANG!", SoapException.ClientFaultCode); When I create an ASP.NET client, and request a label to display the SoapException.Message property, it displays a message similar to the following:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: BANG! at WebServiceException.WebService1.HelloWorld() in [DIRECTORY]WebService1.asmx.cs:line 23
Is there an easy way to simply be presented with the message BANG! rather than this entire string? Or should I just use regular expressions?
I want to read some information from an xml file and store it ready in memory so that it can go out with every page response without being reloaded from the xml on every request.
What is the best way of doing this?
It looks to me like there are 2 options. Either create a class with static fields that the information is stored in. Or create a class with public fields that the info is stored in and create an instance of that class at application level.
Is that correct, are both of those options viable? or will I not be able to access the fields in the second method without creating an instance of the class in the code that responds to the page request(basically if you create an instance of a class at application level can you use that instance from within code anywhere in your website as long as it is public)?
I have a modal pop extender that has a user control in it, I use it in several forms in a ASP.NET 4.0 project. I am not very happy with the js code that it produces and the mess in the markup So, any worthy alternatives that can be controlled from the codebehind easily :)?
View 2 RepliesI am currently building 3-tired ASP.NET 3.5 Web application which has workflows built in for manager approvals. Currently there is a dashboard on the homepage of the website where all the pending approvals are displayed in a webpart. I want to build a plugin for MS Outlook so that whenever there is a new request for approval I want that request to show up in MS outlook. Where do I start with this? Do I have to expose my business logic layer through webservices?
View 3 RepliesIs there any jquery tooltip plugin that allows to write some values in popup bubble and save that value in DB via AJAX?!It should also be able to display values from DB
View 1 RepliesI'm building an easy plugIn for validations, after setting up some options to be editable,
and after cycling all the fields i wrote:
$(this).submit(function () {
where "this" is the main element (the form).Now I was wondering to use this plug-in in asp.net as well, so without using an html form, where there are just some inputs into a div and on click on a specific button it start...So I know that here I have to change the submit... and trying to bind it on click of the button... I don't know how to solve this...
am using Autocomplete Jquery from the following URL:[URL]I am making my project in MVC 3.0 (Razor)
In this I am displaying list of names from the database and its running fine.Now I want to show this whole list in the div according to my project requirement.
I am trying to use a jQuery plugin in a control. The pages that the control can be on use partial postbacks via an UpdatePanel. I include jQuery and the plugin during the control's PreRender event like this:
ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptInclude(
this,
this.GetType(),
"jquery",
"/_infrastructure/javascript/jquery.js"));
ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptInclude(
this,
this.GetType(),
"jquery.customPlugin",
"/_infrastructure/javascript/jquery.customPlugin.js");
The customPlugin jQuery plugin sets up a new function called "executeCustomPlugin". Later in the PreRender event of the control, I use the plugin on an element on the control:
ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(
this,
this.GetType(),
"customPlugin init script",
@"$(document).ready(function() {
$('#elementId').executeCustomPlugin();
});",
true);
However, when it executes, I get the JavaScript error:
$('#elementId').executeCustomPlugin is not a function
It would seem as if the jQuery plugin is never executed at all, but I set up window.alerts in the jQuery.customPlugin.js file, and it is indeed being executed.
Is there a way to fix this problem?
I need to recognize the url from my Personalized plugin. Based on that for specialized url I need to fetch the credential from my database.

I am planning to create a multi module based system. I am planning to create a core system and I want a flexibility that if I want to add modules to it so I can easily add/Remove different modules on the fly. I have seen similar thing in Windows Media Player i.e. we can add different plugins through configuration. How we can do same in asp.net.
View 6 RepliesIn an aspx page I am calling a jquery plugin for two listboxes as below.
$(document).ready(function() {
$("select.select_AdditionalLanguages").custSelectBox();
$("select.select_Organisations").custSelectBox();
});
[code]...
Managed to solved this issue by having same class name for both the listboxes and then passing both the list box objects to the plugin
$('select.select_field').custSelectBox(null, $('#EditUsers_Organisations'), $('#EditUsers_AdditionalLanguages'));
This might not be the best solution but nothing else worked for me.
