View 1 RepliesLet's say I have a DropDownList server control, called "CategoriesDDL" and the ClientID proeprty determines its client side id, which is its ID prefixed with the id's NamingContainer's ids. In this case the client side ID is CP1_CategoriesDDL. But what is the rule regarding the client side name, in this case "ct100$CP1_CategoriesDDL"?
View 2 RepliesM - RI have a page like that and the control structure is like that.
UpdatePanel
Button
ModalPopupExtender
ModalPopup Content Container
Initially, ModalPopup Content Container is an empty control.After user clicks on the Button, a async postback will be triggered. During the postback, the server generates the content and appends to ModalPopup Content Container.Also sets the properties of ModalPopupExtender. Finally, calls ModalPopupExtender.Show() method and UpdatePanel.Update() method to show the modal popup.
This method works fine if all controls in ModalPopup Content Container contains simple control. If a control is a button that needs to postback to server side, that is a problem.Since the controls in ModalPopup Content Container is dynamically created. If a control in ModalPopup Content Container triggers a postback event, the control must be created before RaisePostBackEvent is called in server side.
My idea is to determine whether the ModalPopupExtender is hidden or shown in client side in order to re-generate the dynamic control in ModalPopup Content Container.So my question is how to determine a ModalPopupExtender is hidden or shown.
I am making use of XSLT in showing a XML form. But in XSLT file along with the path of XML, I have a checkbox and a textbox input html control type. My question is how can I access these html control input value in the server page?
View 3 Repliesdownloading multiple files from the server side through the browser (i.e. Chrome) I've debbuged it the foreach iterates fine but it only downloads the first file.

I'm running an ASP.NET ver 4.0 website on Windows Server 2003. Everything was working fine, until I uploaded a new version of the site tonight.I have a new version of the website on my local box, with so many changes that I decided to remove all the existing files on the live site, with the exception of the web.config.Then I uploaded all new files (except the local version of my web.config) from my local box to the live site.
Afterward, when I browsed to the site and tried to use the standard Account/Login.aspx page, all my server code in the code-behind file was displayed in the browser!What would cause this? It *seems* like that would be a server-configured issue, but after I rolled the website back to the old files, everything worked again!
As I understand it, the <input type=email> element in HTML5 will render as a simple text field in browsers that do not support the tag. On other browsers it will render properly, like on the iPhone it will bring up the e-mail keyboard layout.
like to use this in a project but my input fields are <asp:TextBox> controls. How can I use the HTML5 element but still access its data server-side like the rest of my fields?
I have a Date input type on my page..
Code:
<input type="date" id="date1" runat="server">
But my problem is how can I set a value of set using server side code?
I am using the <input type="file" /> tag to upload a file to the server. How do I access the file at the server side and store it at the server? (The file is an image file)The client side code is :
<form id="form1" action="PhotoStore.aspx" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<div>
<input type="file" id="file" onchange="preview(this)" />

In case of C#, when we code a keydown event which usually works in server side, what happend? Can PHP do that? or should work only in javascript which is client side?
View 2 RepliesI have a Save button in my page. When user clicks it, the program will do some checking. If it passes the test, the record will be saved. If not, it will fire another button's onclick event. The 2nd button has been set with both height and width = 0 and it has an extender AJAX ModalPopup.
Here is the code for the 1st button (the visible Save button):
[Code]....
Problem is that setting height and width = 0 for the 2nd button can make the button invisible in IE. But it shows a very small button in Chrome. If I set the 2nd button to invisible, it simply won't function at all.
I have the following form
<form id="upload" method="post" EncType="Multipart/Form-Data" action="reciver.aspx">
<input type="file" id="upload" name="upload" /><br/>
<input type="submit" id="save" class="button" value="Save" />
</form>
When I look at the file collection it is empty.
HttpFileCollection Files = HttpContext.Current.Request.Files;
How do I read the uploaded file content without using ASP.NET server side control?
I would like to know how a browser based POST request is converted to server side event like button_click.

I have a table in my SQL Server DB that holds auditing information for certain actions a user takes within my system. Things like who performed the action, when it was performed, and what action are all pieces of information that can easily span multiple actions. But depending on the action performed, there may be other information that I want to capture, that is specific to the action. To handle this, I elected to add an "XML Metadata" column to the table that holds serialized XML of different metadata objects that I've created. I created a metadata object for each of the actions that I'm interested in tracking extra for. So each object is responsible for tracking specific extra information (metadata) for it's action. The objects are serialized and written to my new column.
I have SystemAction objects that I use to store information from this table, and I've added a string field that holds the XML string from the DB. The problem is, when I'm reading this XML back from the SystemAction objects, I'm struggling with a way to generically translate it back into it's correct metadata object. Each metadata object is going to have different fields, and each object has it's own static method that takes an XML string and attempts to return the metadata object type. So I could say:
SomeActionMetadata mdObj = SomeActionMetadata.BuildFromXML(xmlStringFromDB);
But I really don't know of a way to say "Here's some XML that could translate to any number of different objects. Figure it out and give me the right object back."
Given my current implementation, I could always just assign a unique ID to each metadata object that is stored as a field in each object, then use a case statement to switch on that ID and use the appropriate class's static build method to build the right object. But I was hoping for something a little more automatic than that. What if I have a List of SystemAction objects and just want to loop through them and generate the correct metadata object type?

I'm looking to alter the way my asp .net webpage is output to the browser depending on the css media type being used. Although the css is generally taking care of the differences in appearance between screen and print mode I would also like to make some minor adjustments to the markup when print mode is required. I would simply be dropping a floated section down below its sibling rather than as a 2 col approach which is to used during screen layout in the browser.
View 3 RepliesI have an application that I would like to be able to allow the user to modify multiple characteristics of each record within a datagrid.
Most characteristics require data to be entered in a text box but some a check box would be more appropriate.
My question is does a gridview column need to have all the same item template controls? or could I read from the database the control type and dynamically alter the template control for each row as it loads?
I am trying to write a function that can be called to run a stored procedure. I pass the stored procedure name, followed by as many parameters as I need to run the procedure. I am able to do this by using the params keyword, so my function looks something like this;

How can I determine what the data type of the parameter is? Maybe I need to alter the string[] part, above?
