perhaps it's my exposure to php frameworks, but asp.net mvc makes perfect sense to me. the logic is there to build a well organized website, and it really doesn't seem more difficult than using web forms. is it wise for me to jump straight into asp.net mvc from php or would you recommend I learn web forms first?

We have a WebForms based web application with these properties:
Large Business Object Framework (Close knit DAL / Business Objects / Serverside Validation, similar to CSLA) Precompiled and placed in the Bin folder. Uses a lot of UserControls.
Looking at overviews of MVC it seems there is a distinctive split on how the code is split up, there is no Session State (which seems odd, but possibly ok if the website is primarily serving content?) and it appears constructing pages looks similar to classic asp (use of <% %> tags)
Do I have the wrong interpretation of MVC? Is MVC just a specific architecture, or is the way things will be going and WebForms will eventually be dropped? How does one split the M-V-C when an existing Business object Framework exists? Why is there no session state? Do UserControls work in MVC? I realise this could be subjective, so mostly looking for your comments on the subject to make my up my own mind.

I have a scenario where i have 4 asp buttons , on click of each button there are 4 labels inside 4 seperate divs where each displays seperate data.
Now if i click second button i need to display second label text inside 2nd div and hide all other divs.How can i achieve this ?
OnClientClick event of each button calls displayAlternate() which displays repective div and hides other.
displayAlternate('second'); return false; --> if i do this server side event is not fired ...
If I return true div second label is not getting displayed..
How can I achieve functionality where all divs expect 2nd is hidden and i get server side event also..
Below is code.
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head runat="server">
<title></title>
</head><body>
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<script type="text/javascript">
function displayAlternate(id) {

I am using a Silverlight usercontrol in my ASP.NET web app.
The user control has several autocomplete boxes and it seems that the enter key never fires the keydown event in any of them while it fires for other keys.
I'm assuming that autocomplete boxes must handle the enter key in a different way, perhaps for chosing an item from the list. - Thus it works with simple text boxes.
I was thinking about overriding the eventhandler in a new deriving control...

If this is not the appropriate forum for this I didn't see any linq specific forum listed.
I am about to start a new project and I would like to use it as an opportunity to update myself with the newer technologies, like ajax and linq.
All my database CRUD operations will be done by sql stored procedures, does linq still make sense when doing that? I watched a couple introductory videos on linq and none of them dealt with stored procedures, thats why I'm wondering.

I have a textbox on my page and the second a user puts something in the Textbox i need to make a save button visible.
I thought I would do that with a keyup or keydown even. However, all I can find in my Text box is OnTextChanged. This only fires when enter is pressed. This is not want I want.
Is there anyway to fire a Keyup or keydown event when the user types something into the textbox?

I am trying to attach a server-side event to lookup the city/state for the user-entered zipcode in a field like the one below.
<asp:TextBox ID="TextZipcode" runat="server" CssClass="inputtext" Columns="10" MaxLength="10"></asp:TextBox>
Since there is no lost focus event to capture, has anyone had any luck getting this to work?

As I understand it, the <input type=email> element in HTML5 will render as a simple text field in browsers that do not support the tag. On other browsers it will render properly, like on the iPhone it will bring up the e-mail keyboard layout.
like to use this in a project but my input fields are <asp:TextBox> controls. How can I use the HTML5 element but still access its data server-side like the rest of my fields?

I have a Save button in my page. When user clicks it, the program will do some checking. If it passes the test, the record will be saved. If not, it will fire another button's onclick event. The 2nd button has been set with both height and width = 0 and it has an extender AJAX ModalPopup.
Here is the code for the 1st button (the visible Save button):
[Code]....
Problem is that setting height and width = 0 for the 2nd button can make the button invisible in IE. But it shows a very small button in Chrome. If I set the 2nd button to invisible, it simply won't function at all.

I have a div called address which as a textarea. When I click a hyperlink, it toggles the div up and down. After clicking a an asp.net button the div collapses which is fine, but I noticed the url turns from [URL] to [URL] and now the toggle does not work. Here is the script:
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#myAddress').click(function () {
ShowHideAddressBox();
});
$('#arrowIndicator').click(function () {
ShowHideAddressBox();
});
});
function ShowHideAddressBox() {
var str = $("#myAddress").text();
if (str == "Hide") {
$("#myAddress").html("Click here");
$("#arrowIndicator").attr("src", "/Shared/Images/misc/arrow_state_grey_expanded.png");
}
else {
$("#myAddress").html("Hide");
$("#arrowIndicator").attr("src", "/Shared/Images/misc/arrow_state_grey_collapsed.png");
}
$('#checkAddress').toggle('normal');
}
The server-side button click just sets some values in a couple textboxes. In my master page, I have the following line as well:
<asp:ScriptReference Assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35"
Name="MicrosoftAjax.js" Path="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/3.5/MicrosoftAjax.js" />
