Display Files To Download Based On Who Is Logged In?

Sep 3, 2010

I have an asp.net web app. I have secure parts to the website and currently I have it setup so that people can login with their domain accounts. The are three secure sections to the site, all of which require files of interest be displayed to the user so they can download them.

Okay so this is how I see it working, people come to the home page and select on one of the three options. At this point they are prompted for there domain password then they are navigated to the secure page and a bit of code populates the page with file downloads based on who they are logged in as.

The files themselves will be uploaded to the website and kept in folders named after the username. so for instance the user edwardh would be displayed the files in the folder /downloads/edwardh.

Web Forms :: Filter Uploaded Files Based On Logged In User

Aug 30, 2012

I have a page that loads a two different files that the user uploaded during page_load. The code is an example I used from the aspsnippets site. The files are stored in a server folder while the location is saved in the database. The code below gets all files in the folder and binds them to a gridview.

Dim filePaths() As String = Directory.GetFiles(Server.MapPath("~/Uploads/2012/emp/"))
Dim files As List(Of ListItem) = New List(Of ListItem)
For Each filePath2 As String In filePaths
files.Add(New ListItem(Path.GetFileName(filePath), filePath))
Next
gvEmp.DataSource = files
gvEmp.DataBind()

What I want to do is to get only one file per user as the fileID along with the location is saved in for every user. I ran a query to get the fileLocation and pass that location stored in the database instead of the current server path but I can't figure out how I would do it.

Security :: How To Redirect Logged In User Based On Role

Nov 25, 2010

I want to know how can i redirect a user to a different page when he tries to access a page restricted to another role?

The scenario is as follows:

I have a folder "Gestao" that only allows users in role "Administrator"

[Code]....

If an anonymous user tries to access that folder he is redirected to the login page, but if a logged in user whose role is "friend" tries to access this folder he is also redirected to the login page. I want to redirect him to a page showing a message that he has no permission to access that page/area.

How can I do that? Should i have code on the Page_load event of the login page checking the user role and then redirect him to the correct page? Or is there some otherway to do this?

MVC :: Dynamically Render The Usercontrols Based On The Logged In User?

Dec 1, 2010

We have an application where the controls are dynamically added to the form based on the logged in user,

This user controls related data is stored in the database. There is lot of logic in the code behind in the asp.net webforms which is so messy to maintain it, we are planning to re-write it using the MVC framework.

I would say there would be rougly 50 different forms based on the user logged in, is it good idea to create so many views and redirect to the appropriate view based on the logged in user, in some of the forms there might be minor difference like the order of the Control might change.

Web Forms :: Streaming MP3s Based On Logged In User?

Apr 6, 2010

I have a requirement to be able to stream MP3s based on the user who is logged in. Eg, user 1 should only be able to listen to 1.mp3, user 2 should only be able to listen to 2.mp3 etc. All the mp3s would be stored in a particular directory on the server.

I am currently investigating the Silverlight audio player available at [URL]. However, I am unable to find a way to programmatically specify the file to stream once the user clicks the play button.

Are there any other media players/controls that allow streaming and also allow specifying the audio file to play programmatically?

C# - Login Page Can't Reference Other Files Without Being Logged In?

Feb 8, 2011

My login page has images and CSS applied to it. When I run my site locally (start without debugging), it brings up my login page, but none of my images are displaying and my css isn't linking. I'm referencing correctly, I promise. However, when I view this page in VS's Design view, it shows the images and CSS. Also, if I run it and log in, and click the back button, everything shows up (images/css)! But if I logout (which redirects me to the login page), my images/css isn't there! Its as if the page can't reference its own resources unless the user is logged in. WTH. I'm only having this problem on my local VS server; it seems to work fine when I put it on the live server (woot). Anyone know why this is happening?Here is a portion of my login page that is requesting the image/css:

<head runat="server">
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="styles/BodyLayout.css" />
<title>Optoma USA - Login</title>
</head>
<body>

[Code]....

MVC :: Display Workstation Logged On Username?

Dec 2, 2010

I was not able to find the post. I am building an MVC app and on the master page I want to display the user that is logged into the workstation. This is just an internal app so we were just going to use
AD authentication. I am not sure how ISS will be configured on the anonymous or impersionate part so I did this line of code in the master page

<%=Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("USERNAME") %>

Is this proper and the best way or should I look for a better way. I know this is generic but just curious.

Configuration :: ResourceManager And Resx Files - Files To Display Items In Multiple Languages

Oct 13, 2010

I have an application that uses resource files to display items in multiple languages. My app uses quote a lot of javascript and the alerts need to display in the local language. To do this, I have created an http handler which will read the keys and values of the culture-specific resource file and write them to a JSON array which is then embedded in the page in a script tag, the messages can then be accesses using, for exmaple:

Message.Error (en-GB = "Error", fr-FR = "Erreur")

The messages http handler works great in development, however when I run the application on a test server, I get the error: Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Resources.Alerts.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "App_GlobalResources.b0n9j90e" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed. The code that I use to acccess the resource file is:

ResourceManager manager = Resources.Alerts.ResourceManager;
ResourceSet resourceSet= Resources.Alerts.ResourceManager.GetResourceSet(Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture, true, true);

Where Resources.Alerts is the type that contains my multi-lingual definitions. The build action for the Alerts.resx file is set to "Embedded Resource". Any ideas why this works locally but not on my test server, am I missing something?

Security :: Way To Protect Files From Download

Dec 17, 2010

I'm working on a website that streams audio files for the user from a directory on the server machine. How do I protect the audio files from users being able to navigate to the folder and just downloading them locally, but still provide them access to stream them? If I set permissions on the folder via IIS, is there a level that I can set so that the server can stream but not allow anonymous access?I'm sure there is a tutorial or other thread about this out there, it's just hard to search for this specific issue. Any help or a simple link to another thread/tutorial

Web Forms :: How To View And Download All The Files Except .msg

Jan 28, 2010

I developed a datagrid in my aspx page which was to show all the files present (with details) in a particular directory on my webserver. The column containing the name of the file in the datagrid is a hyperlink and when you click on it you could view or download the file.

Everything works great. When I click on the file name, it either opens up the file in browser or asks me to save it except the fact that when I click on a file name with extension .msg (outlook message file) it says - The Page Cannot be found

The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable..

The files are very well present there in the directory! Moreover, same everything was working absolutely fine (even the .msg messages) in my local system during the application development.

I dont know if sending the code makes sense in this situation - because code is correct and is working as it should be. It looks more of an issue with internet explorer or probably somerthing with Production web server configuration.

Anyways the code for aspx and .cs files are -

ASPX - PAGE CODE

<asp:DataGrid runat="server" id="articleList" Font-Name="Verdana"
