Get DataField In BoundField?

Aug 16, 2010

I would like to find the Datafield Value in boundfield and set it to visible - false. I want to find the "ReceivPrice" DataField and it to visible after any conditions.

<asp:BoundField DataField="ReceivPrice" HeaderText="Price" SortExpression="ReceivPrice" ReadOnly="True" DataFormatString="{0:N4}" HtmlEncode="False">
<HeaderStyle Width="12%" HorizontalAlign="Right"/>
<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Right" />

Forms Data Controls :: Gridview BoundField Or DataField Has To Be Filled With The Value That Comes From Column1 Or Column?

Feb 4, 2010

I'm using a DataSet to fill my gridview. The dataset contains several columns, like: direction - fromNumber - toNumberThe column direction can contain the values "incoming" or "outgoing". In my gridview, I would like to show only 2 columns, direction and from/to. If direction = "incoming", the values from fromNumber has to be inserted in "from/to". If direction = "outgoing", the values from toNumber has to be inserted in "from/to".I know I can use a TemplateField to show different text values in a column...But I have no idea how to do this when I want to show the values from a column...

<asp:BoundField DataField="direction" HeaderText="direction" HtmlEncode="false" />

Databound DataField Not Getting Populated?

Nov 1, 2010

I'm currently analyzing the code behind for a web application. The Default page contains a GridView with several bound DataFields that are supposed to be populated, when the page loads and reloads, with data based on a URL parameter that's passed on initial load. The way it works in summary is this:

-I have a GridView1_Init method that is called when the page loads, this retrieves data using an OldDbConnection and a URL parameter appended as part of the OleDbCommand SQL statement.

-The data is read and stored in the Web.config file. At this point, when debugging, I can see and verify the there is data being retrieved.

-Now I'm calling a GridView1_RowDataBound method to populate each row. I have it in the Default.aspx page within the GirdView parameters as OnRowDataBound="GridView1_RowDataBound"

My problem is that this method never gets called for one of the URL parameters I'm passing and as a result the Databound rows in the GridView don't get populated and the page displays nothing. I have another URL parameter I use to test and it works perfectly with that one, i.e. the page loads with the Gridview displaying all the data as expected. I'm not sure why the method GridView1_RowDataBound is getting called for one URL parameter, but not for the other. I've debugged using both and also ran the query in SQL Server Management Studio and I am getting data back for both.

Is That Really The Possible Thing To Happen When Hiding A Datafield

Aug 23, 2010

My code below has a drawback. The scenario is this, i have two user roles - Approvers and Encoders. The encoders are not allowed to view the price only the approvers. Using the code below, i can now hide the Price column. but the problem is, when the encoder modified the quantity column, the Total Amount (Quantity * Price ) is zero. Giving zero value for price. When the approvers view the transaction,the Total Amount is zero. Is that really the possible thing to happen when hiding a datafield?

HTML Code:

For Each colField As DataControlField In colFields
If TypeOf colField Is BoundField Then
Dim bField As BoundField
bField = CType(colField, BoundField)
If bField.DataField = "ReceivPrice" Then
bField.Visible = False ' Hide Price Column
End If
End If
Next

C# - Bind Non-property To Datagrid Column DataField?

Mar 31, 2011

Let's say I have a DataGrid that looks something like:

<asp:DataGrid ID="SomeDataGrid"
runat="server">
<Columns>
<asp:BoundColumn HeaderText="A Header" SortExpression="Sort" DataField="Data"></asp:BoundColumn>
</Columns>
</asp:DataGrid>

In this Grid, I set the datasource to some collection that contains a public property called "Data" and do a databind(). Every works as expected.Now let's say I want to set the DataField attribute of the column to a public member, or a property, or some other thing I've computed. What is the easiest way to go about this without creating intermediate objects or adding public properties to the objects in the collection?So what I want to do is something like:

<asp:BoundColumn HeaderText="A Header" SortExpression="Sort" DataField="someMethod()"></asp:BoundColumn

Bind Datafield To Dropdown List With Hard Coded Values?

Jan 19, 2010

I have a dropdown list with hard coded values:

<asp:ListItem Text="One Day Shoots" Value="1" />
<asp:ListItem Text="Multi-day Shoots" Value="2" />

I want to use this to insert and edit values from a db. For example when adding a record the user selects 'One Day Shoots' and 1 gets inserted into the database. Then if the user goes to edit the page since the value in the db is 1 then the 'One Day Shoots' is selected.

One way I considered accomplishing this was by using a hidden feild - when the user selects something in the dropdown list the field is updated with the value, then when the user actually adds the record the value in the feild is submitted. I'm pretty sure this would work but is there a better way?

Forms Data Controls :: DetailsView - Binding Datafield To TextBox On Update?

Jun 29, 2010

I have a bound field in a DetailsView that I want updated with the contents of TextBox2.Text when I update. I have TextBox2 set AutoPostBack True. Cannot remember how to move the contents on update. I tried converting the "Description_Update" to a template field without success.

I can copy and paste the contents of TextBox2 into the DetailsView and it does update as do the other DataFields.

<asp:TextBox
ID="TextBox2"
runat="server"
Height="80px"
TextMode="MultiLine" Width="360px"
Font-Size="Small"
MaxLength="120"
Text=""
Font-Names="Calibri" AutoPostBack="True"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:BoundField
DataField="Description_Update"
HeaderText="Descrip"
SortExpression="Description_Update"
/>

Do I need to use adn Eval or DataBind function or both. I have triued several combinations and do nothing but continue to butcher the database tables.

How To Add A Css Class Name To A BoundField

Aug 12, 2010

I want to add a class name to some of my BoundFields in the GridView control; so that once the GridView is data-bound and rendered I can obtain something like:

<td class="Tag1">Some data came from data source </td>

The purpose of doing such a thing is to be able to find all the elements that are "Tag1" in this way:

var allTag1td = $('td.Tag1');

So, how can I add this class to the BoundField so that it is rendered in this way?

How To Use Hidden Boundfield In GridView

Feb 11, 2011

I am binding a GridView using a DataSource in asp.net, and i would like to have some hidden BoundFields so I can access those values in my RowDataBound Function. However, when I set Visible="False" on these BoundFields the values do not get set and are always blank in the RowDataBound function.

I've seen some suggestions of setting the style on the BoundField to hidden but this did not work for me either. Ideally I don't even want a column created in the gridview, I just want these values to be hidden so I can access them.

HeaderText='<% IF(Eval("Field2").ToString().SubString(3,4).Equals("Text3"),"Text1","Text2") %>'
SortExpression="Field1" />

I tried it and it just put "'<%IF(Eval("Field2").ToString().SubString(3,4).Equals("Text3"),"Text1","Text2") %>'" as the actual header string!

C# - Using BoundField.DataFormatString To Format Currency Data?

Mar 29, 2011

I have a gridview that I am populating with data for the folks in accounting and they want me to format currency values so that they display without $'s, with commas separating digits and with negative numbers surrounded by ( )

e.g.:

12345.67 = 12,345.67
-12345.67 = (12,345.67)

I have found lots of examples around the interwebs that get me close but there is either no ( ) around negatives or there is a $ included.
