Get Around Circular References In Visual Studio Web Project?
Mar 31, 2010
I am trying to create a set of WCF web services for an existing website that uses web site instead of a web application project. I would like to create a DLL that I drop into the Bin folder instead of writing all my code inside the App_Code directory. Ideally, I want to create a project and reference it from the web site, but I am running into a difficult situation.
The DLL will need to reference configuration and other DLLs located inside the bin folder of the website causing a circular reference. How do I get around this issue?

When I re/build my ASP.NET website I do not receive any errors. However when I PUBLISH the site, it gives me a 'Circular file references are not allowed.' error.
I read a little on the web about this, and it provided a batch='false' option, which I tried and does nothing.
The page, has a master page, which may call on the same control twice; however, this control does not refer back to anything

When I try to depoly my web project then it throws an exception as "Circular References not allowed" Those are two same exceptions for my template.master and Forummaster.master file. When I build my code then very rarely it throws an exception but I can not deploy my web project because for deployment everytime it throws same exceptions at the time of building web project for deployment.

I have a Visual Studio solution containing two web applications. I would like the first to depend on the second (pages in the first may contain links to, or possibly post to pages in the second). Furthermore, I would like to be able to launch the first project on a development server (standard debugging procedure for web apps in VS) and have the references to the second project be fully functional.Does anyone know the best way to achieve this?

Is there anyway to localise an external assembly reference? Here's my situation:I am working on Project A and it contains assembly references from Project B. Now when I release this Project to my client I don't want to have to include the whole of Project B with it. Is there anyway to force it to copy the dll's from Project B onto Project A and use those references? I can do this manually by copying all dll's to local project and re-referencing but just wanted to know if there is an easier way.

I am currently making the switch over from Visual Studio 2005 to 2010. In 2005, you were able to right click on the 'web references' folder and update all web reference within that folder. However, in 2010 I cannot see an option to do this - I have to update each one individually.Anyone know of a way of updating web references in Visual Studio 2010 en masse?

I have a .NET 3.5 project that uses a .NET 1.1 dll. When I copy the 1.1 dll into the location referenced by the 3.5 project, the 3.5 project will not compile until I close out Visual Studio and reopen the project. I think this is related to refreshing the reference to the 1.1 dll but I'd like a setting to auto-refresh the references.

I am developing a web site in Visual Studio 2008. I have a project for the web application and several class libraries as references. When I add the references I select the file under bin/debug in the class library folder. When changing the project to release mode the references still point to the .dll in the debug folder. Shouldn't this change automatically. How should I add the references so that debug and release are properly referenced?

I am using Visual Studio 2008. Last few days I am getting an error while trying to add or update web reference.
"The components required to enumerate web references are not installed on this computer. re-install Visual Studio."
I tried some commands like "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDE>devenv /resetskippkgs" in VS Command prompt, still I am getting the same problem.
I also found in one post to uninstall "Microsoft Source Analysis Tool For C#" from the machine. But in my machine the tool is not installed.

I recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
<div class='<asp:Literal ID="CssClassLiteral" runat="server"></asp:Literal>'>
It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?

I'm trying to create a MVC project inside of VS 2010 using Asp.Net MVC 2 RC2, using all the default settings and the default "Visual Studio Unit Test" framework and am getting 6 Namespace errors upon compile (without touching ANYTHING). Pretty standard setup. I removed the prior MVC versions before installing RC2 for VS2010 etc. These are the errors:
[Code]....
The namespace "AWWOAMVC" is empty (or so says Intellisense). Both of these reside in the same solution explorer, as it is brand new project.

I'll start off by pointing out I am on VS 2010 with a Web Application running against .NET 3.5 SP1 I have a Web Application that I've been working on for almost 2 years now, and suddenly I cannot add a new page to the project without it whining that 'Could not load type 'AA.Service.Pages.Folder_PageName'.' for any page I create 'AA' is the Root namespace defined in my project's Application tab in the settings... Since I started I have been namespacing my pages to avoid any possible conflicts with this pattern
[Code]....
and the aspx page would be like so:
[Code]....
That is the way every single page on the site is coded Now suddenly out of no where any new page I create throws 'Could not load type "AA.Service.Pages.Folder_PageName"' Every single previous page created in the project before today is exactly in the same pattern as above, refers to the same MasterPage, and works perfectly fine. I have done no window updates, VS updates or anything that could have caused this I don't even know where to begin. Trying to create a new blank, stand-alone, MasterPage-less page doesn't work either, same could not load type error I've tried doing stupid usual Microsoft tips like "reboot your computer" too.

I installed Visual Web Developer 2005 Express in Window Vista Home Edition. In this VWD 2005 Express, I can only create a new web site, not aweb project. So I installed Service Pack for this Express, vs80sp1-kb926751-x86-intl.exe. After this installation, I haven't found a new web project yet.
