View 1 Repliesi have a problem with the users authentication on my site. I made <authentication mode="Windows"> in my web.config. The LoginView shows "mycomputermyusername" if i request the page. So far as well. Now i want to login with a different username. Users are stored in an Active Directory. My questions: wich setting i have to do, that user's account and password checked by Active Directory? how can i force the system to make a new login? Logout doesn't work, i always see my on account.
View 1 RepliesI have the membership provider and the create user with tow steps, one of the steps contains a custom registration form, for each created user data will be in the database, and there is an account page shows the data that the new created user did insert during the registration process on the custom registration page,
the problem, when the user is created and logged into his account page, this account page shows only the information for the first created user, not the info on the logged in user , but the logged in user data still saved in database and not showing on his account page?
This is web.confg code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
If I'm correct the membership functionality separates account and user (profile) data in two tables. Why not one table? What's the design priciple behind this?
View 5 RepliesI have an ASP.Net app, that runs using windows authentication. The connection to the SQL Server is usually done by creating a sql server account and using that in the connection string.
However, in this specific very restrictive hosting environment, we have been asked to use a specific WINDOWS/active directory account to connect to the SQL Server.
note it is not the windows credentials of the user of the website, we need to connect to the SQL server with - it is one specific windows/AD account.
How do I configure that in my connection-string?
I have a requirement I should connect to MS SQL server under IIS Application pool account from ASP.NET application where Windows Authentication is enabled. I cannot use user name and password in connection string.
ASP.NET application should use Entity Framework 4.0 to work with data.
I have an application which is installed on local pc and is using SQL db. It is a client management system where I want to add capability to register new clients and give them access to my web site which is sharing the same SQL database with local application.
At the moment clients can register on the web site and I have ASP.NET authorisation system set up with aspnetdb_user, aspnetdb_membership and etc tables. But sometimes it happens that I need to register clients on my local application on PC and ideally would like that registration to create online account for the client as well. Then I want to be able to send him user id and password by email and let him know that he has been registered in my database and online account is ready for him as well.
Basically I want to have full synchronization between asp.net membership service and local application through SQL db. As I said both online and local apps are shareing the same SQL database. what would be the best practice to implement it.
My feeling says it's not posible but anyway I am curious if there is at least a workaround for accomplish this.Basically I am working at my client site and my machine is not connected to the domain.What I want to do is running a web application locally under a domain account, and using the webdev server.The webapp uses the default authentication, windows authentication that is.I tried using impersonation with domainuser & password but I got the following error Could not create Windows user token from the credentials specified in the config file. Error from the operating system 'Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.I have to mention that the username and the password are correct.

View 3 RepliesI would like to do a connection of asp.net page with Sql Server. Here I would like to read the Windows user account name and pass in the connection.The connection should be Windows authentication. IIS server and Sql server are installed in different machine. Here I am able to connect locally, When I am running from server, It takes windows account of Server.
so i can read local account(Where user is accessing the web application) and make windows authentication sql server connection.
I am able to get a token with Windows Live Delegate Authentication samples provided by Microsoft.
Now I want to access emails (New, Read, Unread etc) from live account. How can I achieve it with the help of Windows Live Delegate Authentication? Are there any examples for the same?
The Samples given by Microsoft are not related to emails.
If a user has signed into their computer and are connected to an intranet, is there a way to grab the users crendtials and authentication them in asp.net? What specific code would do this?

View 4 RepliesIn IIS 7.5 server I have a website apps.mydomain.com. Site binding for this website is:
IP: All Unassigned
Port: 80
Host name: apps.mydomain.com
In DNS there is an ip address pointing to apps.mydomain.com. Site comes up fine when browsing to this hostname.
I want to get current windows logged in username from asp.net web apps. I enabled windows authentication and disabled anonymous. Using this ASP.Net code to test:
Response.Write(Page.User.Identity.Name);
However, browsing to http://apps.mydomain.com/site/ the application pool identity shows as the Page.User.Identity.Name value and not the current windows logged in username.
If I browse to http://servername/site/ then Page.User.Identity.Name will return current windows logged in username.
Is there something else I need to configure to get the current windows logged in username when using host header?
web.config:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<system.web>
<authentication mode="Windows"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
App pool config (left out "handlers" for brevity, there's a 30000 char limit):

We have an ASP.NET Web App, where we want to provide a link 'Sign in as a different user' on a page. Authentication mode is Windows. Went through a couple of articles (like setting the statuscode =401). We want to authenticate the user, and then redirect him to a specific page (say 'ReviewTask.aspx');
View 2 RepliesMy ASP.NET app is using windows authentication. If I run the following code:
WindowsIdentity wi = (WindowsIdentity)User.Identity;
foreach (IdentityReference r in wi.Groups)
{
ListBox1.Items.Add(r.Translate (typeof (NTAccount)).Value);
}
if (User.IsInRole ("Everyone"))
Label1.Text = "Is in role";
The listbox will contain the name of every group the user belongs to. If I then call User.IsInRole, and pass in the name of any of those groups, I always get a false.
I am working on an application that uses windows authentication. Within this application, we give the user the ability to change their password. The user can change the password just fine. However, after they change their password, that is when things get weird. Sometimes they can navigate through the application just fine. Other times, they click on a link and are immediately prompted to supply credentials. Occasionly they can click on a link but upon a second click they are prompted to supply credentials. Does the browser keep a token to the original credentials and use this when they request the next page? If this is the case, why can i continue using the site sometimes? Can I change the password and then assign that token to the request?
View 1 RepliesI am evaluating ASP.NET Membership for an intranet Silverlight app. I want users to be automatically authenticated for my application with their windows logon. Thus I configured Windows Authentication. I would like to store user settings like email-address in using the SqlMembershipProvider and not AD. It seems that storing user settings using the SqlMembershipProvider is not supported with Windows Authentication. Is this really so (using .NET 4)?
If so: What is the rationale behind this? IMHO authentication, user settings and authorization are distinct aspects. User settings could easily be stored (identified by user name) using the SqlMembershipProvider with authentication and password management being supplied by Windows. What is the recommended solution for my scenario?

View 4 RepliesI have an Intranet web site that uses Windows Authentication and when a users password expires the do not get a prompt letting them reset it. We also have OWA and if they go there to check mail, it sends them to a page which allows them to reset it there. How can I trap for expired passwords and allow them to change it like they can with OWA?
