I have a sql data souce that returns several columns of data, and they are displayed in a DetailsView on a pretty simple vb.net page. I'm stuggling with one field though for the details view.
It's a template field, and if ClientType=1 (this value is determined else where on the page), then the label in the template field should have Text='<%# Bind("ClientName") %>', but if the ClientType = 0, then the label in the template field should have Text='<%# Bind("ClientTemporaryName") %>'
How do I tell the details view to set the text for ClientName to one or the other?

I have a relatively complex dataset (numerous tables, some with multiple records) generated from reading in an XML file. I need to connect said dataset fields to an ASP form. At the moment I'm assigning them manually, like so in the pageload:
txt_first_init.Text = formData.ds.Tables["phrmHdrKey"].Rows[0]["first_init"].ToString();
txt_last_name.Text = formData.ds.Tables["phrmHdrKey"].Rows[0]["last_name"].ToString();
ddl_pregnancy_flag.SelectedValue = formData.ds.Tables["pPhrm"].Rows[0]["pregnancy_flag"].ToString();
And conversely when it's time to submit.

I did some looking into binding the textboxes (and dropdownlists, and checkboxes, and and and...) directly, but it seemed to be too many formats to use.
So this works fine, but as the number of fields increases, those load and unload lists are going to get unwieldy.
I am using TempleteFields for all columns in my GridView. In that columns I am using only some fields for customization but not all.
Is there any performance issue with Databound Fields vs Templete Fields in a GridView...?
Do I need to replace the remaining columns with Databound Columns instead of TempletField columns...?
I am working on Crystal Reports 8.5 and SQL Server 2000 as backend. I have a stored procedure which has been added to the Crystal Report. So that fields are visible in the Fields object section from where i can drag and drop the fields on the report and display it. But now as they want more fields i have written two select statements for displaying required fields. But these newly added fields are not visible in the Fields object section in the Crystal Reports. I have done verify database, removed and again attached the SP but the problem is not solved.
View 1 RepliesI have a GridView, and I want Column1 to be equal to datatable data (filled by a SqlDataAdapter). Then I have two other fields by the SqlDataAdapter (first name, last name), and I want to have those two fields combined to form Column2. I have a TemplateField for my GridView that combines the first name and last name with Eval()'s, but the GridView places this combined field TemplateField and puts it as the first column.
How can I do this so that TemplateField can go in between fields that are databound?
What's the best way to approach the following situation in asp.net mvc2 (c#):I have a form where a user can add more fields ... for example I ask user the details of personal computing devices that they have. For simplicity sake let's say I ask for the brand and type (dropdown list of Desktop/Laptop/Tablet/Other) and they can provide unlimited devices. I will start with a pair of text boxes:

I need to retrieve text from form fields in the documents and then insert these into a SQL server. I'm completely new to this kind of thing. Can anyone outline the principles behind what I need to do, or point me to a site which will explain it in simple language.
View 2 RepliesI was wondering if people out there test the length of their text values before inserting them into an SQL INSERT or UPDATE command? I got lazy and stopped doing it lately but I do restrict the length of some of my character fields so that I have a NCHAR(50) field but don't test the length of the string when inserting or updating and just rely on the server to fire back any problems.Am I being 'efficient' or 'lazy' or even 'dangerous'?I appreciate the opinion of you as just about anyone has more experience with SQL Server than I do.

My problem is that I want to display a watermark on password field i..e Enter Password. But it is appearing as **********. I have seen it on facebook that when i see it first time text is appearing 'Enter Password' and when i enter my password it appears as *****. I know that with some dirty workarounds I can fix it. I'm new to ASP but not programming in general. What I'm trying to accomplish is to have an ASP page where an EU can make some selections and input some text into fields and, upon clicking a submit button, have that input transferred to an access (.Mdb) database's table. I'm not sure how to go about this though. I don't know if it would be an SQL line or a dump to a different file type and then to Access (.Mdb) or something I don't know about.

I have a number of GridViews and FormViews working now, with edit functionality. However I have one field in my main database table that is of type 'Text'. With that one field, the edits won't take. I click Edit, change the text in the GridView, and click Update, but it just reverts back to the unchanged text.
It seems like I've tried everything. Is there a way to make that work without having to code it the hard way with a Textarea control?

I've a asp.net form and user enters some data in the text boxes provided. Whenever user submits the form, browser will save that form data. I don't want this form data to be saved in browser. How can I restrict the browser saving this form data without touching the browser settings?

I am adding text fields to a page from the database. I set the .ID to match the record ID from the database. Of course becasue the text field is on the masterpage, when I grab the .ClientID, it is ctl00 contentMain$ctl00. what I don't get is where is my ID? If I set it to say AB how do I find the textbox by AB? I thought it should have AB in the ID somewhere. ID is nothing which I don't get either. I'm looping through the controls in a placeholder like this

Again though what is in the row() is say AB but the id is way off from that.
i am developing an application using ASP.NET with C#.Net and SQL SERVER 2005. here i am importing data from excel sheet to database.in my excel sheet some fields have large data.and for those fields i had taken NTEXT as data type in my database.when i am trying to import the data,the fields which have large text are not inserted completly.i.e some data is missing. the field in database accepts the data upto some characters only.what would be the reason for this? and which data type can i use for inserting large data?

I 'm trying to figure out how to make an HTML/ASP page where a user puts in data, either in text fields or selection boxes, and on clicking a submit button all of there selected data gets dropped either into a Access 97 Db or an excel spread sheet. Are there any examples out there of this? Is there a place that has already created this and I can just look and the code and figure it out for myself?
