How To Connect SQL Database On Website From Windows Forms App
Jan 16, 2011
I've returned again to my problem of trying to connect to the SQL database on my website from a Windows forms application. I had some success but then I was playing around with some things and deleting stuff etc to see what would happen. I deleted the Database that I successfully connected to and added a new database for reasons I won't go into. Now when I try to connect to the new database I don't have success.
we are migrating existing windows form application to asp.net(3.5) intranet portal, there is a requirement whereby database connection should be made by the logged in windows user. Is it possible to achieve this functionality?
I have a website used by clients for reporting purposes and would like to give clients the option of my website reading their local database directly (instead of them providing data in a file format). In most instances their database would be SQL Express setup on their localhost.
How can I connect to a clients local SQL server via my website, using asp.net / javascript etc? If the client provides their connection string properties, localhost would just refer to my server's localhost...
Consider the following :Most people connect to the internet via an ISP. THeir database will run on their localhost and will not have a public address as such.Ideally, the client must supply some connectionstring (database name, login etc.) and my server must connect.VPN's wont work for this - I must connect to them (in a programmatic way) and pull data, not the other way around.
i was trying to create new user for using login which i have created (user id and pswd) so i click asp.net configuration ,then after clicking security to add new user i got error as shown in bracket(There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

I am have problem getting the security selection to view properly. Instead of getting roles and so on I get this following error message:There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. I wanted my local iis running application to connect my database in sql authentication mode rather than windows mode,
but it is showing errors of " Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'DBUser'. ". i also ublocked port from firewall, and allowed remote connection of mssql from sql manager, enabled TCP/IP and named piped protocols from SQL surface config, and with sql manager i also changed server authentication mode to sql from windows. my datastring is <add connectionString="Data Source=PARTHIV-PCSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb;User ID=******;Password=******/" name="LocalSqlServer" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
i made a user named DBUser in database as well i don't understand where it gone wrong ???
I have a website that occasionally needs to have a handful of the tables in its database updated. The updates come from another system that exports to comma delimited text files. I can then either FTP the text files to the web server, send them in through an admin upload page, or manually log in to Remote Desktop to download the text files. I have all my C# code written to parse the files, check the database contents, and decide what to do.
Should I code the sync logic to be part of a file upload page, protected in the admin section of the site or should I create a Windows Service that constantly looks for files to process in a particular directory that I can drop files in through FTP?
I have used Windows Services in the past and they have worked great, but if I ever have to make a change to the code it can take longer than it would if I just had to modify an ASPX.
Are their security benefits one way or another?
Performance benefits?
ASPX page wins the "ease of maintenance" category.
I have been trying to avoid the windows login userid and password window when I use the Windows Authentication mode for a web site. I need to capture the the windows logon user name without prompting for the user id and password and display that on the web site. I had tried almost everything... changed authentication, security setups on IE and IIS etc... still not being able to avoid the window...
I'm trying to enable automatic Window authentication working on our ASP.NET Intranet. I've changed the Authentication on our IIS 7.5 server from Anonymous to Windows Authentication Enabled only, and changed the Web.config file for the website to:
The Windows login box appears when accessing the website via IE 8, I enter valid credentials, but the login window keeps reappearing as if it does not accept my credentials. By repeatedly cancelling the login box it disappears, and my login name can be viewed on the website. Is there any possible reason for the login box to keep popping up even though valid credentials are being entered? I've restarted the servers / cleared browser cache etc. Also, ideally I would like the user to enter the login details once in the login box and not be required to reenter login details whenever he reopens the browser.
I'm running windows 7, so I installed on my machine the oracle client version 11.1.0.7.0 (ODP.NET - Oracle.DataAccess version 2.111.7.20) . I'm trying to deploy an asp.net web application to a server that is running windows 2003, which has the oracle client version 11.1.0.6.0 (ODP.NET - Oracle.DataAccess Version 2.111.6.20)
Now when I compile my application and deploy it in a setup project (as pre-compiled). The start page of my web app tires to connect to Oracle and it returns the following error message:
"Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.111.7.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
Which is super weird because, cause the web.config file as shown above has Version=2.111.6.20.
Now the strange part is that if I copy the source code from the client to the server, the same code, same config file, it works just fine.
So I'm thinking that the pre-compiled version is telling the server to load Oracle.DataAccess Version=2.111.7.20, maybe in one of the dlls, not in the config file for sure.
Has anyone run into this problem?
what's the best approach to deploy to servers with different oracle client version? (I have a similar problem trying to deploy to a 64 bit machine)
I have an existing windows .net application that has an access database as the backend.
I want to place the access database on a web server and it was suggested that I create a web service in order to communicate with the database.
I've been looking at some tutorials but am still confused about the basic config needed. Here's some questions I have:
1) Does the web service need to be created inside my current project by right clicking on the solution and choosing to add a new web site...and then selecting web service?
2) If it's set up like this, what files do I place onto the web server?
3) Where does the database reside? Do I need to place the database inside the web server that I create?
4) My current project has existing sql that gets data and I'm uncertain how to re-write in order to retreive the data. e.g. which part goes into the client and which part goes to web service pages? here's an example of a procedure that currently exists...I'm getting data to populate a dropdown:
when I call the web service from the windows service. But I can visit this web service through IE and I also wrote another console application to call the web service and it works fine, too.
The exception infomation is below:
A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network 127.0.0.1:8888
I try many methods, like turn off the firewall and anti-virus software, set the web services proxy property to null. but still cannot solve this issue.
I have an ASP.Net app, that runs using windows authentication. The connection to the SQL Server is usually done by creating a sql server account and using that in the connection string.
However, in this specific very restrictive hosting environment, we have been asked to use a specific WINDOWS/active directory account to connect to the SQL Server.
note it is not the windows credentials of the user of the website, we need to connect to the SQL server with - it is one specific windows/AD account.
I have a ASP.Net application, that has barcode scanning functionality built into it.If a user is on regular computer like laptop or desktop, then I can simply connect the USB barcode scanner to the USB port and the barcode functionality works fine. But if a user is accessing the ASP.Net application over a windows mobile device, then how can a barcode scanner be connected to his/her mobile device?
in my ASP.NET applicaton I have ftpdata folder, where is MS Access 2010 somename.accdb file. On my local computer (Win XP), there is no problem to connect with OleDb to this file and read write datas into and from tables. But on server (Windows Server 2008), I cannot connect to the same file like on localhost.
My workstation does not have Internet access, but it uses a DNS server on the LAN. Every time I start any ASP.NET application from Visual Studio with either F5 or Ctrl-F5, the workstation (I don't know whether it's Visual Studio or Webdev.Webserver.exe) asks the DNS server for the IP address of "time.windows.com". The application is not started until the LAN-only DNS server returns an error, which results in a 10-second delay, during which the Internet Explorer is started, but displays a white background. Is there any way to prevent these connection attempts?
im trying to connect a loginname to a data base so when ever a button is pressed the name in the loginname is inserted into the database i tried this code but didnt work :
start with database connectivity and web form, i have created a simple web form like user name with email address, i just want to maintain a database for it.
I have created a web application and an SQL database using Web Developer 2010 Express. I have SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio Express. In order to deploy the database to my hosting space I need to create a .BAK file from my new database. I think I can do this from with the Management Studio, but can't figure out how to get it to connect to the database. I have used Management Studio before to retore another SQL database and the only connection I see when I open the Management Studio is the old connection to the old database. How do I connect to my new database?
i am making a simple login page in asp.net using c#. I didnt want to use the Login control available. how am i suppose to connect to the database which will store the information about the user id and password. And then will redirect me to a new page.
