My team is currently working on a substantial update to an existing ASP.NET 3.5 application which uses the Ajax Control Toolkit on virtually every page. We've found that in many cases that its use is unwarranted (clearly a previous developer decided to "Ajaxafy" everything), and a richer - and simpler - experience can be found using jQuery.We've also found that the AjaxControlToolkit can be a pain to work with frankly in terms of maintainability and performance when you have half a dozen developers working it. We're debating scrapping its use completely, and going with jQuery for the UI experience. We're fortunate to have enough time to do this safely, and every feature we use can be replicated without any problems (AutoComplete, Calendar Control, etc).It seems Microsoft are siding with jQuery with its addition to Visual Studio lately, and the current Ajax Control Toolkit isn't in ASP MVC (client side files only). Therefore I'm personally siding with jQuery for the moment, as it seems to have a future, while the Control Toolkit's future is a little more cloudy.However, from a maintainability perspective, how is jQuery to work with?
It's essentially just Javascript, so no plugins required. Are updates stable, and do they often break existing functionality?

The ASP.NET page has a "Filter" component and a "Apply Filter" button. The "Filter" component consists of 4 UI controls as below:
1. A dropdown list with prepopulated values like "Name", "Department", "Building", "Email Address".
2. A dropdown list with four operators - "Equal", "Not Equal", "Like", and "Not Like"
3. This is a dynamic control. It could be a textbox or a dropdown list. If the user chooses "Name" from the first UI control, the third UI control will become a Textbox. If the user chooses "Department" from the first UI control, the third UI control will become a dropdown list with all departments within this company pre-populated.
4. A button with AND expression. If the user clicks this button, one more Filter component will be created.
One possible user case is like this:
ASP.NET: when the page is loaded, it displays one Filter component (3 UI controls and a AND button), a "Apply Filter" button, and an empty "Filter Result" data grid.
I managed to see pictures in a Gridview (I am kind of new to Asp.net) and, with some javascript, I see a pre-formated picture before the pics are retreived from database. I tried to put an animated GIF instead of a static one but the animated GIFF doesn't animate.

I'm using the Ajax control toolkit Combo box for filtering purpose. If the number of items in the combo box is more and when i try to select an item in the drop down list, the scroll bar in the list automatically flickers in Internet explorer.I read the known issues section in the Asp.Net Ajax control toolkit website, and they say that When ListItemHoverCssClass is specified and the ComboBox list is scrollable, highlighting a list item will cause the scrollbar to flicker when using the Internet Explorer web browser. To avoid this issue, do not specify the ListItemHoverCssClass property.Am not using any ListItemHoverCssClass Property but still it flickers. Please help me on any work around to solve this. I know Auto Complete extender is a best solution instead of combo box, but the clients need combox that should list everything along with editing in the text box.
