View 2 Replieshow can you reset asp control inside a form using javascript?

I have a couple of fields on a form that will be populated with default values. I would like to put a button that will allow me to reset those fields to their default values if they have been modified. However I would like to avoid the postback so that I don't have data being sent to the database. Is it possible to add a javascript hook such that when that button is pressed I can pull the default values and populate those fields in javascript?
View 1 RepliesScenario:Own rolled jQuery Ajax post to validate an input field on unfocus Standard submit button for post on form
If I cause validation to fire and wait until I see it complete in firebug then click save all is fine. If however I leave a change in a field and then click the submit button directly (so both ajax and standard post happen at almost the same time) the request hangs in the browser before returning a 'connection reset'. If running in VS debug I see nothing unless I hit pause. I am then presented with the following callstack:
System.Web.dll!System.Web.Hosting.IIS7WorkerRequest.ReadEntityCoreSync(byte[] buffer, int offset, int size) + 0x23 bytes
System.Web.dll!System.Web.Hosting.IIS7WorkerRequest.ReadEntityBody(byte[] buffer, int size) + 0x18 bytes
System.Web.dll!System.Web.HttpRequest.GetEntireRawContent() + 0x2d4 bytes
System.Web.dll!System.Web.HttpRequest.GetMultipartContent() + 0x45 bytes
System.Web.dll!System.Web.HttpRequest.FillInFormCollection() + 0xad bytes
System.Web.dll!System.Web.HttpRequest.Form.get() + 0x45 bytes
System.Web.dll!System.Web.HttpRequest.HasForm.get() + 0x46 bytes
System.Web.dll!System.Web.UI.Page.GetCollectionBasedOnMethod(bool dontReturnNull) + 0x62 bytes
Background:ASP.NET 4 MVC 2 Web application with some legacy webforms pages (the page involved in both the ajax post and standard post is the same webforms page) running locally on Win7/IIS7.
I could potentially disable the submit button while the ajax validation fires. However even if I do that I'm intrigued to know what has caused this seemingly time based/concurrent request problem.
asp.net using visual studio 2008 3.5 framework with sqlserver 2008. I have a webform (derived from master page) so its a content form with content placeholder. It has two text boxes, dynamically populated checkboxes from database and 8 radio button groups. It has two custom validators attached with two of my fields also. I've tried every way to clear my form but its not working somehow. I've tried Control iteration method. Ive tried btnReset.Attributes.Add("onClick","document.forms[0].reset();return false;"); thingy...but none is working.
View 4 Repliesi am using this code to reset all my textboxes and Dropdowmlists after the button is clicked:
void resetField(object myObj)
{
//RadioButton rl;
string temp = myObj.GetType().ToString();
switch (myObj.GetType().ToString())
{
case "System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox":
((TextBox)myObj).Text = "";
break;
case "System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList":
((DropDownList)myObj).SelectedValue = "N/A";
break;
default:
break;
}
}
i have tested this code and it works great separately .. the only difference is on my project i have DIV, tables, TABs and ContentPlaceHolder. not sure if this can make this code not working.. i am not getting any error..but nothing is happening.
We are using Ultramain(DB: Oracle 10g and Language: Progress) as a MRO application for aircraft health check. Ultramain has more than 3000 users and using this application around the world. Users are forgetting the password frequently and we are getting the mail minimum 10 password reset from the user. I have planned to create a website for reset the password themselves if user valid. Only one button in the website called "RESET". If user click the reset button, it should check the user have already access using the table called "USER". If users have access, it should check the user authentication. If users does have access, the message appears "You do not have an access". If authentication success,update thepassword from the table "RESETPWD" to application table "USER".
Table:
USER --- application user table
User_ID
User_name Password

Table:
RESETPWD ---- temp table for encrypt and decrypt password.
Encrypt
Decrypt

I have a form action in an ASCX page set to an external URL
<form id="fLoginForm" runat="server" action="http://external.url" method="post" defaultbutton="bSignIn">
Inside there is a standard ASP linkbutton
<asp:LinkButton CssClass="btn" ID="bSignIn" runat="server" Text="Sign In" OnClick="bSignIn_Click" />
The event "bSignin_Click" never gets fired when I have ction="http://external.url" set on the form tag. However when I remove the action, it works as expected. I thought for runat='server' forms, the form would always post back? I need to read the URL from the action attrib and then redirect to it with some hidden input values also in the page.
I have Web page that uses LinkButton control inside Template Fields of Gridview.I am trying to work on LinkButton Click event and trying to preserve the Value of LinkButton that user click, and based on that value, i want to refresh tha page data.I used CommandName and CommandArgument property of Linkbutton, but i can use that property only in GridView_RowCommand method by checking e.CommandName expression. But the problem with that Gridview_RowCommand event fire after all other page_load activity. So the value never used in the page_load event to refresh the data in all other control.
View 5 RepliesI do some stuff with dynamic DropDownLists. A choice at one level makes the next level appear and so on.
When I open up an old report for editing, the first level is not editable so I set that DropDownList to Enabled=false (still dynamically in code).
My problem is that when I press save (a LinkButton) I first come to my OnInit as usual and check the Page.Request.Form for my DropDownLists, but then the first list is not represented.
But if I change one of the lists when editing, a postback is made, then there is no problem at all with the Page.Request.Form, the first list is there all the time.
Is there some fundamental difference with causing a PostBack from a LinkButton vs a Dynamically Added DropDownList?
i have created loing form and create user form. then how to apply login rights..? i have 2 types of user. admin and normal user admin can move and use all pages while normal user can acces limited pages.

Is is possible to build a form, accept parameters and from THAT construct a new .ascx page AND the code behind for that page? What I'm proposing is having some code snippets that just need parameters added and can then be used to create a web user control that can be added to existing pages. This .ascx file would be a real file after creation, not dynamic every time.
View 1 RepliesMy issue today is that i have a MySQL Database and am using the security framework provided by the ASP.NET Membership and Role Providers...I override the default methods with my own MySQL.
Now the issue comes in when i someone would like to have their password reset. My application is running entirely on an Intranet so i cannot have their passwords emailed to them. Is there a way i can have this information displayed in any way so that the user can use it to Log Reset, Create Accounts or Recover their lost passwords on an intranet without the administrators intervention?
Recently i had an approach as follows. In my web.config<system.net><mailSettings><smtp deliveryMethod="pickupDirectoryLocation" and my location was a folder on C drive as c:/SavedPasswords. Now i understand this was such a big security threat and thats why i am looking for a better option.
I would have that folder created using my System.IO and then the Mail is dropped into that folder. Then after the process is successful, i tell the user to check into that location and Read its content.
Then there is a global variable that is set to true...meaning that the folder at c:/ has been created. then there is a Method in a certain class that once it sees this variable True, it reads the readers c:/ and deletes that folder "save" if it exists;
This is a weird issue. I have a List view with 2 Link buttons. "Edit" and "Delete" Iam able to attach an event handler for the first linkbutton(Update). Code in the event handler executed fine. But If I try to attach a event handler for the second link button(Delete) , I get an error.
My Item Template Looks like this.
[Code]....
First Item works absolutely fine. But If I attach the second handler, I get the following error
Am I missing some thing ? Note - There is no error if I try to attach the 1st event handler to the second link button.[ie EditLinkButtonClicked to DeleteLinkButtonClicked ] Issue occurs only when I try to attach DeleteLinkButtonClicked to DeleteLinkButton
Should we create a class for every form we create,that will us to do the validations etc etc?
View 1 RepliesWhen a user that has their IE set to save passwords hits my "Reset Password" form, the first text box set with TextMode set to "Password" is populated with the users saved password. Understandable, this is not the affect I would like as this is their "old" password. I cannot set the text of a text box with mode set to "Password" (naturally). Does someone know how to suppress or clear this value when IE is saving passwords?
View 4 RepliesThe following works just fine in Chrome.
<asp:LinkButton runat="server" ID="lbEdit" OnClick="lbEdit_Click">
<button type="button" class="edit">
Edit
</button>
</asp:LinkButton>
And here is the CSS for button and its subclass.
[code]...
As you can see, nothing special; just colors and beautiful things.
I click on the blue Edit button and it fires the OnClick postback just fine.... in Chrome! But if I do the same in IE8, it just does nothing; doesn't even detect a click.
I removed the tag and kept just the word "Edit", and it works just fine in IE8 as a simple underlined link; the postback fires.
So, Why can't IE8 accept anything within LinkButton?
