Database - Caching A Dictionary For Foreign Key Values?
Apr 10, 2010I have a Dictionary<int, string> cached (for 20 minutes) that has ~120 ID/Name pairs for a reference table. I iterate over this collection when populating dropdown lists and I'm pretty sure this is faster than querying the DB for the full list each time.
My question is more about if it makes sense to use this cached dictionary when displaying records that have a foreign key into this reference table.
Say this cached reference table is a EmployeeType table. If I were to query and display a list of employee names and types should I query for EmployeeName and EmployeeTypeID and use my cached dictionary to grab the EmployeeTypeIDs name as each record is displayed or is it faster to just have the DB grab the EmployeeName and JOIN to get the EmployeeType string bypassing the cached Dictionary all together.

Dec 30, 2010I have my project set up with the virtual path "/MyVirtualPath", create the virtual directory in IIS 6 (W2003) and everything works fine. Then to work better with Google Analytics I change the virtual path "/myvirtualpath" and change all redicecciones and links to lowercase. also applies the class "lowercase route urls in aspnet mvc" and works perfectly.
The problem I had to modify the virtual directory in IIS, delete virtual path "/MyVirtualPath" and I created the new "/myvirtualpath", but in all cases I use tilde "~" or where I make a "RedirecToAction" (which should take "LowercaseRoute"), continues to maintain the virtual path "/MyVirtualPath". For example, if I see the HTML source code in the browser, see "/MyVirtualPath/Content/Site.css" instead of "/myvirtualpath/Content/Site.css. "

My requirement is instead of getting the PromotionID values displayed for columns CustomerPromotionDiscountID & EmployeePromotionDiscountID, it should display the respective DiscountAmount. Which is not happenning for some reason.
I somehow found a workaround where if i define the datatype for columns CustomerPromotionDiscountID and EmployeePromotionDiscountID as nchar or nvarchar, it displays the DiscountAmount.
Wanted to know if there is any better way of doing this without changing the datatype for my columns?

My also have included CSS Friendly adapter [URL] in my project ( I mentioned this because my GridView Empty data template is not showing when using GridView's CCS Friendly adapter). I had set the relation to cascade for update in the dataset and the HierarchicalUpdate to true. But stil when I run TableApapterManager.UpdateAll(dataset), I get a foriegn key violation error. Oct 25, 2010I'm having a gridview in my aspx page with checkbox, User can select one or more than one record(s) at a time and clicks on delete button, Then i'm constructing an object of my DTO and adding all the checked row's Primary Key (DataKeyNames - GUID's in case) to a serializable class and generating an XML and sending it as parameter to the Stored Procedure.
My Doubt is, can i bulk delete all the rows from database table those are present in my XML document??
If it works, I can do bulk update with XML only, i already did bulk insertion by generating an XML..
My Another Question is, Will it affect the performance? Each time when i construct an DTO object and adding it to the Generic List??
WHich one is better, I mean ObjectDataSource or SQLDataSource or my XML method?

Getting "60|error|500|Error Serializing Value Case Of Type Case" When Go To FF And Run It
Feb 14, 2011I have a custom object that I'm throwing into the viewstate on an async postback. If I step through the code, I can put the object into the viewstate, then call the object from the viewstate and cast it with no problems. The code, when stepped through, has no issues whatsoever. However, when I go to FF and run it, I get "60|error|500|Error serializing value 'Case' of type 'Case.'" First thing that hits me as weird is that the value is being named as the type. It's not like value oCase (an instance of Case) of type Case. I've checked that all containing objects are set for serialization, compiled and rerun the web app.

Nov 18, 2010How do I reference the delete button to add the delete confirmation box when I have both the Edit and Delete buttons as the last two columns in the Gridview control. The following code works fine without any issues when I have the delete button only:
