View 1 RepliesI am interested in building an intranet document management system to be used from Internet Explorer using ASP.net, VB.net, and MS SQL Server but have no experience in doing a project like this. Supported file types would be txt, pdf (from scanner or imported from file system), or jpg. What concepts I should look at researching/learning about to build the system in a way that files will be stored as small as possible, retrieved and displayed quickly, and secured. The users would be spread out over a regional area covering 4 states.

I have both a details view and gridview with deleting enabled. I'm concerned about users accidentally clicking delete, and poof, the record is gone. Is there a setting to get a confirmation message before the delete is actually done?
View 4 RepliesHow do I reference the delete button to add the delete confirmation box when I have both the Edit and Delete buttons as the last two columns in the Gridview control. The following code works fine without any issues when I have the delete button only:

I have a confirmation button that appears when an end user highlights a Customer Name and clicks the link to delete. The confirmation prompts: "Are you sure you want to delete this record?"

As shown in the image above, the web site(presentation layer) will work closely with the Business Logic layer(BLL) and Data Access Layer(DLL). ObjectDataSource control will be the middle man to select, update, insert and delete the data in the gridviews.
During Select, returned data from the database at DAL will be stored in a datatable and return to BLL and then the website itself.

However, the Update(command button) and Delete(template field) doesn't work,the RowUpdating and RowDeleting event wasn't trigger when I click on the button, but it works if I set the gridviews' datasourceid to the objectdatasource.
I am using VS 2008 SP1. My also have included CSS Friendly adapter [URL] in my project ( I mentioned this because my GridView Empty data template is not showing when using GridView's CCS Friendly adapter). I have a GridView and a DetailsView. When a record in GridView is selected its details information is shown in the Details View. Type of Data source I am using is ObjectDataSource. The data in the returned datatable will be filetered by type using RowFilter method and stored into the 3 dataviews. I'm a novice programmer and I have this situation: I have a nested Gridview, and I want to be able to DELETE the records in the nested Gridview. I have no problem inserting new records with the nested gridview, but it does not execute the DELETE Command on the SQL Datasource. I checked that the DATAKEYNAME on the nested gridview includes the the parameter that is used in the DELETE SQL Command on the SQL Datasource for that Gridview. But it seems to me that the parameter value is not being passed to the SQL Datasource by the nested gridview. Maybe I need to use a difference approach to execute this on a nested gridview compared to a regular gridview.
View 4 RepliesWithin my ItemTemplate on a listview i have a link button carrying out a delete command. As it's a custom command i use the ItemCommand to do the deleting and have a stub itemdeleting.
It works fine set out like this however i only want the delete button to be available to logged in users. If i wrap the linkbutton in a loginview and then click on it the ItemCommand and ItemDeleting never get called the page just refreshes.
Here we have a function The 'ConfirmDelete()' which is executed each time a click event occurs on the page.
2. Then we use a logic that to find which element was clicked on i.s we append a word 'DELETE' to the ID of the control.
3.And finally check if the clicked element having ID is 'DELETED' , then the javascript function will be execute to ask the user about his/her confirmation.

I'm using the asp.net membership on my website. On the User Administration page i've got a GridView to show the details of the users on the site. As a datasource rather than just using the Membership.GetAllUsers function i've got a SQLDataSource as i need to display user information from 3 different tables. I'm trying to add a delete button to the GridView. I'm setting the Membership's UserName as a DataKey and then using the RowDeleting event to call Membership.DeleteUser for the appropriate UserName. This works fine and the user is deleted however i then get an error showing up that "Deleting is not supported by data source 'SqlDataSource1' unless DeleteCommand is specified."
I don't want to use the SqlDataSource for deleting as i've already done it using the Membership. How can i stop it from trying to do this? Here is the cut-down that i have if you're interested. The selectcommand in the sqldatasource was auto-generated by it.

currently have a page that I use to allow users to edit information for their attending group. They can edit names, sex, tshirt sizes etc. All they have to do is selsct their club from the gridview and the details are bound to the detailsview. They edit then click submit. What I now want to accomplish is a similar page that deletes members. I know gridviews come with a delete button you can enable, but I need it to fit in with my custom code-behind. I want users to select the member they want to remove from their registration, that persons details to pop up as text in the details view positioned below the gridview (as text, not as text boxes), ask them to confirm the delete by clicking the delete button in the detailsview. I'm really not proficient at VB or ASP.Net, I just got thrust into this project, so any help would be amazing. I'd like to know how the thing works though. Below is the code I use for the editing.
