We are in the process of migrating our current asp.net gridviews to silverlight grids. The challenge that I am facing here is that in the gridview, the grid is bind to a dataset/datatable. But in silverlight, I do not have dataset/datatable available in the silverlight class. So only option is to create a Webservice and convert the dataset that I am currently getting from business layer to a class that imlements IList<> (unless there are any other ways). Now to convert this dataset to Ilist, I have to loop through the dataset to load the List. In my current dataset I have almost 10,000 records or even more in some cases. So the response time will be really slow.Are there anyways to
1) Load the List from dataset directly without looping through ?
2) Fetch the data from database directly to a List without having loading the dataset ?
Is there a straightforward way to create a dataset after querying a dataview? The query itself returns DataRowView objects, which I cannot get to work with CopyToDataTable().
The query looks like:
Dim dvQueryView As DataViewdvQueryView = (dataview object of large dataset) detailTableQuery = From rowView As DataRowView In dvQueryView _ Order By sSortOrder _ Select rowView _ Skip nQuerySkipRow _ Take nQueryCountRows
I only want a small selection of records from the large dataview and use those to create a smaller dataset. The large dataset stays in place while multiple views are created from it, and then from those views I want to create the smaller datasets.
I'm trying to find an easy way to view the query that has been generated as part of the LINQ to DataSet syntax in my application. I found Scott Gu's blog and his creation of the Linq to SQL Debug Visualizer but it doesn't appear to work for my application. I am using OracleClient if that is important.
My next step is to simply configure the Oracle Manager for the database to see the query but I can't believe there's not an easy way to view this generated query.
I am trying to run a linq query but I need the result as a datatable as I am using that to store records from different queries in the same viewstate object.The 2 versions below compile, but return an empty set. The exact error is "Value cannot be null.Parameter name: source". (and yes I have checked there is data):
MyDatabaseDataContext db = new MyDatabaseDataContext(conn); IEnumerable<DataRow> queryProjects = (from DataRow p in db.STREAM_PROJECTs.AsEnumerable()
So the BlogPostTags table only contains 2 fields, BlogPostID and TagID.
When i run the query above i get 3 results back. Same blogpost 3 times but with 1 tag in each. It should return 1 post with 3 tags. The problem lies in the Tags query above.
I am using Linq To Sql to get List of objects with data from database. To bind data with a grid view i am creating a dataset explicitly and then adding List values to that explicitly created dataset.
Now my question is whether it is a good pratice to do what i am doing (in terms of resource utilization) or is there any better way to this...
I am converting my datatable to LISt using LINQ how do I handle nulls coming from database
List<Port> portDetails = new List<Port>(); DataTable dt = ds.Tables[0]; portDetails = (from q in dt.AsEnumerable() select new Port { PortCode = q.Field<string>("Code"), ExtCode = q.Field<string>("Nb"), Name = q.Field<string>("Name")) }).ToList();
In the above query if Code is null I do not want property portcode to be set to the value it should only set if it is not null or not blank PortCode = q.Field<string>("Code"),
What should be syntax I was trying somethign like this which doesnt work Portcode = q.Field<bool>("Code") == null ? null : q.Field<bool>("Code")
I've got a gridview that will allow clients to edit options they've already entered on another page. The gridview has three radio buttons in it each with a value of 1,2,3. The option value in the dataset is 1,2 or 3 respectively. I would like to have the radiobutton with the corresponding value selected in the gridview so they can see what they previously chose and will then be able to edit, if they wish.
I have a relatively simple Listview that suddenly needs (due to new requirements) to have it's 'layout' extracted to a DataTable so that a common routine can convert it to an Excel spreadsheet for export purposes.
The ItemTemplate is just a series of Table Rows with some text, data-bound labels and textboxes with validators in the cells.
Usually, when trying to pull out a particular value (like what was entered into a text box), I use the ListViewItem's .FindControl method.
For Each objItem As ListViewItem In lvwOptions.Items Dim objTextHrsLabor As TextBox = CType(objItem.FindControl("txtHrsOptByLabor"), TextBox) decHours = CDec(objTextHrsLabor.Text) Next
In this case, however, I'm trying to take all the data displayed - all the 'rows and columns' of the table that was created.
Inside the ForEach / Next loop of ListViewItems, I started a ForEach/Next loop of Controls for each instance's controls but I got some really strange results returned (like controls that had a couple of table cells in them).
I get the sense I'm headed in the wrong direction. All I want is for the nicely-formatted 5-line, 6 column table to be converted to a 5-line, 6-column data table.
Like that I have large number of controls on my form. I have dought, if I assigned like this, db.usp_ATI_FetchPatientDetails(iPatientID).ElementAt(0).Last_Name.ToString(); to every control, then I have set of controls like,
My question is that, for each control the Stored Procedure called or not? If it is yes then it is time consuming and I need to use LINQ to DataSet or LINQ to Object rather than to call SP for each control. What is difference between LINQ to DataSet and LINQ to Object?
I need to extract chinese characters from the query string in a ASP.NET web application. When I tried it, I get "????" instead of the actual text. I know I need to decode it with UTF-8 but its doesnot work. I have used String text = System.Web.HttpUtility.UrlDecode(Request.QueryString["text"], System.Text.Encoding.UTF8);
I put a dropdownlist in a template field with 4 choices with the values of each to a,b,c,d and when i run the update query i need it to pull from that selected row,and read the value selected in that field. I tried this:
@choice = SelectedRow.Cells[9].Text.ToString() but it didnt work
how can i extract data from a dropdownlist thats inside a template field and use in a update query?
If I need to fetch one whole column from Table1 in the DB, should I fetch it using datatable or dataset? I can do both ways. I mean ok I should use Datatable. Why is that? What would happen if I use Dataset? ok that's what I wanted to know. So there's memory issue. I mean whatever I use be it Datatable or Dataset, both will be fetching only ONE column frommy table in DB. How is Dateset's gonna use more memory then?
I've build a linq query.But i want a random selection so its not always ID : 1,2,3,4,5,6 How can i randomize this var? I like to bind it to a repeater.//TagCloud:
Random rand = new Random(); var tc1 = from i in JumpTide.cms.menu.GetMenuItems(32) select new
I want to extract list of parameters with data type and length.For example i give name of sp and i can able to find the list of parameters thet the sp expact with datatype and length of parameter.
