I have searched the internet for help and found windows forms based information, but nothing to really help me with ASP.NET, and anything that could possibly be of any assistance to me is written in C#. I have already built a logon form that hands forms based authentication against AD, and now want to display that authenticated user information.

Apr 17, 2010I have 3 IIS7 virtual directories which point to the same physical directory. Each one has a unique host headers bound to it and each one runs in its own app pool. Ultimately, 3 instances of the same ASP.NET application.
In the Application_Start event handler of global.asax I would like to identify which instance of the application is running (to conditionally execute some code). Since the Request object is not available, I cannot interrogate the current URL so I would like to interrogate the binding information of the current virtual directory?
Since the host header binding is unique for each site, it would allow me to identify which application instance is starting up.

Mar 22, 2011I am new to web forms, but how can I populate a web form (form fields i.e. name, job title, tel no etc) with that users information automatically taken from their active directory profile? It wouldd be an Intranet application so all users would be on the domain. How is this done in ASP.net? In Coldfusion I would set the following variable

Then I would query an employee DB matching up the userid to gather their employee info

and then set variables which I would use to populate the form fields further down the page

Aug 10, 2010I am currently useing forms authenticantion with users set up with the Membership API and I have there other information like first name and work phone number stored useing the Profiles API. I want to create a company directory useing a grid view to display every user and there profile information. I can use Membership.GetAllUsers() or ProfileManager.GetAllProfiles() but it does not list any of the custom profile information like name and phone. What is the best way to get a grid view to show all the user information?

I have disabled anonymous access in IIS. Also i have given Read & write access to the account tang09 for the website virtual directory and Microsoft.NET folder located in windows folder. But still i get prompted for the domain username and password to access the website.

Jan 19, 2011I am making an online form (literal form) that needs to have a certain function: when the user enters a 5-digit number, the form should automatically query the MS SQL DB and retrieve information associated to that number and populate other form elements (text boxes, etc.) accordingly.
So say the # was 12345 and in the DB, the record matching 12345 has name=Fred. So, when I enter 12345 into the form textbox, the name text box should be automatically populated with Fred in it.
If this is not easily achievable, I guess a submit button beside the 5-digit number text box can do.
I am still learning my way around ASP.NET and Visual Studio 2005, however I have ample experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C/C++. The ASP.NET app is to be written in C#.

Nov 10, 2010I have a WCF service in a virtual directory that is called in the code behind of a page that is in the parent directory, when i debug the code i can see the wcf service is being called, however when the service calls Membership.GetUser() it alway returns null. The user has already logged in to the asp.net site. When i call the service via jquery it does pick up the correct user, but i need to be able to call it via the code behind as well. I am developing in .Net 3.5 how i can make the Wcf pick up the logged in user?

Sep 9, 2010I am using Directory entry of System.Directoryservices class of Asp.net for authenticating against Sunone LDAP server. The following works fine.

Now I want to be able to authenticate all the users of different organisation units. e.g. ou=development,ou=accounting etc., So I specified like this, entry.Username = "uid=thost,ou=people,ou=devlopment,ou=accounting, dc=domain,dc=com"; but it says "There is no such object on the server". I also tried putting ou in URL. I am not sure where should I specify this OUs to make my search broad. I found a lot on internet but no success so far.

Oct 27, 2010I made a web form on a development website of mine (we'll call it dev.somewhere.com) and tried to publish it out to the web (we'll call it [URL]) in a subfolder. I named it default.aspx like I was supposed to and it worked flawlessly on the dev site. When I published it out the web, I wound up getting the following error when trying to get to the subfolder: [URL] Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. Confused and flustered, I tried to go to [URL], but I wound up with some error that won't tell me the problem. Instead it tells me to change the my web.config to read <customErrors mode="Off"/>.

Feb 3, 2010I have a page that shows a list of the files in an upload directory. ie: My customer uploads a file through my web page and the file ends up in the proper directory. When I click on a file name, the url path is missing the directory name. It's as if my customer uploaded directly to my root. Interestingly, when I upload a file through the same web page, the path remains intact and I am able to click on the link and download the file. How can I get the proper path in my url name. which only returns the project DLL, but i can't figure out how to move up a few levels from there or what .net library to use to navigate around the path.there's no ../.. :(Basically i want to navigate to the Content/xsl folder which is at the same level of the Bin directory.

I m giving user a choice to enter user name once he enter the name i should be able to search in active directory and return all user starting with (inputed name).
