I have a page with outputcache right above the action in a controller class. What I want is to disable this outputcache for myself. Can it be done by IP?

Something like that: [OutputCache(Duration = 60, VaryByParam = "None", IgnoreIP = "100.100.100.100")]

C# - Clear Client Output Cache On Log Out

Jul 20, 2010

My web client requires client-side output caching since it makes use of its own Back and Forward buttons (which basically just call the browser back/forward buttons).

The issue I'm having, however, is (of course) when the user signs out of the app. The client-side output cache remains so anyone can click the "back" button and it appears to be signed in again. I've researched a few solutions, but most involve server-side output caching or no output caching at all.

I've had success with server caching and HttpResponse.RemoveOutputCacheItem, but unfortunately I need the client side caching.

Is it at all possible to clear this client side output cache upon logging out?

Get The Client Ip Address In MVC?

Apr 5, 2010

i'm totally new to the asp.net mvc stack and i was wondering what happened to the simple Page object and the Request ServerVariables object? basically what i wanted to do is to pull out the client's pc ip address. but i fail to understand how the current MVC structure has changed all of this. as far as i can understand, most of the variable object has been replaced by the HttpRequest variants? really a sea of stuff to learn in the asp.net mvc world :) For example i have a static class with this current function. how do i get the same result using asp.net mvc?

public static int getCountry(Page page)
{
return getCountryFromIP(getIPAddress(page));
}
public static string getIPAddress(Page page)
{
string szRemoteAddr = page.Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_ADDR"];
string szXForwardedFor = page.Request.ServerVariables["X_FORWARDED_FOR"];
string szIP = "";
if (szXForwardedFor == null)
{
szIP = szRemoteAddr;
}
else
{
szIP = szXForwardedFor;
if (szIP.IndexOf(",") > 0)
{
string [] arIPs = szIP.Split(',');
foreach (string item in arIPs)
{
if (!isPrivateIP(item))
{
return item;
}
}
}
}
return szIP;
}

And how do i call this function from the controller page?

Getting IP Address From Client

Mar 23, 2016

I have an asp app we use to collect data. I did not write this and I know nothing about asp, however I am tasked with modifying the app. I am trying to collect the ip address of the client and put it in a text box. First piece of code is where I added the new text box.

Code:
<tr><td>Facility:</td><td><input id="facility" onfocus="processgetip(event)" /></td></tr>

I then created a function named processgetip

Code:
function processgetip(event) {
// Within this function, make an AJAX call to get the IP Address
$.ajax('@Url.Action("GetIPAddress","getipaddress")', function (ip) {
// When this call is done, your IP should be stored in 'ip', so
// You can use it how you would like
// Example: Setting a TextBox with ID "YourElement" to your returned IP Address
$("#facility").val(ip);
});
}

I then created a controller named getipaddress:

Code:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Net;
using System.Net.Http;

[code]...

Now with all of that it will compile and run using the localhost but it's not working. Not getting any errors it just doesn't return anything.

How To Get IP Address Of The Client User

Jun 7, 2010

I used following methods
HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_ADDR"]
Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_HOST"]
Request.UserHostAddress
Request.UserHostName

All the above are returning "127.0.0.1", not the actual IP.

The below one returns null.

HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"]

Below one always returns where the application is hosted/running, not the client's IP address.

string strHostName = System.Net.Dns.GetHostName();
string clientIPAddress = System.Net.Dns.GetHostAddresses(strHostName).GetValue(0).ToString();

Acquire Client's MAC Address?

Is there a fairly simple way to acquire a client's MAC address from an ASP.Net web application.

I'm 4.0 all the way, and I'm using Visual Studio 2010.

Edits

The one jmccarthy linked too, is not the same. My requests are NOT coming from a web browser. I should have been more clear.

We need the a solution for our ASP.NET website. in which a user needs to activate his machine and next time if he visits the site then we need to check the machine is activated or not. if the machine is activated then we want to redirect the user on different page.

Is there any way by which we can get the client machine MAC address and store it our database?

I have found some solution in which this can be done but it works on on IE and some ActiveX setting needs to be done.We want this should work on atleast IE and FireFox.

Client IP Address In C# (.asmx) Webservices?

Mar 28, 2010

I am using ASP.NET (.asmx) web services with Silverlight. Since there is no way to find the client IP address in Silverlight, I had to log this on the service end.

These are some methods I have tried:

Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST")
HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_ADDR"]
HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"];
Request.UserHostAddress()
Request.UserHostName()
string strHostName = Dns.GetHostName();
string clientIPAddress = Dns.GetHostAddresses(strHostName).GetValue(0).ToString();

All the above methods work fine on my local system, but when I publish my service on a production server, it starts giving errors, Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. StackTrace:

at System.Web.Hosting.ISAPIWorkerRequestInProc.GetServerVariable(String name)
