JQuery Undefined In Content Page When Using Master Pages Which Has JQuery Reference?
Jul 19, 2010
I have a nested master page. A parent master page, a child master page and a content page whose master page is the child master page. I have a reference to jQuery in the parent master page in the head section.<script type="text/javascript" src='<%#ResolveUrl("~/includes/jquery-1.4.2.min.js") %>' ></script> & Page.Header.DataBind(); in the OnLoad event.
I am using jQuery in all the pages including the master pages. However I am getting "Error: $().ready is not a function" in the content page. If I include jQuery reference in the content page it works. Question: If the reference to jQuery is in the master page head section, why aren't the content pages able to use jQuery? When I do view source, the script tag with jQuery is there and it works. The master pages and content page are merged during rendering and sent to the browser as a single html page so I am not sure when master pages are used, jQuery references break.
UPDATE:
When I changed '$.ready(function()' to 'jQuery(document).ready(function($)' it worked! I am not loading any other javascript libraries and I am not using MS Ajax.
one juvenile question , i am having a asp.net intranet application which is using jquery, instead of ref jquery to every page, i decided it to put it on the master page inside the script manager scriptReference tag. note not all pages of my application requires jquery, so is it a wise thing to do, or it will affect the performance,
I have implemented a lot fo JQuery features into my ASP.Net web application. I am using JQuery, JQueryUI, JQuery Validation and a couple of other plugins. They are all coexisting and working fine. This one page in my app has the JQueryUI tabs, Modal progress pop-up working just fine. This page also has a couple of JQuery AJAX calls to my server side events. That all works fine!
I just added a Jquery date picker to one of the text boxes on the first tab on my data entry form and nothing happens or is displayed when you click on the date textbox. I am going to post the HTML markup for the page and my JQuery code. Please let me know if you see anything glaring? HTML
I am using Asp.Net C# 2.0. My website is working fine in local. Website contains 2 js files included in master page. It works fine in local environment, but when i publish my website i get "Object expected" error on page load, and thus the js functions are not working in published website.
Currently i am writing <script src="/javascripts/jquery.hotkeys-0.7.9.js" type="text/javascript"></script> in master page.
I have a site where I am trying to implement a jQuery UI based MessageBox in my master page. Content pages are arranged accoring to business area folders, i.e. '~/Branding/Contracts.aspx'. I find that when I load such a content page, jQuery, which is referenced in the master page as below, does not load. I assume that this is because the browser is requesting 'Branding/Scripts/jQuery What can I do about this? I don't have the 'root' operator in a plain 'script' tag.
All my app are master-content design. Questions: Where to load jquery? In master page or content page? There is no head tag in content page, if loading jquery in content page, how to load it?
I think my main problem is actually more to do with master pages that anything else.. Below is a description:
If you use master pages in your website and you have pages in different sub directories then the simplest way to add JQuery references is using <script src='<%# ResolveUrl ("jq.js")%> /> in the master page header??
This means that the .js files are correctly referenced in all pages that use the master. My main problem is that intellisense only seems to work for JQuery when the JQ Script is actually referenced in the header and not by using ResolveUrl('') <script src="/scripts/jq.js" />
I dont want to have to live without intellisense, Surely there is a way to get around this. What am I doing wrong.
How to I put this form on my page? The problem is I have a master page which wraps the content pages content in the ASP.net form, I can't nest the forms.
how can i add title and meta tags for content pages in a project base on master and content page(dinamically) ?
i used the blow method for master page :
[code]....
and the error is :(in line *)
Error 17 'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition for 'SetMetaTags' and no extension method 'SetMetaTags' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?
And in the content page, I created a VERY simple script to load the Date Picker, as per JQuery UI demo page. I always get a 'Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method'. Here's my content page:
The CSS folder is in place, and pure JQuery calls work. This simple datepicker is not working with this master page / content setup. I've tried many combinations for the datepicker ID, using ClientID (as is), UniqueID, [id$=datepicker], etc. Can someone shed a light on this? What am I missing?
I have been trying to implement the following jquery lightbox sample in master pages [URL]. I can not get this to work. I keep getting property not valid error. I can get it to work in a web page, which is not part of a master page.
some sample code to work with jquery in content pages. For example my jquery code for validating username availability works in web form but not in content page.
I am trying to get the inPlace editing functionality. But this time its in Master page of an ASP.net application. I have a label control (for title of each web page) on master page. And in my content page I want to allow user to edit that title. Scenario is that Label should be converted to textbox when user click label. edit and then when textbox will loose focus, it should be converted to updated label. I don't want to change my master page contents. Otherwise may be I can add a hidden textbox on masterpage to replace it with label. But my concern is that Can I do this without editing my master page? I tried to work with JQuery .replaceWith() method. But I am new to JQuery and asp.net. I tried stephen's solution but getting object not supported Javascript runtime error. JS Code is given as :
Problem: Postbacks are causing eventtarget errors because they are going back to the aspx page where the tabs are defined instead of going to the href page. I have a main page called Default.aspx. On it is the setup for the jquery tabs using ajaxoptions.
Default.aspx javascript for tabs:
[Code]....
The dropdown is filled during the page load of lists.aspx. How can I get the postback to go to lists.aspx instead of back to the Default.aspx? I tried using IFrames and it worked great for postback issue but not for dynamic loading of pages. It loaded all pages up front which is not ok.
I have a web page using MasterPages built in Visual Studio 2010 Pro. Currently, in the Head of my MasterPage file, I have my reference to my jQuery 1.4.2 file. When I go to a content page referencing the MasterPage I don't get any jQuery intellisense support. (Looks like I just get JS support?) What is more frustrating is the lack of Intellisense in my User Controls (.ascx) - It makes sense though since VS has no idea knowing if my UC will be loaded into a MasterPage referencing the jQuery.
My Scripts folder has one file - jquery-1.4.2.min.js
I have an asp.net content page which is used inside of a master page (with header, menu and some links). I would like to reuse it in a different context without the master page (to not display the header and menu there), or with an empty master page if this is somehow possible. I don't want to violate DRY principle by taking the whole page and creating a standalone clone of it for obvious reasons. Is this somehow possible ?
I have over 300 content pages to create. Each has some standard styling. I would like to generate these pages, and was just wondering if there is a utility in web developer 2008 express to do so (otherwise I will just build one - but it would be great not having to do so!)
I have some of the methods in the master page,I want to inherit the master page to content page and use its methods...How will be able to do that..Do we have some techniques with inheritence? Please specify the techniques andPlease in C# with Code Behind...
I am attempting to access a textbox control on a master page from a code behind base class but having problems. I have 3 levels of master pages. m1.master is the master page for m2.master which is the master page for m3.master.m3.master has a textbox as shown below
