Javascript - Disabled Link Button Still Submitting In Webform?

Dec 15, 2010

I'm trying to disable a link button to prevent the user from submitting several times.

I've seen many questions like this here on SO, most people suggest the following javascript:

button.disabled = true or button.disabled = 'disabled'

Which indeed disables the button (the button is greyed out), but the problem is that it's still clickable, and still submits!!

Here is my stripped down code:

function ValidateButton(button){
// some other code
button.disabled = true;
button.value = 'Processing...';
}
<asp:LinkButton Text="Submit" ID="btnSubmit" runat="server" onclick="btnSubmitRow_Click" OnClientClick="return ValidateButton(this);"/>

Why is the button still clickable, and submits after being disabled ? The button text is still "Submit" not "Processing...', why?

Link Button And JavaScript / Change A Standard HTML Input Button To A Link Button

Mar 1, 2011

I need to change a standard HTML Input button to a Link button but am running into problems because the existing

code calls a javascript function. The function basically does the same as the browser back button. When I add the code and

set the property runat="server" I get a "CS1026: ) expected".

Quite new to ASP,net (VS2010) so could be going about this the wrong way.

Form Is Not Submitting Via Javascript On A Button?

Sep 27, 2010

My website has been created with a CSS/HTML frame work that has been integrated into an ASP.NET website. Inside of a ContentPlaceHolder, I have a simple login form. The catch is that I am using the onclick event of an image to submit the form. It normally works pretty straight forward, but this time I am having an issue.

<div id="login">
<form action="index.aspx" method="post" id="nothingForm" name="nothingForm">
</form>[ code]....

I have to stick another form before the real form to make onclick="document['loginform'].submit()" actually work. This should not be the case, of course, but I was unable to find any solutions to it on the web.

Web Forms :: Disabled DropDownList Does Not Appear In Page - Request.Form When Submitting Via LinkButton

May 25, 2010

I do some stuff with dynamic DropDownLists. A choice at one level makes the next level appear and so on.

When I open up an old report for editing, the first level is not editable so I set that DropDownList to Enabled=false (still dynamically in code).

My problem is that when I press save (a LinkButton) I first come to my OnInit as usual and check the Page.Request.Form for my DropDownLists, but then the first list is not represented.

But if I change one of the lists when editing, a postback is made, then there is no problem at all with the Page.Request.Form, the first list is there all the time.

Is there some fundamental difference with causing a PostBack from a LinkButton vs a Dynamically Added DropDownList?

Javascript - Disabled Radio Button Losing Value After Postback

Feb 14, 2011

I have two radio buttons that are disabled with javascript when the page loads. RadioButton1 is checked by default. When I click the button to do a postback, the RadioButton1 is no longer checked.

Here's my code sample. The code behind is empty.

<asp:RadioButton ID="RadioButton1" runat="server" GroupName="group" Checked="true"/>
<asp:RadioButton ID="RadioButton2" runat="server" GroupName="group" />
<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button"></asp:Button>
<script type="text/javascript">
window.onload = function () {
var RadioButton1 = document.getElementById('<%= RadioButton1.ClientID %>');
var RadioButton2 = document.getElementById('<%= RadioButton2.ClientID %>');
RadioButton1.disabled = true;
RadioButton2.disabled = true;
};
</script>

Disabled Submit Button & Javascript Error Outside Update Panel?

Jun 2, 2010

[URL]

I'm using the code the above and running into an error i can't quite figure out. Maybe its something simple or maybe it's something that can't be done. Not sure.

I created a user control (button) that references a javascript file like this:

string url = ResolveClientUrl("./Scripts/main.js");
function SubmitButton_Click(e) {
try {
var src = typeof (event) != 'undefined' ? event.srcElement : e.target;

[Code]....

The error that i am running into is this:

The buttons in the update panel work everytime without any problems. When i click a button in the update panel and then click a button outside the update panel it chockes on this line of the above javascript.

src.aspnet_onclick();

The value of aspnet_click() is 'SubmitButton_Click(e)'. This is incorrect which causes it to choke.

The value should be 'onclick(event)'

For some reason when click the button inside the update panel and then the button outside the update panel causes this javascript error but I am not sure why the aspnet_onclick() is incorrect.

Javascript - Unable To Bind Event With Link Button On User Control

Nov 3, 2010

There are two user controls, which are built dynamically.

In the first control, I am adding a link button, and trying to attach a click event on the same. But the event is not fired.

Actually the main goal is, when the link is clicked, based on which one is clicked, I need to show second control (the values on the new controls are based on the first controls link button that is clicked).

If I use javascript, I will need to use ActiveX or is there any other way to instantiate the second control using javascript

Web Forms :: Link Button With JavaScript / Window Updates But Does Not Refocus By Putting It Back On Top

Feb 12, 2010

I have a link button on my page which has both an Oncommand event and an OnclientClickevent.

The idea is that the oncommand updates some data via a postback and redisplays the page with the updates. The onclientclick event opens a new window.

The new window is named so there is only ever one instance of it.

What I'm trying to do is this.

Open a new window (if its not already opened) and ensure it is on top of the parent window. The new window is a smaller size so the parent window is still visible beneath. On the first occurance the new window opens above, however when I refocus on the parent to click again, the new window updates but does not refocus by putting it back on top.

Unobtrusive Javascript Validation Not Submitting Form In Asp.net Mvc 3

Dec 24, 2010

I'm using the latest RC with asp.net mvc 3, and have turned on unobtrusive javascript validation and added the necessary scripts to the page. All of the validation works perfectly, but when I try to submit the page, it simply doesn't post. If I turn unobtrusive javascript off in the web.config without making any other changes, everything works perfectly fine.

Here's my scripts I'm using:

<script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery-1.4.4.js")" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.js")" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.unobtrusive.js")" type="text/javascript"></script>

How To Add Some Javascript Tracking Code Into A Text Box For Submitting

Feb 3, 2011

We have a site were trusted users can add some Javascript tracking code into a text box for submitting, so naturally we have turned off Validation by adding the ValidateRequest="false" into the Page Directive.

However it we seem to be getting the error again all of a sudden : A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client , Now we cant add ValidateRequest="false" into the Config or the Master page this page inherits from. So how do I allow Javascript to be posted, what is overridding the ValidateRequest?

We are using .Net 3.5

2. On button click event of a save button on that aspx page, I need to read the selected values from that user control on further postback.

If I write the loadcontrol code in link_click event, the control is not recognized at all in the button_click event. When I shift it to page_init and execute only during not postback, the user control loads with default values.
