I'm looking for possible ways for sending files from browser to server.
One obvious way is using form with enctype='multipart/form-data'.
I wonder if there are other ways than this.

It's not flash based, but it sends the file in a way that it gives you a progress bar, but when you send a file with form with enctype='multipart/form-data' the whole file will be send to the server so you can't actually show a progress bar of uploading process.
I've been reading a lot of articles containing tips regarding in creating commercial websites and it seems the client's screen resolution is a factor here.
I'm wondering if there is a way in VB.NET to detect the screen resolution that your client is using? I really don't want to use JavaScript here, since the some clients disable the use of JavaScript.
And also, is there a way to load a Stylesheet based on the client's screen resolution? For example...

I can get client screen resolution using client side script 'javascript' but i dnt want to do that I also tried Request.Browser.ScreenPixelsWidth but it always return fixed width 680.
View 1 RepliesI built a new .Net website which will fit nicely on 1200px width resolution.The problem is that some of my users will browse this website with 1024px width.Is there a way to fix this problem quick without changing all the design of the page? For example, to put some javascript that will do the trick.Please keep in mind that the top banner of my site is 1200px wide, and I don't need to support less then 1024px resolution.
View 3 RepliesI've got an ASP.NET application which allows users to enter their username/password in various places (e.g. login, change password, change username etc..). When I logged in, the browser asked if I would like to store the user details. Usually, I click 'no', but this time I decided to click 'yes'. Now, certain textboxes in my form are prefilled with the username or password. Is it possible to remove these, as they sometimes appear in textboxes which shouldn't be prefilled. I tried setting AutoCompleteType=none and Text='' but it still gets prefilled. The textboxes don't have much in common, except the same CssClass and, for password boxes, TextMode=password. The names are different, although sometimes they include the word name (e.g. fullName, userName). Is there a way to stop the browser from filling certain textboxes?

There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.

I have a simple web page as below named eventviewer.aspx. I host it in a server under the default website and when i browse it from the INETMGR it opens and displays teh events.
But when i try to open it from another machine, by reqyestiung the page, it just shows the heading and not the grid. Can you provide some inputs??

View 2 RepliesI am trying to make a client side browser within my webpage so that the user is able to open the file chosen and read the contents in a textbox.
I've read a lot on the internet and all i came across was how to upload a file.
Is that possible to get the proxy settigns right across several browsers, such as IE, firefox or safari from Asp.net? According to someone it is impossible because ASP.NET runs on the server, and therefore has very limited access to the client's settings.
But having said that, HttpBrowserCapabilities is able to retrieve plenty of information from a client machine, so i thought there is must a way to also retrieve the proxy settings on client's browser/s.
Is there a way to get the precise client's operating system, coz the HttpBrowserCapabilities.Platform property doesn't give me the precise client's operating system.
I want local/Client machine ip address, for that i have written below code. but this code gives me Application server address where my web site is hosted. where as i wanted client machine IP from where my web site is getting accessed. so if my website accessed from 10 different machine in that case i want 10 different IP address of those machines.

I have always continued to keep all of my code in codebehind that I would need to be secure, and don't make any calls to my database with javascript out of concern that a hacker could see the strconnection, username, ect. Is there a highly secure way to communicate with an sqldatabase with Javascript, or should I continue to do things the way I have done them?

What will happen to asp.net membership if the client browser blocks cookies? Does framework throw an exception when a user tries to log in or do something else?
View 3 RepliesHave some problems with client side validation (using RequiredFieldValidator, RegularExpressionValidator, CustomValidator with client side validation logic). It seems that WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions is not fired or causes unhandled exception that makes the form to do the postback regardless it's valid or not.
I tried using a ValidationSummary, hiding it if javascript is supported:

Every thing works fine on Chrome with disabled javascript on my laptop, but not on my Android phone. The problem is that on the phone Javascript is not disabled, it's enabled, and correctly hides the ValidationSummary, but does not perform client side validation for some reason that i can't understand (no developers tools on Android browser :(( ).This is very frustrating! :(
