Keep Leading Zeros In A OleDbDataAdapter?
Jan 13, 2011
I have understood there is no way to keep leading zeros in a OleDbDataAdapter?
Im trying to read some data from a text file with:
MyCommand = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT F7, F5, F9, F1 FROM " & System.IO.Path.GetFileName(bonnerfil.PostedFile.FileName), MyConnection)
I have managed to keep leading zeros if I add a Schema.ini file into the directory with column set to Char.
But, when having a Shema.ini the select statement reads from start to end of the file. As you see in my select statement I prefer/must have the coulumn 7 first being read and so on. This do work and I will have get the result I want. But for now it´s either - get the order of columns correct or have leading zeros.
how can I either have a Schema.ini that reads the file in the order I want, or keep leading zeros and not have the order I want.
Code:

I have a string coming from a stored procedure looks like '001234567'.
sqlCommand = new SqlCommand("csp_Bbp_OBN_GetBasePageList", BBConnection);
sqlCommand.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure;
sqlCommand.Connection.Open();
// Run the SQL statement, and then get the returned rows to the DataReader.
accReader = sqlCommand.ExecuteReader();............
In my case, from the stored procedure I am returning the varchar, after executing and reading it I am getting the value to basePage.GrouNum which is a string. So, I don't see where it is trimming the leading zeros.
Example: GroupNumber in the table is : "001234567"
BasePage.GroupNum after reading from DataReader : "1234567"
But, I do not want the leading zeros being trimmed.

I realized this has been asked multiple times before, but I still haven't been able to get it to work. I'm trying to export a Gridview to Excel without losing leading zeros. Here is my code. Add added the STYLE lines to try to fix the problem.
Dim attachment
As
String =
"attachment; filename=Awards.xls"
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.ClearContent()
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", attachment)
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "application/ms-excel"
Dim sw
As
New StringWriter()
Dim htw
As
New HtmlTextWriter(sw)
gv.RenderControl(htw)
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(sw.ToString())
Dim STYLE
As
String =
"<style> .text { mso-number-format: ; } </style> "
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(STYLE)
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.[End]()

I am running a query on an Access 2000 database from my C# code. Whenever any part of my results contain a dash (-) then my adapater will not fill and will just show no rows. So what I did was use the Replace function in the Access Query. Of course once I did this then I received an error from ASP, because the Jet engine does not know what to do with Replace.
So my question is how do I get this data to fill my adapater if it sometimes contains a dash, but I can't use the Replace function in the Access query? My current C# code is below.

I'm using a OleDbDataAdapter object to fetch certain data from a database and place it in a data set object. The code for this is presented below:
oleConn = new OleDbConnection(WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["PTDB-ConnectString"].ConnectionString);
oleConn.Open();
oleComm = new OleDbCommand("spGetPartRevisionFromSN @SerialNumber = " + SN, oleConn);
oleComm.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
ds = new DataSet();
da = new OleDbDataAdapter(oleComm);
da.Fill(ds); //<--OleDbException occurs here
My problem is that when the program reaches the Fill method of the data adapter, I receive an OleDbException with the error being "Incorrect syntax near 'SN' ", where SN is an alphanumeric serial number. I have a few SNs that I'm testing, the pattern I notice is that the method seems to run fine with an SN that begins with a letter, e.g. "J123456", but this exception gets thrown for every SN that begins with a number, e.g. "1ABCDEF". I'm not alterting the SNs, which are just strings, in any way and I've run the SELECT query, defined in the stored procedure, in SQL Server Management Studio with both kinds of SNs without a problem.

I have a .NET 4.0 console application that does a lot of reads from SQL Server 2008 using the OleDbDataAdapter object.I tried to improve performance by spreading the processing logic across four threads using Visual Studio 2010's Task Parallel Library. Sadly the multi-threaded version is three times slower than the original. Using VS2010's performance tools, I found thousands of thread contentions caused by the method OleDbDataAdapter.Fill() which populates a DataSet.This is puzzling as there are no static classes or variables involved that would result in the OleDbDataAdapter being shared by my threads. Also, four simultaneous connections just can't cause a hold up at the database level, right? The default connection pool size should be much larger than this.

I tried to query an excel file which contains a lot of customers' information but my problem is most of those don't have a specific column names. E.g. it's in the following format. (Excel File)
A B C
Info1 blur blur
Info2 blur blur
Info3 blur blur
So, when I query using SqlDbDataAdapter, in my DataTable, info1 blur blur becomes column header. e.g. it's in the following format. (DataTable)
Info1 blur blur
Info2 blur blur
Info3 blur blur
I been working on it so that it actually goes down one row and Change the column name in the DataTable into some appropiate name. Something like the following format.
Name1 Name2 Name 3
Info1 blur blur
Info2 blur blur
Info3 blur blur
Is there any way that I could work around it rather than actually going back to change the excel files ? Because I have like 1,000 excel files in that kinda format and seriously giving me headache now.

I need to pass some info to a 3rd party (for tracking) and they require I provide a checksum value which is an md5 hashed amalgamation of some of the other values. This is my code :
[Code]....
They keep rejecting my checksum. When I have tested for the following value passed in preConvert - 300265215063.79 I get :
My code gives : ED4463C84DE9D21B54C4E62F2D72CE
An online MD5 hash gives : 0ed40463c84de9d21b54c4e62f2d72ce
Which apart from the case, is exactly the same apart from missing 2 zeroes.

I have an ASP.NET application that relies on the Random class to generate a pseudo-random string. It uses the following code (this is part of a larger piece of sample code provided by Google for apps SSO):
public static class SamlUtility
{
private static Random random = new Random();
private static char[] charMapping = { 'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'f', 'g', 'h', 'i', 'j', 'k', 'l', 'm', 'n', 'o', 'p' };
public static string CreateId()
{
byte[] bytes = new byte[20]; // 160 bits
[Code]...
This normally works very well, but from time to time it starts generating a string of 'a'. From what I can tell from debugging, Random simply stops returning random numbers and instead fills bytes with the same value over and over. I've patched this by using a GUID instead, but I'm curious what happened in the original code. I'm assuming some form of entropy exhaustion, but I can't find any reference in the docs. Also, each time this has happened, performing iisreset restored the correct behavior.

I have a Gridview with some cells in numbers while in some cell they could be null without numbers. I need to modify it such that the numbers in the Gridview are in these formats:-
(a) If it is 12345.333 becomes 12,345
(b) If it is blank, I wish the cells to display 0
This is the code I am using to achieve (a), but when it comes to blank, it returns error (I believe my code below failed to provide blank cases but I dunno how. So what should be the code to do (b) above ?
For i As
Integer = 1
To N
e.Row.Cells(i).Text = String.Format("{0:#,##0}", Convert.ToDouble(e.Row.Cells(i).Text))Next

The GridView in ASP.NET 2.0 is trimming the leading spaces from data coming from a SQLServer database. I have yet to find a way to keep it from doing that. The data in this particular view is being edited to remove such spaces, but only upon editing the row can any leading spaces be seen, meaning, at present, each row will have to be touched. With 12,000+ rows, that's a little much.
What little I've found on Google has mainly be concerned with trimming leading spaces. Is there a way to force GridView to show the data exactly as it is in the database, leading spaces and all?

I have a formview which binds to a table where one of the fields is an integer zip-code field. I want to pad the zip with a leading zero in the edit template when the zip is something like "02134". How do I edit the bound data without "breaking" the two-way binding?
I wrote simple function to add the zero and return a string:
Public
Function padZIP(ByVal zip
As
Integer)
As
String
Dim tmpStr
As
String =
CType(zip,
String)
If tmpStr.Length = 4
Then tmpStr =
"0" & tmpStr
Return tmpStr
End
Function
and I can call it in the itemtemplate fine:
<asp:Label
ID="ZipLabel"
runat="server"
Text='<%# padZIP(container.dataitem("Zip")) %>'
Width="30"
/>
but, trying to do that in the edititemtemplate breaks the binding?

I have two textboxes and a CompareValidator attempting to ensure that TextBox_1 contains a date that comes on or before the one in TextBox_2. When one textbox contains a date in "MM/dd/yyyy" format, and the other uses "M/d/yyyy", and the only difference between the two is a leading zero in the "MM" part, my validator fails to recognize that the dates are equal.
I've solved the problem by using the same format for both, but I'm wondering what's going on.
(I'd post the code, but there are so many layers -- controls using inherited classes, etc. -- that it would be more than a bit difficult to make sense out of ...)

In the default ASP.NET MVC 3 project, layout & partial cshtml files start with an underscore (eg. _viewstart, _Layout, _LogOnPartial). Why? Does the framework give some special meaning to a cshtml file that begins with an underscore?

the default ASP.NET Forms Authentication cookie sets it's name as ".ASPXAUTH". Notice the first character is a period? Is there a particular reason for this? Like, does this have an impact on domain names or subdomains for the target domain.
Or is it purely some random thing an MS dev person came up with (maybe to help out the ordering of the cookies, when they were debugging or something .. as text with periods prolly get listed before other strings)?
