Make Parse Markup Tag Property As List?
Sep 3, 2010
Is there a way that I can extend asp.net to accept the markup
<c:MyControl runat="server" MyList="1,2,6,7,22" />
Where MyList is a List<int> or List<string> or even List<someEnum>?
So I want asp.net to parse automatically all lists (that can be parsed) generically.
I know I could take the way around it and make MyList a string, then parse that into a list, but then I just end up with more properties than I want tbh.

I've seen various controls in ASP.NET with "collections" of objects, which you can use markup to define. For example:
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
<Triggers>
<asp
/Triggers>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
In the above example, you can add any number of triggers, and they can be of any type that extends UpdatePanelTrigger. I'd like to do something similar, but with only a single item instead of a collection

I'm writing a custom ASP.NET webcontrol and would like it to have a collection of custom items which can also be specified in the XML markup. Something like this:
class MyControl: WebControl
{
public IList<MyItemType> MyItems { get; private set; }
}
And in the markup:
<asd:MyControl runat="server" id="mc1">
<MyItems>
<MyDerivedCustomItem asd="dsa"/>
<MyOtherDerivedCustomItem asd="dsa"/>
</MyItems>
</asd:MyControl>
How do I do this? I though this was all about implementing some interface on the collection or adding some special attributes to the property, but nothing I do seems to work.

I have a CheckBoxList in my page, with the DataTextField and DataValueField attributes set, is there an attribute that I can use to specify a property that indicates if it should be checked?
I'm hoping to just set the datasource, and not have to have any code behind to set the checked property. Possible?

I'm new to ASP.NET and can't figure out how to accomplish this...My code (that needs fixing):
<asp:HyperLink runat="server"
NavigateUrl="~/EditReport.aspx?featureId=<%= featureId %>" />
featureId gets defined as an integer in the backing code. I want href's like...
/EditReport.aspx?featureId=2224
...but instead I am getting...
/EditReport.aspx?featureId=<%= featureId %>

I have an ASCX that inherits from a WebControl that has a 'CustomConfiguration' property of type CollectionConfigurationItem. This configuration gets set elsewhere in the code, so by the time it gets to the ASCX it is set up to how I wish to use the data. At this point I'd like to render out another control using this configuration, like so:
<modules:DataModule runat="server" CustomConfiguration="<%# Model.CategoryListConfiguration %>" />
However, breaking into DataModule always results in 'CustomConfiguration' being null, which is the default value for the property. I've tried adding a Bindable attribute to the property but to no avail, and when I set an EventHandler for the DataBinding event on the DataModule it doesn't even get called.
How can I set this custom-class-typed property from the markup or, failing that what's the second-best method of getting this to work?

I have an asp.net repeater control with a series of asp:hyperlink's
<asp:HyperLink runat="server" ID="name" NavigationUrl="~/Pages/display.aspx?fileid={0}&user={1}" />
and then on the OnItemDataBound method:
fullname.NavigationUrl=string.Format(name.NavigationUrl, user.fileid, user.userid);
So that gives me a series of URLs in the repeater:
[URL]
OK, so with a simple proxy tool someone can replace either of the parameters with some OTHER number to get access to what they shouldn't see.
server-side validation and authentication aside, is there a better method other than passing parameters when trying to create a dynamic URL within a repeater?

Say I have a web site with a master page and an aspx page.In my ASPX page, I am pointing to my masterpage with the MasterType tag.<%@ MasterType VirtualPath="~/mymasterpage.master" %>Say, I've defined a label in the markup of my master page.If you look at the designer code, this label should be something like thisprotected global::System.Web.UI.WebControlIf I type in this "Master.label1", the complier will complain that the control is inaccessible due to the protection level" and rightly so, as label1 is automatically defined as "protected"

I created a UserControl and added a public DateTime property. I want to set this property in Markup (ie. <cc1:MyControl runat="server" id="MyControl1" DateTimeProp="1/1/2010" /> ) however I live in a place with a dd/mm/yyyy date format so it complains if I set something like "20/1/2010". Is there a way to set markup in my local datetime format or do I have to conform to "mm/dd/yyyy"?

Currently if you create an 'OrderLine' instance, you have to specify an 'Order' instance.
The question: how can I make ol.Order property optional (null in some cases)?

I have a simple ASP.NET MVC web application that uses NHibernate with FluentNHibernate's auto mapping feature for its data access. I have encountered a scenario in which I would like NHibernate to persist some classes as binary data.
public class User
{
// This field will be persisted
public virtual byte[] PortraitData { get; set; }
// This method will get me what I'm actually interested in
public virtual Image GetPortrait()
{
return SerializationHelper.Deserialize<Image>(PortraitData);
}
}
(I leave the implementation of the SerializationHelper class to the reader's imagination. It doesn't do anything complicated, just serializes and deserializes data into byte arrays and back.)

I have an object to hold some specific state information in my web application - I pass it back & forward between pages by making it a property of a basepage which works fine, but I lose it on postback.
Is there any way to persist this property without manually adding & reading it again from viewstate?

Is it possible to allow an administrator to write to a readonly profile property by redefining the profile property in a web.config file used for administrators pages?
I have a unique account number which must be assigned to each new user (using the default asp.net membership provider). After reading a couple of articles it seemed it would just be easier to define it as a profile property instead of creating a custom membership provider. When the user makes changes to their profile on a profile page I create, I want the value to be readonly. When an admin views the profile I actually want them to assign the value to the property in their page.

I have a main "index" view that has a drop down and a submit button. When a selection is made (CampaignId) and a submit button is pressed a list of items is displayed and filtered based on the selection from the drop down list.
I've added a partial view (on the right rail) of my site that lists a bunch of campaigns. when a link is pressed in that partial view a (CampaignId) is passed to my page and the same thing happends as if you would make a selection from the drop down. The issue is that the dropdown "Campaign Name" should be selected based on the selection from the partial view.

I'm trying to keep track of employees in my database. I have two tables, Employees and Departments. The Employees table contains a foreign key relationship with Departments through a column named DepartmentID.
Here's my entity:
[code]....
I have a page that contains a form to add an employee. I'm passing the entity to my view page, and calling <%: Html.EditorForModel() %>
The problem is that the view creates a textbox for the DepartmentID.
How can I force the view to display a dropdown for DepartmentID that contains all the Departments in my database as the dropdown's list items? Is there a way to do this by just adding a metadata attribute to the property in my entity?

I have a check-box-List which I bind to a master dataTable(DTA)... I have another dataTable (DTB) which has the values that needs to checked in the check-box-List... So I loop through all items in the check-box-list to see if it exists in the DTB and set checked = true for those items that exists. Now I want to show the checked items first in the Check-box-list box and the unchecked items below that. Is there any way I can do it... A similar solution for List-Box could also be helpful. A Javascript hint is welcome too.

I am using javascript to validate user input on my aspx page. I am easily able to validate textboxes and dropdown list for differenet scenarios.
Now, on one of my dropdown lists (for country), I need to check if it is an allowed country or not for a particular service. I have stored the valid country list in a static property. Is there a way to validate my dropdownlist selected value against that static property?
function validateService(source, args)
{
var country = document.getElementById('<%= ddDestCountry.ClientID %>');
var service = document.getElementById('<%= ddService.ClientID %>');
// Get allowed country list from my static class
var countryList = document.getElementById('<%= StaticProperties.EUCountryList %>');
if (service.value == "P")
{
// I want to do something like this
if (!countrylist.Contains(country.value))
{
args.IsValid = false;
}
else {
args.IsValid = true;
}
}
return;
}
Update(Additional Information): The static property is read-only so it cannot be tampered with from the page.
